I rest my fingers on my mouse buttons, and if I do that on this new mouse, it will left-click when I tell it to right-click. I find this posture to be the most relaxed and the one that gives me the best feeling of precision control, so this new mouse is absolutely not for me. :(

I wont buy it this time simply because Apple will update this mouse in several months with more functions and a bluetooth version, of course. The downside is it will cost $99.00.

i bought this one, so that when the little Scroll Ball stops working because of grime build up, I can buy the next Mighty Mouse II

i'm still skeptical at the life expectancy of the Scroll Ball.

You will get used to it, like the clutch on a new car.

I found exactly that awkward .... but I'm more than happy, and love it totally.

panning and zooming

The scroll ball can be used for panning around which seems great but can the two force sensitive side buttons be used for zooming? This is essentially directed at someone who has already purchased one as I can not find much information about it on the apple website or else where. If they could be programmed to zoom in and out the mouse would certainly be worth the money. Using apple+= and apple+- is quite good for zooming in and out and works well with adobe and macromedia but it still requires a bit of effort and one to move ones eyes off the screen for a split second. The ability to navigate around an image or cad file easily with one hand would be amazing.

Interestingly, the current BlueTooth keyboard and mouse only cost us about $50 each.

i'll buy the wired version because i don't like batteries running flat, especially when you carry your laptop around a lot (and it's not so nice to edit video using a trackpad :) )

As anyone's shipped the same day when there estimated ship time was 2-4 days?

My estimated ship was "Same-Day," for 12 hours, but it never shipped, and was then adjusted to 2-4 days. Still hasn't shipped. Suppose to ship by next Tuesday. :(

My order says on or before 8/11 right now.
Too bad for the wait. This must mean however that Apple is selling the crap out of these things.
:)

Got Mine...

My Mighty Mouse was delivered today.

I like it. It's exactly what I expected it would be -- which is a standard Apple Mouse with extra, albeit differently executed, functionality. Some of the comments in the online reviews I've read are good observations, others are overly picky. Basically if you like the standard Apple Mouse, you'll probably like Mighty Mouse. If you don't like the standard mouse to begin with, Mighty Mouse ain't gonna win you over.

Overall it's so close in form, if not identical, to the standard Apple Mouse that if you don't actually look at it, and unless your finger hits the scroll ball, you don't know this is a different model. I've seen some reviews say it's lighter than the standard mouse, but to me the weight and hand-feel is pretty well identical. To me, cursor movement & accuracy is identical to the standard mouse as well.

Under Panther you get non-configurable left/right clicking and scrolling, while some Exposé features can be set using the Exposé pref pane. I guess I'm buying Tiger next, which will enable full Mighty Mouse configurability (among other things heh heh). In any case I have absolutely no problems with left/right clicking -- for me it works reliably, without confusion. The scroll ball will take some getting used to because it is small however it does work as advertised. The scroll ball is definitely less annoying than the clicky/crotchety scroll wheel on the cheapo mouse they gave me to go with my WinXP box at work. A couple of pics are posted here.

Hell freezing over

According to Steve Job hell froze over in october 2004 with the release of itunes for windows. but i am still happy to see the development i hated to one button mouse

For new orders, the Mighty Mouse is up to 7-10 business days until shipping. Wow. This thing just keeps selling. :) I figure they make a lot on each one too. What's the most it could cost them to make? $15-$20?

Well, the Mac Mini and iPods are not 50 percent profits as I'm suggesting the mouse is. Of course, the software they make 80 percent or more. I have no problem with it, for I like to see my stock go up. :)

Note that they do have to design their own product, develop their own platform/OS. Unlike sony, they only design and no OS needed, just get it from MS. So Apple do have alot of overhead expenditures.

dudes - I was hoping to snatch a Mighty Mouse!

both Denver stores are sold out

I couldn't get it yesterday because I was busy babysitting my beautiful baby niece

when she's older, and picks a fight with me, I'm gonna remind her about all of this

by then, the Mighty Mouse should have Wifi built in, etc

It's really too bad that it doesn't work with bluetooth or have any wireless capabilites. I was all set to get up and buy one... Oh well, guess I'll have to settle with my Logitech.

Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal is an influential and well-respected columnist and long-time Apple lover, and he began his 08-04-05 Personal Technology article by writing:

"Apple Computer is the design champion of the computer world. But the company has had one blind spot: the mouse. From January 1983, when it introduced the industry's first mouse, through last month, Apple insisted on producing mice with just one button and no scroll wheel."

He ended it with these words: "So, stop the presses: Microsoft has beaten Apple on hardware design, at least in this one case."

Apple'd better get those Windows drivers out soon.
Otherwise, all of those nifty features would be unavailable on a PC.

And isn't that the point?
