Douglas Engelbart would be proud.
I saw your mention of Engelbart yesterday. It's funny that he imagined mice would have half a dozen or more buttons, and used 3 on his original mouse (limited by technical constraints), yet so far in the 21st century only "expert users" have more than 2 or 3.

Another reason not go with blue tooth is that the mouse kicks in after the inital startup process has already begun so if you want to eject a disk holding down the mouse with the blue tooth, it would not work.

That's flat out not true. Today I used an Apple Wireless Mouse to eject a DVD out of a PowerBook, so I'm absolutely sure that it works.

:D :D :D i'm sure it was easy for you... click the eject icon or drag the DVD to the trash can LOL, using the wireless mouse of-course.

Ah, that cracked me up. Ok, so, I RESTARTED a PowerBook, the mouse was already paired up with it, and the mouse was on. During start up, I held the mouse button down (the ONLY mouse button) and the DVD popped out.

Is that better? ;) :D

Coordinated silliness by a few members. One discussion of it starts here (edit: also here). No further discussion of it here in a news thread, please.

Does anybody else think that "Mighty Mouse" is the least apple-esque sounding name they could have chosen?

What would you have preferred?? iMouse?? ;) I like the name, it's better than another "i" anything.

Poor name

Mighty Mouse really is a pretty poor name though. iMouse was taken I believe, but something closer to "iPod" would have helped sell this to Windows users.

The thing with this mouse is that it could get more Windows users using Apple products. First they get the iPod. Then a Mighty Mouse - it matches the iPod. Hmmm, this shiny Apple keyboard might look good to go with my iPod and Mighty Mouse. I'll take one. Well, now I might as well get a Mac mini to go with the keyboard and mouse. And what about my screen - it doesn't match. Better get an Apple display.

Before you know it, a new Mac user.

Mighty Mouse is an affectionate and humourous name, and I like it too. I agree - the "i" thing is kinda stale and tiresome now.

My own MM has left the Fedex facility in Memphis (home of Elvis and the Ancient Greeks!) and it will delivered tomorrow morning. Might leave work early. Y'know, summer hours and all.

Looks the same size to me. Pity Apple didn't make their logo more prominent.

edit: BTW, on the topic of logos what is that I see on your PowerBook.

Intel Inside.... Not yet!! :D

I'm glad someone caught my reference - and I'm not surprised it was you. ;)

Yes, it's funny how inventions develop and change over time. I find it fascinating to read about inventors' initial concepts, assumptions and thoughts, and see how they transform and adapt over time. Sometimes the idea changes so much it ends up being something quite different than what was initially conceived!

Another fascinating individual along these lines was Tesla. If you are not familiar with his history, I strongly recommend a thorough research session - I find him incredibly intriguing.

ridiculous isn't it? :D :D

You know, I thought the same thing when i started reading Amazon reviews of televisions (while researching for a new one.) More than half of the review seemed to be about the remote controls. I thought, "well that's just silly!"

But, you know, it's true. The remote is a key feature as to how much you enjoy the television! A bad remote can really hamper the experience.

Same goes for buying a car. Buying my first new car 6 years ago, I hadn't really thought about it until I test-drove a car whose speedometer was way too small and off to the side. I realized that the entire car can be perfect, but I'm going to spend most of my time fighting this gosh dern speedometer! And so I ended up finding a car with a nice big speedometer in the center - right in my eyesight - with 60mph at the top. Poyfect!

A mouse is just as important! (Why, oh why did I only buy one of those black beauties?) :)

You fool! Don't you understand the significance of this??

Now Mac users can masturbate with one hand while simultaneously downloading porn with the other.

At least Apple will find a way to make it look cool.

No doubt - they'll probably find some cool way to laser etch it into the PowerBook or make it holographic or something...

Oh, I think we'll be seeing in Intel PowerBook before August 2007. Are you a betting man?

do you guys think a bluetooth one will be released soon?

Probably not until MWSF would be my guess.
