Not sure the 'Pro' is needed for a pair of headphone unless their studio reference quality...

How many times does Apple have to go over this? They even made a comment at the last keynote. "Pro" means either for a professional or someone who appreciates and wants the top in technology that they have to offer.

If you really want these, just be patient. They will go down in price soon enough. You'll find them at Amazon and other retailers for ~30-40% in no time.

No, that's not how Beats are priced. Best hope is maybe $50 off during Black Friday or other occasional sale. They occasionally go on sale, but not at 40% off, they generally stay right at price Apple introduced them, e.g., Beats Studio 3's stay right around $349 on Amazon, Best Buy, etc., year round. Beats is number 1 by far in sales of premium headphones (over$200) category so Apple has no reason to clear them out, other than intro of new model. It's why Apple maintains high margins and makes most of the profits in the industries it participates in--make a high quality product that people want and keep your prices stable so people aren't waiting for a "sale."

Call it Pro and stick a hundred bucks on the price. The idiots will lap it up.

Just waiting for the iPod Socks to come out in an all new all-Pro design, for £79 each.

They really should’ve gone down the path of licensing the w1/h1 chips to other manufacturers instead of still releasing beats. But that’s none of my business as they say.

LOL. Troll on, but you should actually read the article before you comment. This has significant new hardware and features. In addition to that little feature called "noise cancelation,"

"Beats Solo Pro also have an evolved acoustic platform, including a refined driver. Two beam-forming microphones, an updated speech-detecting accelerometer, and the Apple-designed H1 chip combine for improved audio quality and enhanced voice recognition for hands-free "Hey Siri" functionality.

This is the starting price of Solo's since at least the wireless 2 variant. That's also similarly priced to competitors in the wireless on-ear market of similar quality.

Out of curiosity... why would they even entertain the idea of not releasing Beats?

Yessss. Great updates. If they're slightly more comfortable than the Solo3 I think we've got a winner.

I think Bose has been the dominant player in the headset w/ noise canceling market, at least that's what I see on airlines. It will be interesting to see if Beats can take a big chuck of market share away from Bose.

The over-ear variant will sell much better. Also, I think these should have been priced around the $250 range at max.

Yeah, to be fair 30-40% is a bit hyperbolic. 20%-30% is more accurate. Like the Beats Pro have already been reduced 20% and I'm anticipating another 10-15% around Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Putting them at the ~$175 I said I think they're worth (said that when they were introduced). The Solo 3 Wireless are already 30% off at BB and Amazon (they're going for $140, down from $200)

I think it's a pretty good bet the Solo Pro is going to hit $250 over the holidays and ~$220 by late spring/early summer.

I am well aware of Beats and how they sell. I have been one of the few advocates of Apple's purchase of Beats. Apple's MSRP really doesn't mean anything in the general market. Apple products are discounted by retailers all the time. Out of all the Apple products I've purchased, I've never bought anything at an Apple store or Apple online. Generally it's always cheaper elsewhere.

Which noise-canceling headphones are currently considered "best"?

Is it still Bose, Sony, or...?

I need a pair for when I travel. I hate hearing airplane noise and I want the best and most comfortable noise-canceling headphones in the $300-500 range.
