The Mac Mini is sold at Best Buy in a half-hearted way. If you think Wal*Mart is so bad, then perhaps you should read www.bestbuysux.com some time.

As for kiosks, Dell has done that for at least two years.

Hahaha. Best Buy vs. Wally world? :D No contest. We've all gone through this before on another thread a few months back. Go find it. BB doesn't have anything on big Wally.

we need a bluetooth, rechargeable dock version like the Logitech MX900. Unless the battery life will be as long as my wireless apple keyboard (2 months usage, still 4/5 battery life :D)
Bluetooth is eroding our civil liberties and corrupting children's values.

Its a valid point that new users might be a little confused with 2 button mice. But considering that at this point that basically means 3 year olds, I don't know if its necessarily relevant.
My mom can't handle a two button mouse and she works in the high tech industry.

Would CompUSA have it by chance yet? *I don't like CompUSA, but that's all that's here. In the State.

I'll buy one.

Wish that it was compatible with panther for customization purposes though, it seems kind of silly that you couldn't customize it with ANY version of OSX.

But then again, Apple needs more reasons for us to pay for a Tiger Upgrade ;)

Bingo! I'm surprised Apple isn't offering a Combo deal on buying Tiger + Mighty Mouse together! ;)

I doubt it... Fry's didn't have it and neither did Apple Campus' own, Company Store. I just went and checked-- nada.

 No Bluetooth????

Sorry it might be a multi button mouse but with usb connection it isn't that mighty.

I'll wait until they have a BT version thanks.

I got mine and so far I don't like it. I'd say about 50% of the time the mouse does not register any right clicks. If I right click on the desktop, it usually takes 2-5 time before it works as a right click. I'll most likely return it tomorrow.

Interesting, thanks for providing us with your experience. So far all we've heard is good feedback, so it's nice to balance things out with some criticisms as well. :)

Why is everyone going crazy about this mouse not being bluetooth? I for one am *very* happy that its a wired mouse instead of cordless. I can't stand all the incompatibilities of wireless, not to mention the wasted money and negative environmental effects of having to constantly change batteries.

Its not like that thin little cord is going to kill you.
because you have an emac and I have a powerbook.

that's why.

Is this only available in Apple Stores? If so, I'm disappointed in New Mexico, as there are no Apple Stores here, Versus Dallas where I came from.

Physically, yes, is sounds like they're only available in Apple Stores for now. You could always order on online though.

I'll wait until they have a BT version as well so I can buy the corded version for less $$$. ;) I just don't have a need for a cordless mouse (I use a desktop not a laptop, don't want to worry about batteries, interference, not as good responsiveness as corded mouses, etc.) so for me this version is fine - I completely understand there are many of you out there though that need your BT mouse. :) Patience, Apple will release one, most likely at MWSF.

Well, without knowing your mom or what she actually does in the high tech industry(an accountant could be in the high tech industry, but the work is hardly high tech), its hard to know what the story is. But assuming she is reasonably intelligent, with decent motor and cognitive skills, its probably because she can't be bothered or has no interest in becoming proficient with multi-button mice. Its probably not because the concept of 2-buttons on a mouse makes her head hurt.

An example would be cell phones and text messaging. If your under 20yo, your probably pretty good at it. Fast and know all the tricks. Its second nature. An older person, on the other hand, might simply learn enough to get by, if at all, and never feel that comfortable doing it. Its not because the technology is so difficult, its because of a lack of interest to learn. Add in the fact that as one ages, learning new things, like new motor patterns, can be difficult.

2 button mice are the standard. Simple as that. At most 5% of personal computer users are unfamiliar with a multibutton mouse. Basically Mac users. And its less than that since many mac users have multibutton mice and/or pc's. There are people that have problems with multibutton mice, but its not the norm.

