OMG! So many posts... I can't possibly read them all before posting, so I apologize if I'm rambling here.

Could this mean Apple will also release a Mighty Keyboard? With an upper/lower row(s) of keys to control OS X (one for mail, one for safari, a calculator, startup disk panel, etc.). A key for Dashboard is a given. Of course, we already have several ways of doing all this and it is pretty convenient the way it is right now. But one additional way is always good. Dare I say: the return of the power key that allows force-restarts, force-shutdowns and simple restarts/shutdowns/boot?

Seriously, a card-reader would be nice, providing web sites would upgrade their merchant software to be compatible with card-swiping quickly enough.

Dude dude dude :)! Repeat after me - Less IS more....

Simplicity always wins

Well, you might get what you want soon--DVForge is coming out with The Ball sometime soon--a bluetooth trackball.

The Mouse BT was a cheap feeling piece of trash and there is no way that I would pay $89 for a BT trackball from DV Forge.

That mouse skipped all over the place and never once felt like it was made in a modern facility. Poor quality for sure.

On another note, do we really have 31 pages of posts on a freakin' mouse?

I would like to see a BT version, with separate touch sensing buttons, with a mini USB connection to charge it, allowing one to use it while its charging.

OK I've read through all the posts and understand how this new mouse works and here is my take:

This new mouse is *gay* (not that there is anything wrong with that)

Give me a quality logitech or microsoft kicka$$ mouse for less then $50 any day.

The $15 Optical "coda" mouse I'm using with my laptop is just as functional. And it's very comfortable. And the blue optical light illuminates the entire translucent mouse (very cool effect.)

Apple is taking the "think different." thing too far. It used to be about simplicty and elegant minimalistic design (and I mean that more deeply then just simply form).

This mouse is anything but form-following-function. Apple has been headed in the wrong direction for awhile with it's hardware and this new mouse is no exception.

why the white indented apple logo

So why exactly did apple make the logo white, and indented?

Won't dust and dirt collect in the edges of the logo. Having a white logo mixed with the slightly "cheep" white looking plastic makes this mouse look like some crapy rip off mouse worth $15.

This is just a surprising design path when compared to the direction they have been going in lately. I hope that the choice to use the thin plain plastic is because it was needed in order for the touch-sensative technology to work and not because Apple is starting to get cheep on the materials they use.

This mouse looks like something that Sony would try to make when copying Apple. hmmmmm interesting.

placed an order already as soon as I saw the damn thing. Thought it might be a revolution. Sort of regretting the order. Well Will post what I think of it in a few days, when it arrives in the post.

it definitely needs a card reader

And not just the standard 80-column cards, but the new 96-column high-density punched cards as well (20% more storage in the same form factor for the same price !! w00t !!)

Apple have probably been inundated with angry letters ever since they dropped that feature. Its return was long overdue.

I'll betcha that the sensors are really, really ugly so clear had to go.

ipod interface

Apologies if someone has made this comment already...

I imagine that there is a possible hidden function in this mouse. That if you were to move your finger around the scroll button that it may be similar to an iPod interface??? Could be applied to something?

I think it will be just fine. Besides, $50 US barely buys a full tank of petrol anymore. It's not really alot of money.

My question is, do you guys think the next-gen of laptops will have two buttons?
I have a thought on this. You know how you can tap on the trackpad to click? And you can drag with two fingers to scroll? OK, how about for a right click, you have two fingers on the pad, and tap one finger while keeping the other one down on the pad? Seems a natural extension.

How long do i have to wait for BT?

I think Apple's Mighty Mouse is great product

but can someone give me educated guess, when a Mighty Mouse BT

will come out, a week, mouth, year....???

That's right, but if he says he regrets the order, it probably means he's on a tight budget...

I've got friends who would be very sad investing their yearly mouse budget in something they would regret...

I personnally like it but will not buy one simply because I don't need a new mouse right now and there's nothing revolutionary here... The horizontal scrolling is nice, but far from being a must-have. Maybe when the price will drop significantly and/or they add a couple laser beams for precision (or to turn it into some kind of PC user killing machine with a "laser gun" feature). Until then.

Eh... Sure! Seems... Nice!

Please forgive me for starting half of my posts (if not more) with "Eh..."

Americans expect canadians to speak that way ;) Wow... That's a good excuse.

What's sad is to have a yearly mouse budget.
I haven't bought a mouse since PC days when they were always breaking down. My Mighty Mouse is on the FedEx truck. And i'm proud i can be a pioneer in this new multi button era the Mac has finally entered into.

It's a step in the right direction. At least they didn't make a new one button mouse. Ok Mighty Mouse isn't Bluetooth, but that's besides the fact. It's obviously inevitable that they witll make a BT series, but i'm sure they just want to test this out and move on from there.

Mighty Mouse is here to save the day!
(can't wait to play with that little nipple)

Using mine right now with my iBook (the trackpad was getting annoying) and it rocks. Well worth the money

Ok, you got me; I don't know many people who actually have a yearly mouse budget; I meant their 3-5 years mouse budget. Communication is a very delicate and fragile thing...

Hmm, reasons for moving up north to ANYWHERE in Canada:

1) Got a friend in Montreal
2) There's no Dubba
3) They've got the iTMS!!!!
Good job Apple!! Time to move up north.

Oh yeah, we've had the iTMS for a while now, and we get better song prices: 0.99$ CAD (which means $0.82 USD). :D

Amazing!

I was worried about that I need to lift my left finger to do right-clicking. But guess what, I tried right-clicking using my normal mouse and found that I actually DO LIFT my left finger when doing right-clicking! This is totally subconscious!

How amazing that those guys in Apple actually found this and made use of it!

I second.

Am I the only person who thinks that Apple is putting aesthetics (the seamless look) ahead of functionality?

I agree, and the more I think about it, the more wholeheartedly I agree. Personally, I think a mouse should have buttons. Buttons, darn it. Those little panels that click when you mash on them. Even the Apple Pro mouse has never appealed to me.

Anyway...

I'm not really against an Apple-branded two-button, scrolling mouse. It'll be an unnecessary and sad end of an era if they all become "Mighty" Mice, but enh. Not worth getting upset over.

And wireless mice suck.

Don't regret the purchase

To all those who have ordered the Mighty Mouse and are now regretting the decision based on the haters in this thread, I say relax and enjoy!

The negative feedback in this thread is a sure sign that this product will rock the house. Why? Well based purely on the history of negative feedback on mecrumors threads. Have a look at the threads on the following product announcements:
New iMac
iMac G5
iPod
iPod Mini
iTunes Music Store

Need I say any more? These are some of apple's flaship products over the last 3-4 years, and have been met on these forums with a large amount of dissapointment, and even abuse.

Product announcements that received generally positive feedback:
Airport Express
Powerbooks
PowerMac G5

....starting to get the picture?

A two button mouse? How can you tell??

Ok, so suppose you're not an experienced Mac user and you sit down in front of an iMac equiped with mighty mouse to do whatever. How is this person supposed to know that this is in fact a two button mouse? It doesn't look like one.

Not that I care about non-mac users...but I'm just saying, they're gonna start clicking and it's gonna start doing things that they've never seen before and they're gonna be pretty annoyed and confused.

I'm buying it tomorrow!
