I think Bose has been the dominant player in the headset w/ noise canceling market, at least that's what I see on airlines. It will be interesting to see if Beats can take a big chuck of market share away from Bose.

These Suck.
the worst multi device management i have seen since 2009. and i switched from quietcomfort 2.

Is there a source/image backing this? I'm interested in learning more because I oft criticize Lightning. Thank you!

its93rc, I'm not smart enough to post a picture. But if you google usb c images you should be able to find a pictur easy enough. The receptacle (the part in the device) has a small tab. The connector on the cable is basically a sheath that goes around the tab. It is essentially the inverse of a lightening connector.

I'm sure it is great for transferring large amounts of data quickly. But how often are you doing that over a cable for a smartphone or a wearable device?

Does anyone know if you connect to a device with a lightning cable to the lightning port that the solo pro will decode uncompressed audio through the cable? (Apple lossless etc.)

I doubt it matters. Apple doesn't publish the specs for the speakers, so even if you had perfect audio quality, I'd be shocked if you could hear it.

Which noise-canceling headphones are currently considered "best"?

Is it still Bose, Sony, or...?

I need a pair for when I travel. I hate hearing airplane noise and I want the best and most comfortable noise-canceling headphones in the $300-500 range.

Sony should be coming out with an update soon, but the Sony WH-1000XM3, along with the new Bose 700 's and former top Bose QC35 are the top choices for best NC and comfort. Bose is slightly more comfortable, but not significantly so, and the newer one has better microphones for phone calls. Sony recently dethroned Bose for best NC, has a good more battery life and fast recharge, some cooler features, better sound (not that Bose is bad), USB-C (yeah). Bose is better syncing to both phone and laptop as with Sony you can't sync with two at same time.

You can pick up the Bose QC35 at Costco periodically for $269, everyday price of $299, so even though I would go with the Sony's, that's a tempting value. I'll let others way in on what they've found, but I've done a fair amount of research. I'm waiting a bit to see what Sony's response to Bose 700's and then I am updating to new phones.

As a Bose 700 owner, no idea what you are talking about. These are the best consumer-level headphones on the market as an overall package IMO. There are other good options of course offered by Sony and Sennheiser.

What sort of issues are you having? I have some very minor Bluetooth issues sometimes, mainly that sometimes, after playing from another device, my 700s will disconnect from my MacBook, and have to be reconnected. However, neither device forgets the other, so all this amounts to is clicking the Bluetooth icon at the top of my screen, clicking Bose700s, then Connect.

So, considering there is has never been a Bluetooth device that has absolutely no connection issues yet, these are doing pretty great.

Noise cancelling is top of the line, comfort is high and increases with wear, sound quality is flat and balanced just how I like it, and they are IMO the nicest looking headphones ever released (I know this point is very subjective, but a lot of people check them out when you walk by and multiple people have asked me what headphones they are just because they thought they looked cool; I have them in silver).

Unfold to power may be an exciting novelty for a week or two, but I’d rather have regular power button. Or at least add the power button alongside this feature.

you see folding and unfolding for many times will induce unnecessary wear to the hinge. By the end you may no longer able to turn on or off the headphone anymore due to damaged hinge. That’s absurd!

Plus I rarely fold my headphone, I hang it on open position and turn it off when I don’t use it. The only times I need to fold it is for traveling, but for anything else, power button is way more practical.

Okay, First of all, I agree, these headphones feel really premium. In terms of material and feel, like them more than the h9i's i tried for a month, which costed a bit more.
But i dont know how you are happy with these. literally googling about these headphones you can find so many different pages where people are complaining about the multi device management on these issues.
The reason is, there is no way to manually choose what device will output sound to the headphones. I always have them connected to my MBP and iphone. When i want to play from my iphone, its usually fine. But whenever i have to play from MBP, i have to turn off the device, and just hope it switches to my MBP. first of all this dosent happen like 50% of times, and i literally have to go and disconnect my iphone, which means i cannot even use the app to change anything on headphones, and secondly if i randomly pick up and unlock my iphone, it will stop mbp Audio. mind it not stop the song, just stop the audio output in headphones, and the song continues playing into the void.
Another case thats has happened not very often, but enough times to be mentioned here. I am playing music from my iphone, i stop the track and i play it again, and no sound comes on the headphones. I go check in the app and it says its streaming from my laptop. (at that point my laptop is literally in a sleep state in my bagpack).
The best resolution for this will be a manual button to change sources, but i will be happy with even like an option in app to change sources, better than nothing.
although if bose really wanted to, they can push a firmware update that allows you to remap either the assistant or NC toggle button to changing sources, or even add it as a double press/hold function.

I don't really know what to say other than that things like this don't really happen for me; maybe once out of 50 times I play music I'll have to fiddle with the app or headphones for a minute before getting it to play.

I can give you a tip though - I did have more issues before doing this - when you want to switch between your two paired devices, double tap the headset and stop playing audio first. Then, hit play on the other device you want to switch to. This almost always works fine for me.

Would I like a switch button? Sure, but this might fix your problem and has made the headphones work near flawlessly for me. It seems that when the currently connected device stops playing audio, the headset just accepts the next audio it hears from either paired device as the dominant one.