Ha! Just yesterday I was complaining that I needed a better mouse and then I come to MacRumors and see a 600+ post thread on Apple's new mouse. You gotta give it to them, the design has Apple written all over it.
However, in a way, the design seems to be only an excuse for saying that it isn't a two-button mouse. They had to think of a way to actually make a one button thing work like a two button mouse, and of course, they pulled it off. Macs having a one-button mouse suddenly doesn't make sense anymore. The reason for that was always the simplicity. As far as I can tell, the mighty mouse is a lot more complex than the cheapest two-button mouse I've ever used on a PC.

Makes you wonder if future laptops will probably have a SINGLE-touch-sensitive-button that detects a LMB click and a RMB click.

i got the BT mouse when the SF Apple open as part of the Grab Bag, since then i haven't used the corded mouse, and today is the day when i will leave my BT mouse in the Mighty Mouse box, i won't be seeing it for a long time. I miss the lightness of the corded mouse. Is ture, IMO, the BT mouse is like a hand-held TANK.

I think hell froze over once Apple started to port for Windows (itunes) and making ipods to work on PCs, oh, and jumping ship to Intel.....I think hell is defrosting at this point...and pigs have started to not only fly but to also started flight charter.....

QuickTime was on Windows long before the iTunes port...

IIRC Jobs "officially" announced hell freezing over :)D) when iTunes was announced for Windows.

THANK THE LORD!!!!!! but like everyone is saying, no bluetooth...i bet it will arrive in the short future depending on how this one sells...i just hate the scroll ball cause it gets **** stuck in it and never works that great after 6 months...but atleast they are on the right track for the multibutton mouses!

I understand how it works and that it still physically "clicks". My point is why bother with this gimmicky touch sensitive technology to determine which finger is applying more pressure during the click? There is no practical purpose to doing that. It is much simpler, less expensive and simply more intuitive to have a second, independent button that clicks on its own. I haven't noticed anyone crying out "Dear god, don't have a second physical button with a smooth line differentiating the two buttons!"

I truly do believe that this is just Apple's way of skirting the fact that for years they were ignoring a large segment of their user base that would have liked an Apple branded two/multi-button mouse. This new "Mighty Mouse" is a way for them to avoid having to admit such things. They can say, "Well traditional two button mice were problematic and they weren't really what our users wanted, but now that we have this new unnecessary and gimmicky technology to mimic a two button mouse - our type of multi-button mice are acceptable."

You don't have to agree with my belief for why Apple incorporated the touch sensitive technology, but I do understand how this new mouse works and I think the technology they've included in it is unnecessary and is simply done to try to save face. I also think that due to the inclusion of this touch sensitive functionality a wireless flavor of this mouse will be more difficult because there is less room for the transmitter and batteries and also because the touch sensors will drain the battery more quickly. I just don't understand the design decision. There are definitely drawbacks to using the touch sensitive design, but I don't see the benefit. I am open to hear points on why this is better than another physical button - anyone?
A gimmick to save face? I think you're right on.

So Apple update BT in their computers to version 2.0, even the iBooks and mini's last week and this week they release a usb mouse

I wonder how many of the BT nay-sayers here will complain when the BT version of this mouse is released

You mean, you never want to be able to use your mouse while in the next room??

What good is using my mouse while I'm in the next room while I can't see the screen and wouldn't know what the heck I was doing.

I'd like to test drive before I buy, but color me intruiged!

Hopefully my Apple store(s) will have one hooked up when I go in to give it a shot, the no bluetooth thing really doesn't phase me, and I am using a BT KB/Mouse right now...I have no major problem switching to a corded one.

Well i also thought that this was a bummer, but then i did some test, and tried to see what i normally do when i right click, and to my amazement i automatically lift my left finger to do a right...it is as if this mouse was made for me "runs out to buy one" :D :D

You know what, I do the same thing. you know that has to be something common in most people and that is why Apple did the mouse that way. Genius pure genius.

There goes fifty bucks of my money.

Just in case anyone hasn't said it yet......

WHERE'S THE BLUETOOTH VERSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
