I was going to go to the apple store tomorrow (I am one of the lucky ones that live 15 minutes from an Apple Retail establishment) to pick up the bluetooth mouse. How odd is it that this was announced today??? Anyway -- now I am confused. Do I go mighty or do i go wireless? Does the wireless mouse have functioning side buttons? - although i have been an avid mac user for 4 years i have never been in the market for a mouse - making this announcement even more curiously timed. Do I take advantage of the new features or go cordless. Decisions, Decisions.

Dan725,

I have used the bluetooth Apple mouse extensively, and it is far from being a favorite. The bluetooth capabilities work flawlessly, but the shape and feel of the mouse is not something I appreciate it. Although the same ship, the corded Apple Pro Mouse I find a bit better, since it is lighter. I suspect the Mighty Mouse will also be lighter than the bluetooth mouse.

Finally, with the features of the Mighty Mouse, I think it is the way to go, unless you need the bluetooth capabilities. The scroll ball, and the right clicking is something that can save you a lot of time. I'm thrilled that I will finally be able to use an Apple mouse 100-percent of the time. Bye-bye PC mouse.

My first impression of seeing these new muose was like WOW. Yeah, you heard me right. The new design or rahter luck of it means that there is not much of difference on how the mouse feels in the hand and that to many Apple mouse users is a good thing to know. Not every one has to like it though, remeber it is "different."

If some of you don't like this new mouse, there is a big chance that you didn't like design of the single button mouse, so you loose or gain nothing. What is the problem? You still have your Logitech, Microsoft etc. mice.

Yea I tried the mouse, it's pretty frickin' sweet. My only problem is that you have to lift up your left finger for a click to register as a right click, otherwise it registers as a left click. That scrollwheel is dope (it's actually a little rubber ball!). Like Apple said, there is actually only one button, the actions simple very with where you click that one button. Even the scroll ball is not its own button!

I just placed my order online for Mighty Mouse, I can't wait til it arrives.

I was going to go to the Apple Store which is 45 min. away, but I called twice before I went, the first time they still had stock, and I called right before I left, and they told me they ran out. Oh well, good thing I didn't waste a trip.

Well I expect a pro BT version sometime soon. I figure maybe a few weeks or Paris just to avoid MM buyers returning their mice to get the pro version.

Maybe i'm just weird, but i lift my left finger when i use right click on PCs. this mouse is cool anyways, playing with it for since 11 this morning.

BT continued

While we're all getting sweaty over Bluetooth, and I'm sure Apple is hanging on our every word, I want to mention that I would pay whatever they want for a basic Bluetooth trackball! No such thing exists (there might be one, but it's weird). Doesn't seem like Logitech is going to step up to the plate with the BT Trackman Wheel -- a shame, and strange, because I don't think I'm the only one.

But hey -- nice to see something new to keep the fires of gadget lust alive.

I bet Steve isn't completely sold on the idea of a two button mouse.

I'd have thought if he was it'd be a big enough deal (700+ posts in 12hrs) that it would have been one-more-thing at a major Apple event.

I can see it now Steve's talking about some new bland feature and goes to the on stage desktop to show it off he nonchalantly says and "you scroll diagonally here and right click"....long pause as the audience collectively draw their breath...and back to Steve.."oh yes I forgot to mention one more thing...."

I guess we'll see him using one in Paris only if it's a sales success.

So originally shock, disbelief, etc. - back at say page 10 of this thread when I first saw this unexpected announcement this morning. Now that the disbelief and shock has worn off, my view of the whole thing has changed a bit.

Now it's a bit more about the actual product and that is more of a flat response. I look next to my keyboard and there is a $20 optical logitech 2 button mouse with a scroll wheel that works just great and that I've had for years now. I certainly don't need a two-button mouse. Got one. Ergonomic too. The asthetics are the driver here b/c as a product this is like someone telling me that you can now buy a PORTABLE CD player! To which my response would be "thanks man, I got one of those back before 90210 was on" [theme now getting stuck in your head]. But even the asthetics are a little flat for me. Looks a little like something Kensington might come up with.

Thats the wierdest design i have ever seen, i cant imagine using a touch sensitive mouse, i mean, i never lift my fingers to click i just press down. I'm interested as to how well it works.

On another note having touch sensors and a built in speaker dosent sound to wireless friendly, unless you want to change the batterys every day of course :p

Built-in speaker? What? Where? Am I missing something?

I got mine and so far I don't like it. I'd say about 50% of the time the mouse does not register any right clicks. If I right click on the desktop, it usually takes 2-5 time before it works as a right click. I'll most likely return it tomorrow.

That's probably because you must lift your left finger off the mouse or you can't right-click. A surprising number of people seem to find that they always do that anyway! I don't think I do--and it sounds like you don't. So that's something people should test before buying I'd say.

You'll have to try the mouse out in person to see how the motions work.
Agreed, I did mention in my initial post that I plan on trying it out next time I stop by the local Apple Store.

Many on this board told me to try out the Apple BT mouse when I first got my Mac Mini and that I would get used to the one-button mouse with OS X and learn to appreciate it more than multi-button mice. I used it on my Mac for two months solid and while I did become somewhat adjusted to it and it didn't seem quite as ackward as I thought, I never stopped missing the scroll wheel. Also while Ctrl-Clicking got me by it never felt as natural for me. Perhaps, if I were born and raised on one-button mice I wouldn't feel ilke I was missing something.

That's a bit off topic, but my point is that I was skeptical before spending a lot of time with my first Apple mouse experience and I left that experience even more skeptical. When rumors were flying about an Apple multi-button mouse I was very excited. All I wanted was a traditional two (or better yet, multi) button mouse with a scroll wheel that had BT as well. The Mighty Mouse, while seemingly innovative, disappoints me due to the lack of BT and I am very skeptical about having the touch-sensitive second mouse button. But I will give it a hands-on test in the near future. I am open-minded, just doubtful.

I did think of one clear advantage to the touch-sensitive buttons - you can configure it as a one or a two button mouse. This could very useful if you liked to switch between the two or if you had multiple users on your Mac and you could configure that setting based on the user account.

Interesting - I was just observing that my fingers stay planted on my mouse as well and I simply press down. To lift up the finger feels odd. I wonder if the need to lift a finger can be overcome in the software controls as a preference sort of default or if there's no fix.

Functionality is the watchword there. That thing looks like a bowling ball escaped from the pro shop and took off in a bumper car.
No disagreement with that. But I would still be interested in it once it's released--it might be easier to use than it looks. Somewhat similar to an Apple mouse, it "clicks" by tilting it down and either to the left or right--there are no buttons to depress.

There's no fix, unless you put the secondary click somewhere else, like the squeez on the side or the center click. Regarless you will have to lift your left finger or any finger to excute another click. (One Click At a Time)

Just got mine from the Apple Store. Dude, this thing is awesome. It feels very intuitive to use. I'm totally impressed. This track ball thing is amazing. And bringing up your widgets by pressing it is truly fun. Now....I'm just going to give it a test-run in Star Wars Battlefront. Woo-hoo!
