Ok. Sometimes there is only ONE track I want but I need to buy the entire album.
Now we have iTunes Store. You can just buy THAT track, problem solved.
And as others says, listening music is an activity Everyone can do using their own ways, either purchasing, renting, or just listening to broadcast.
BTW, I am a big fan of music. Even my iPhone was stolen, I would use an iPod to continue listening to my music collection. I spend over 2 hrs per day on music. But, I am not a lover of renting music, because I know I cannot control when publisher pulls the plug and remove the music you like.
Congratulations. You have the best option to you. And I have the best option for me. This is our colourful life, right? :)

And thats fine, I agree with you - i'm not at all shunning the people who say they'd rather buy than steam music - you're 100% right if thats what you prefer to do.

I'm just taking objection with someone who says they're really into music but thinks $10 a month is a lot to pay for it (and not value for money).

Agree completely with this.

I hate to break it to you mate, but I really don't think they do.

I hate to break it to you mate, but not everybody thinks like you. Why is it that millennials think everyone shares their usage case?

I have about 1000 songs in my library, mostly CD rips from over 10 years ago. I add 1-2 songs per month these days. I could go on a long rant about how music today is so low quality and disposable nobody wants to listen to the same song for 6 months. But suffice to say, I'd rather pay $1-2/month to buy a copy than $5-10/month to rent it.

"I say old chap,, this is quite fetching"
Looks like it's starting to become live now from UK as I can select it but when I go back to subscriptions it just shows as individual yet the Australian page says you should be redirected to the Unidays login page for verification which doesn't happen. I'm doing it on an iPhone at the moment haven't tried in iTunes on pic yet

Why do you think that anyone who doesn't share your usage case must be a millennial?

You could go on a rant about the low quality of music today, but you'd run the risk of sounding like a grumpy old music snob. :p

I'd be inclined to agree with Dannys1 - so does that make me a millennial or someone in my 40s?

Getting exactly the same via iTunes on my mac - clicking the Student link in my iTunes > Account Info > Subscriptions > Apple Music > Edit. The link opens up Safari but resolves to the iTunes download page. Hopefully get resolved in the very near future.

And good to see someone else from Oop North on here :)

Great news IMO. I thought £10 wasn't a terrible price so £5 is fantastic value for me.

Can see the option on both iTunes and iPhone but just not taking me anywhere when I click it on either yet.

Really? Where are you seeing it and what does it look like? Thanks!

This is a screenshot from the Danish Apple Music subscription page. The blue link basically says "validation needed". When pressed nothing really happens - yet ;)

Under Subscriptions on iOS click the picture in the top left in music and select Apple ID then there is an option for subscriptions.
[doublepost=1462561392][/doublepost]The links are now working and taking you to the Unidays website for verification. Sadly my institution is illegible!!! :-(

I still don't even see this option

4.99 is more reasonable pricing for streaming music. $9.99 is a bit steep in the days of Netflix being the same price for much "grander" content. IMO at least.
I mean a lot more production value goes into putting together movies and TV shows than music and the pricing should reflect that in the "not owning" world.

You are forgetting two things:

1) $10 is industry standard - set by labels
2) Netflix is a limited library of content that changes from time to time as Netflix drops licensing for some content while signing others. Music streaming services, by and large, hold most of the music released, and these do not frequently change like Netflix does.

looks like not available for US yet?

I have it up on my end, but i think i am encountering a bug when I try to sign up. It keeps telling me to enable Show Apple Music in the preferences, when it already is, and doesn't go past that every time.

It has the Student Membership listed under my managed services, but says verification required, and doesn't take me anywhere, and when i try to do it on my iPhone from unidays, it comes up short as well.
