Hmmm, i'll have to try it out then, and thanks especialy for telling me you can't really "left click" and "right click" at the same time, which is essential for all us WoW players out there. Maybe i can make the squeeze button(s) my walk button. ^^

Mouse button 4 is the default auto run for wow. But not being able to right and left click is a huge problem for me!

Lets hope this means left click on iBook and powerbooks

Halo for Mac was released pretty late, and Doom3 runs like crap. For every Mac-game there are propably 50 PC-games.

Gaming is one of the only things holding the Mac back from becoming a consumer blockbuster, Apple really need to sort it out somehow, and fast.

New mouse looks awesome, but even better is that it's not as ridiculously expensive as Apple if famous for, so it's MINE.

Well... there are up-and-coming standards that are far superior to Bluetooth. I wouldn't expect Bluetooth to be the de-facto standard for more than another few years.

In 10 years there will be operating-systems far superior to OS X. Face it: OS X is dying!

Are there better standards in the works? Sure! But fact is that Bluetooth is available RIGHT NOW and it's up & running. And Bluetooth is not standing still either. And there's a long way from being a "standard" in to actually being something that is available and used. And there's even longer way from being available in to being as widespread as Bluetooth is.

Why is everyone going crazy about this mouse not being bluetooth? I for one am *very* happy that its a wired mouse instead of cordless. I can't stand all the incompatibilities of wireless, not to mention the wasted money and negative environmental effects of having to constantly change batteries.

I have a Logitec wireless optical mouse (was it MX900?). It's rechargable, so there's no battery-replacing involved. And the same exact mouse works on OS X, W2K and Linux. Incompatible? I don't think so

Its not like that thin little cord is going to kill you.

It gets stuck and it's inconvenient to use. Any mouse that I will buy needs to be

a) optical
b) wireless

Lose one of those, and you will lose my money.

I've never tried a BT mouse, but have heard this comment from others as well - I'm curious to hear if other people have experienced this as well. How about Pro users? Do they prefer to use corded or cordless mouses, or does it matter?

I'm quite happy with my MX510 for now, but this Mighty Mouse is pretty sweet. :)

I have Logitech MX900 (IIRC). And I haven't seen any lag. And I have used it on fast-paces FPS-games, among other things. It's not bluetooth, granted, but it sure is wireless.

Bluetooth this, Bluetooth that.....

Does this software enable two-fingered scrolling on last-gen 'Books?

Damn...ordered mine on Tuesday, said it would ship out Wednesday. Now it says it'll ship out on the 10th
Bummer!

I'm glad that I could get one at the Tokyo Apple store.

However, I understand your disappointment. After riding 2 hours on 4 different trains, I was very excited to see the lady at the entrance with a MM. I asked where can I pick one up. She apologetically said I'm sorry but they are all sold out. Needless to say, I was bummed.

So my wife and I decided to look around the store for some other things. About 20 minutes later, the same lady found me and said they had just gotten some more in and pointed over to where they were handing them out.

So I feel lucky.

On the bad note, the MM failed the wife (non-technofile) test tonight. She tried using it and it would not work for her. I just discovered that she uses the mouse crosswise -- she has small hands. With the pro mouse it is not problem. However, with the MM she only gets right clicks. Kinda funny.

This weekend I will show her how it works and see what she thinks of it. We shall see.

Thanks!

BTW, "they" say that looking in the mirror and stating something you want to believe in for 30 days will have a profound effect on your thinking...

...only 29 more days to go (reference my Intel Inside comment.)

A couple of observations as someone who owns an Apple Pro Mouse, BT Mouse and MM.

Now that I've used the MM, the Pro Mouse feels heavy. Rock solid feel, but at the same time feels like it takes a lot more energy to move compared to the MM.

The BT Mouse is not instantanious like a wired one. Bugs me sometimes. When I do presentations, it comes in very handy as a remote control. I can use in my pocket or on my leg.

The MM is cool. But at times feels cheap since it is lighter than the others.

As for looks, I like the Pro Mouse the best. I have a black one.

I do like the MM's scroll button/wheel. Having both H and V at one time with one control is very very handy. Sometimes I wish the ball were a little bigger -- maybe something about 70-80% bigger radius than the current scroll ball.

Right now, until I get to use the MM with Tiger, I would rate them like this:
- Pro
- MM
- BT

Over the years, I've used quite a few different mice. As for wired verses BT, I prefer wired most of the time. No need to worry about the batteries, they have instant response, and they usually feel more accurate in placement/movement.

Order Delays already!

Placed the order Tuesday evening, at 5pm PDT, estimated ship was 8/4 originally.

Last night I got the standard email stating the estimated ship is now 8/10

Thanks for the detailed review sushi! I feel the same way as you do about wired mouses (you said "mice"! ;)) and although I haven't used the BT mouse itself, from my experience with other wireless mouses I think I prefer wired mouses. Plus, I'm sitting at my desk all the time, so why would my mouse need to be more than a foot away from my computer anyway? For me a wireless mouse makes about as much sense as having a remote control for your car stereo. (And yes, I know those exist, I have one for my current stereo, and to be a bastard I use it to physically press the buttons on my strereo from time to time.)

Did you see the small letters?

Hey,

Did you notice that in the bottom of the mighty mouse web page says "Mighty Mouse © Viacom International Inc. All Rights Reserved." ?

does anybody know why?

Always my thoughts on the wireless ones. I'm hoping that the multidirectional scrolling would make moving the thing less important.

Lemme guess, you're younger than 18? The name is based on cartoon character and this has been mentioned numerous times before, in this very lengthy thread.

Can one of you Mighty Mouse and older iBook/PowerBook owners check you trackpad preferences, I've seen reports that two finger scrolling is possible and enabled on older laptops after installing the Mighty Mouse software.

yep, all present, correct and working

Get used to it - it's all you'll be seeing on new PowerBooks in about a year. ;)

not necessarily - they're not a requirement for producing an intel equipped machine, Intel just give you a better deal if you do.

Its like computer adverts on TV and that awful intel jingle they play - its in there because Intel give you cash towards the advertising if you include it.

I reckon Apple will just reflect, or absorb the (minimal) price increase per unit, or reflect it onto the products' prices.

That's a huge plus in and of itself. Why don't they send that out with the auto-updates? (instead of making us rely on an aftermarket hack)

So the Mighty Mouse you've been using, how does it feel? Could you post your photos of the dismantled mouse so we can get a look at the sensors etc?

Ars Technica dissected one! See their website, and it wouldn't fit AA batteries. So their gonna need rechargeable. Maybe it'll have a "detachable" cord like the Xbox 360 controllers.
