Plenty of Trolls right here...

Finally, now those trolls on slasdot have nothing left to complain about!

There are plenty of Trolls right here already complaining about it. They haven't seen it. They haven't used it. They haven't even read anything about it and they're bitching to high heaven. Face it, nothing Apple does satisfies them. Makes one wonder why they are even Mac users.

The one thing left that seperated us from the PC... The One button mouse has officially been crossed. However... times change. Updates are made. It's vital.
I think Mighty Mouse has some sweet features. I'd consider buying one if they release a Wireless Bluetooth one. Personally... my thoughts....
Tueday September 20 at Paris Apple Expo... among new products, we will see a $59 Wireless Mighty Mouse, and a price drop on the corded Mighty Mouse... maybe $39?
We'll see.

I've never understood people that need more than one button. I've never needed more than one. Some people just like to click as opposed to using keyboard commands.

Now how about a trackball addition

After years of speculation, Apple has finally introduced a multi-button mouse specifically designed to work with OS X Tiger.

Dubbed Mighty Mouse, the new input device has an optical sensor, touch-sensitive pads instead of moving click parts on the top, a 360 degree Scroll Ball, and force-sensitive side buttons that can be programmed by the user.

The mouse has a price point of $49 and is available immediately from the online Apple Store.

I work on a PB and often in places that do not allow for moving a mouse around. A trackball/trackman kind of a BT mouse would be great! Any takers?

Can anybody honestly tell me that this mouse is somehow better then the 2-button with scroll wheel Logitech mouse I bought for $10?

I enjoy my Logitech mouse and I wouldn't trade it for the mighty mouse.

I love my Logictech scroll mouse. I just move my thumb. When it becomes wireless, I'll buy. When I get my new ibook. Ahh, the iClitorishttps://forums.macrumors.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=1635499#

Regarding the name -- yeah a little silly, but I would assume that after they start bundling it with new computers (and I would assume that is coming), they will drop the "Mighty" part

This is the first hint at the name of the upcoming Intel-based Macs: Mighty Mac!

:D

I definitely didn't see this coming. I never even saw any rumors about this mouse, so maybe all the rumor sites didn't see it coming either!

The design is interesting, not like any other mouse I've seen. Knowing Apple, it'll probably work well, but you never know. In my opinion, the scroll ball is the most interesting feature, followed by the touch sensitive top shell. If you get this mouse, I'm sure people who see it will be curious about it.

Really, the only thing holding me back from getting this mouse is that it's wired. Once a wireless version comes out (and I'm sure one will soon), I'll order it immediately.

It will be interesting to see how popular this mouse becomes, and whether Apple will ship it with new Macs. Even more interesting will be to see if they eventually decide to add a right click button to the laptop trackpads.

Oh, and I love the name Mighty Mouse! I actually have Mighty Mouse pajamas (and a wallet) from Aeropostal. The little mouse on the pajamas wears a superhero cape, and is sooo cute.

First of all, it's Apple branded.

Second, it's god damn cool and stylish!!!

And, by third, the scroll vertical/horizontal looks amazing.

Far way better than logitech! ;)

Mighty Mouse even sounds as good as it feels. The audio feedback built into Mighty Mouse provides an aural sensation that responds to your movements. A tiny speaker inside Mighty Mouse produces button-clicking and Scroll Ball-rolling sound effects.

OK That is just fracking cool. I'll be counting the days before someone programs it to squeak when you squeeze it. :D

Here's one for all you "lawyers" who thought about copyright stuff and lawsuits.

Because Steve says so, and it has the little Apple logo on it. Actually, I think Apple are trying to increase their market share and taking the computer business seriously...

Phase I - Create Worlds Best Operating System ... Check
Phase II - Create Worlds Best Digital Music Player/Music Store...Make Apple a household name... Check
Phase III - Dispell (silly) myths about Apple computers (Not run Office, too expensive, no two-button mice)... Check
Phase IV - Use Phases I-III to expand computers into wide(er)spread personal use... We shall see.

But what about kinesthetic feedback?

Ok the first two are the worst reasons I've ever heard. The scroll vertical/horizontal isn't worth $50 to most people.

Squeak? I want mine to roar!

Just talked to one of my vendors and he said that they had information on this last week about new mouse pricing but everyone thought it was a typo, can't say i saw it coming at all! Love the design, gonna get me one as soon as FedEx can drop it off!

I admit it, I saw the title and KNEW it was a joke

The "squeeze" function would feel perfect for Exposé, "squeezing" your windows down :)

Looks really cool, and priced nicely compared to other "high-end" mice--but I'd have to know just exactly HOW the left-right sensors work. Could I adapt? Would I even have to?

I don't want to have to lift one finger AWAY from the mouse before clicking down, to make sure the other finger is the one detected. I doubt you'd have to--I think the chances of Apple not having thought this through are low :) But Apple takes risks in leading people to new ways of working. The price of innovation is that some risks don't work out so well in practice--or not the first time.

And for some common games you need to be able to click the other button while one button is already down. Is there a way that can work with this mouse? Not clear to me yet. (I don't think squeeze or ball would make an ideal alt-fire.)

So I'll have to head to the Apple Store and try one :)

(And then I'll await a rechargeable BT version--one without a charger, please. Just a USB cord you use when you need to.)

The ball is an utterly obvious solution. How does Apple manage to be first with obvious solutions so much? :) (But again, I'd have to judge it in person. No tactile feedback, just a speaker? I like the clicks I can feel in my current wheel. And how's the tension on the ball to prevent accidental middle-clicks? Apple's pretty good at those details generally.)

As for the name... "Might Mouse"?? Well. OK. All I can say is that watching Apple has been fun this year, but the writing this season has been somewhat spotty.

Cool, neccessary product. God-awful name. I feel like a loser just saying it.

I agree that name is lame. It sounds like a kiddie product. I think I'll get one when Apple comes out with a BT model. I've wanted to use an official Apple mouse (it just seems better and I'm a sucker) but there was no way I would use a one button mouse.

-Cant wait for reports of the mouse in action, to see if apple has pulled it off. Seems like they have developed the 1 button as much as possible, without admitting they'd prefer a simple 2 button. Looks like pride has meant they have had to develop a new clicking style, Possibly in the face of ergonomic argument. We shall see how they perform

Why the need for the latest OS? I refuse to believe this is done on honourable technical reasons. Is anyone else sick of apple doing this?

- Like when the Shuffle menu feature was only incorporated into the new ipods. Then it was added to the others much later.

- Concious downgrade on Ibook, when a logical spec would include DVI...

-Blah, Blah. Loads of examples of apple being true to thier design 'ethic'

I'm not slating apple, but they do put their foot in it, when they proclaim the direction they will go in. Seems like lately they are making U-turns all over the place, and not in a bad way. - Just having a byproduct of looking stupid

that is incredible! that wee's on my Logitech V500

DEFINATELY the next mouse i buy  i want to cry

although my V500 has a bloody incredible DPI. hmm...

Is it cold in here or did hell just freeze? :D

No, hell froze over when Apple announced the switch to Intel processors. This is just a two button mouse... no big deal in comparison to that. :)
