Splash Power!

While I'd love to see a BT version of this I reckon (although don't quote me on this!) that the power requirements for touch sensistivity/speaker would mean you'd have to change batteries a lot!

When is Splash Power going to make the break? I mean a big Splash Pad on your desktop for charging mouse/keyboard and phone while you work away would be sweet!

whoa. just realised it isnt Bluetooth. oh well. no buy then :)

my next mouse MUST be bluetooth. sorry Apple. keep working though

Bluetooth mice are overrated

Bluetooth mice are way too heavy. Especially for any kind of gaming. If Apple can design a lightweight BT version of this 'lil guy, I'll be all over it.

First Apple goes to Intel, and now a multi-button mouse. This is it. It's the end, and I'm not even ready...

Anyway, doesn't this announcement seem random to anybody? I mean it's all by itself, not connected to any other product. Just seems wierd to me.

Regards,
Gus

Well it is Tuesday. Everybody should always check Apple's website Tuesday. Who knows what next Tuesday holds.

Responsive!

Never let it be said that Apple isn't responsive to its customers! After only a decade or so of clamboring, begging, pleading, and trying to get Apple to offer us such a product in exchange for our cash, they're finally acquiescing and letting us spend our money on their products.

Upon visiting the MR homepage, I thought this news article was just a rumor. But then I went to the Apple site, and ::woah!:: it's no joke! There is a Jebus! I was just about to purchase a Microsoft Starck mouse because I simply couldn't get used to the daily operation of ctrl+clicking, though occasionally it's fine. I am spending $50 tonight!

Very Interesting....

OS named after a Cat(s).
Mouse named after... well a Mouse.

Cat and Mouse... hmmm...
Maybe it's nothing.... just interesting.

I liked the one-button mouse very much because of its simplicity. Did you ever see computer beginners wondering all the time which button to press? Two buttons are far too complicated for standard tasks like web, email, iLife, word processing.

I did see it, with my mom. But it seems she quickly got over it (though she's still occationally confused over it) and now she use the tiny Sony VAIO laptop mouse that I own, instead of the one-button Apple mouse.

As for me, I think I'll stick to Logitech for now. *Hugs MX1000* :D

Edit: Can't believe that name... "Might Mouse"? If I didn't see it myself on Apple's site, I'd think it was a stupid joke.

Another move by Apple to attract more Switchers

Another move by Apple to attract more Switchers

I suspect this move by Apple is to make the Switch To A Mac easier for those Windows users who were unhappy with a single button mouse.

Good Job Apple

$44 edu, not TOO bad... I'll have to go try one sometime, but the way I understand this is that it is touch sensitive, but you still click it? So there's only one actual button, it just knows where your finger was when you clicked it, right?

I hope someone comes up with a hack to add some more granularity to the clickable areas... rather than just left and right, I'd like a couple more hotzones. Like front left and main left, and main right and back right for example. The main left/right would do what you expect and the front/back areas would activate expose (all programs and all windows one program), leaving your squeeze click available for dashboard and the center click for desktop, etc.

Dunno if I will get one of these... wish they would have released it about a month ago, as my MS 3 button scroll mouse FINALLY died after 6 years of faithful service. I picked up a Logitech 8 button scroll mouse, and I've grown used to having all the expose modes, dashboard, left/right click, next/forward (cmd-arrows) on my mouse at once. I've also found some wierd glitch that lets me eject discs from my mini by hitting the dashboard button and the all programs all windows expose button and the same time... wierd but useful.

Great, yes... but...

I'm glad Apple finally made a two (well, 'four,' actually) button mouse with scrolling capabilities.

But, I have two reservations:

1. How can you have a 'touch' sensitive button on a mouse? I like to rest my fingers on the mouse buttons and I kinda like the tactile feedback I get when I click the mouse. How is Apple going to deal with this. If you've ever tried typing on one of those 'flat' keyboards, you'll know what I mean; no tactile feedback = awkward experience. I might be able to get used to it... but I doubt it.

2. The 'scroll bar' on the top reminds me of the old IBM ThinkPad mouse things (you know, the little red dots in the middle of the keyboard). Those things were notorious for losing their nice-feeling finish within a year or so of use. I don't know if using one of those is the best way to go... but time will tell (perhaps Apple uses some newer, better material).

The price is to be expected. It's from Apple, so you pay a little more. That's the way it is, has been, and always will be. It's an Apple product.

I'm happy with my Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0 right now; not only is it wireless, but this is the first mouse I've ever used that has the right amount of 'clickiness' on the buttons. Better even then the older Apple Mice (I think it was the ADB II Mouse).

Anywho, that's my 2¢.

It could be a very cunning plan to back gracefully out of the one button system

Ship a two-button mouse that looks and acts like a one-button mouse until activated to be two button
Wait until more people order a mighty mouse than a normal mouse
Quietly switch so that the default shipping mode is 2 button
Drop the one button mouse entirely.

Tho part of me hopes not. When I went back to Apple, I missed my two buttons. 18 months later and I really don't want two buttons on my next Powerbook...

If it is built like that, I think it would work (and I might investigate getting one, or getting someone else to get one for me ;-) ). However, it would still take some getting used to for two-button veterans...

Gaming? on a Mac? *snicker*

All the time. Halo and Doom III were shown first on Mac. But good to see trolls are out on this fine day :)
