As gimmicky and useless as it may be, I did find it fun the way it was shown during the keynote. Craig always makes these things fun. That alone would make me want to have this feature.

But I'm definitely not getting an iPhone X when it costs €1159. Even not for all the other great features it has. :p Especially given the fact I've got an iPhone 7 that runs iOS 11 incredibly well.

So... even the diehard Apple defenders see this as an incredibly lame offering, right? Not just this feature, the entire offering. He opens stating that this device will set the stage for the next 10 years? Jumping an entire model number just to add an irritating notch, face unlock that will likely go unused by many and then... a slower way of using emoji that only works when communicating with certain devices?

Is he just completely delusional or have they completely embraced the whole "Whatever we make, they will buy." mentality?

I WANT Apple to do well, I want them to innovate and smash the market with something that changes the game, otherwise Android devices will remain stagnant and happy with the lower and mid range of the market. But this may as well be a weirdo offering from Huawei with a bigger price tag.

This is so STUPID. Last year it was the stupid scribbling feature that I'm still accidentally selecting half the time I want to send a photo. Messages is getting so heavy with all these junk features, just like music, just like everything else they seem to be doing.

While I won't ever use this, just as many other people here have pointed out, I can totally see how this is an attractive feature to many people. Snapchat is hugely popular because of their face recognition tool. Then again, those kind of people won't probably buy a new phone just for this feature...

None of you get this. It is courageous of Apple to create personalized talking poop and feature it in the pitch for a $1000 plus phone. I can see the vision and have drank the kool-aid.

OK seriously, I was laughing my ass off when I saw them present this. Dumbest thing I've seen in a long time.

Animoji machine for a lot of money, with #yougotnotched across your apps and movies.

The best part of this presentation: Remembering Steve.

Agreed. RE: Notches. I would doubt content would be formatted so that the Notch would cut into content. Rather the edge of the content would just end near the notch and the notches themselves will likely just go black and fade into the background. They'd have to do it that way right? They just found a creative use for the notches on the home screen (and maybe some apps will use it too) when not watching rectangular content.

Will access to this tech be enabled for third party developers?

It would be cool if it did something remotely useful.

I don't care for animoji:s but it will be cool to be able to express your expression on game characters, especially with AR, maybe even scan your own face onto the game character and then use it like a realtime ingame personalised muppet, extra nice in multiplayer games while interacting with other players

Samsung adds the functionality of a stylus for their one up flagship, Apple adds animated poop. That says lots of each company. In Apple's case, it's a lot of poop. Not a good sign for future products.

I really want the X model, but I don't think I will ever be using this feature.

Can someone tell me the distinct features missing from 8 Plus and X models?
Screen and emoji thingy aside? 200$ must get something more right?

I could be wrong but the main differences between the 8 and X are:

OLED display
Dual camera/portrait mode in an iPhone size you don't need a fanny pack to carry
Stabilization for dual cameras
Portrait mode via front facing camera for better selfies
Face mapping with the FaceID sensors for better Snapchat masks? (and the previously mentioned anmojis)

I think that's all?

I'm sure others will point out anything I've missed.
