While it's cool that Apple finally has a multibutton mouse and the touch sensitvity is a nice features, I want to know when Apple will design a mouse that actually fits the shape of your hand. For those of us that work on a computer all day long, the mouse is the biggest ergonomic concern. Apple's mice have always been too small and regularly shaped (except the old boxy ones from way back when which were too big) to really fit comfortably in your hand.
That is all relative... my hands are smaller and the Apple mouse already feels borderline "big." The MX#### line from Logitech is HUGE in my hand... so it is all relative.

Squeeze side buttons

Okay, then what are those same force-sensing (squeeze) side buttons doing on my translucent-over-white mouse that came with the first flat-panel iMac two years ago? I wondered at first what they were doing there, and then forgot about it. Now I see the same buttons on this new mouse, and I feel gypped. They could have built that functionality into this mouse all along. :(

Anyone else ever wonder what those two side squeeze buttons were doing there on your mouse? Or am I just clueless and they're actually functional?

So wonderful! In pure Apple fashion, they didn't want to satisfy their customers by giving them the status quo with an Apple logo. They took what was being done, and innovated it. I love it!

I realize it's already been said many times (and a few people are annoyed with it), but in hopes that some Apple employees are reading these forums, I wanted to chime in my desire for a bluetooth version. Right when I got done reading about the mouse, I was about to click on the "Buy" button, but wanted to check for bluetooth first. I realize Apple is not retarded...they've been pushing the bluetooth thing a lot, so they obviously realize that a bluetooth mighty mouse would be desired. It's gotta be coming soon. I imagine that it was taking a little bit longer to develop, and they wanted to get this out ASAP (for good reason!).

Man, I was so excited to purchase this TODAY! I guess I'll just have to wait for the bluetooth version. But for how long???????????????? The only thing I'm worried about...if the starting price was $49, does that mean a bluetooth version will be more? Please NO! Drop the original to $39, and the bluetooth to $49. I'd pay that in a heartbeat.

Try clicking, holding and lifting your mouse all at the same time without touching those "buttons". You don't have to do this often but I happens.

Bluetooth will come.

Any person who states I still like PC's better because they have 2 mutton mice is ignorant in my opinion and now has no more excuses but will probably find some lame one.

What took you so long Apple?

It took me a while to get used to the optical mouse and how you had to pinch it to move it. Wonder if this takes some getting used to. However, I'm sure that it is engineered well.

It inevitably will ship with new systems and probably a Bluetooth one will ship with all systems after that. Just give it proper time.

Man what is Steve doing?? Intel?? Two buttons?? Whats next Wal-Mart?

I would love to see something like the Mac Mini sold in Wal-Mart. Any way Apple can easily get Macs in the hands of the lower/lower medium class people is good for Apple.

Oh, and BTW....iPod Mini's and I think shuffles are sold some in Wal-Mart's already!

It's ok looking. I'd prefer a scroll wheel, but i'm still going to get 1. I have a MacMice BT mouse, and it's the worse mouse ever. I hope Apple's mouse doesn't have the same problem as the MacMice mouse did, and that was it was it was way to east to left click when u wanted to right click, and vice versa. The design looks similar, I hope they dont have similar problems.

Nice price point by the way.

wow, and full @ Win2k and XP intergration, but leaves Panther users with half the feature. WTF.

Too bad it didn't say 'Mighty Powerbook' on the Apple website.

It looks like a nice mouse, and it would be fun if you can change the sound it makes, but i doubt it.

I love the name :D a wink to the cartoon from the 50's, a tongue-in-cheek name, and that's kinda apple-ish, me thinks...

Pleeasse.... i was just about to say how i can't wait to see how the one-button zealots will rationalize this one....

i like the design.

somehow i think i will buy this and simply let go of my contentment with one button. tis a strange day. but i really hope this doesnt lead to contextual menu based design in mac centric software. that is why i like one button mice. forces software design to keep everything organized in a different manner.

Personally i would hate to see Apple support a store like Walmart. They are a ruthless company that treats its employees like dirt, not the mindset that i want Apple to be a part of. I want Apple to open more Apple Stores or possibly medium size kiosks which would get the word out better then a Walmart. Put kiosks next to the cell phones and i guarantee you will see ipod sales increase. And yes i refuse to shop at Walmart.

First Apple goes to Intel, and now a multi-button mouse. This is it. It's the end, and I'm not even ready...

Next thing is gonna be monkeys flying out of someone's butt !!

Bluetooth mice are way too heavy. Especially for any kind of gaming. If Apple can design a lightweight BT version of this 'lil guy, I'll be all over it.

m

I have to disagree with that. I don't see any difference between a regular mouse and the Apple BT mouse when gaming. Yeah it is heavier than the regular mouse, but that doesn't make any difference in gaming IMO.

Well I'd never thought I would see the day.

I may have to consider this when the BT version comes out. Although I'm not too crazy about the squeeze side button. It looks like you have to squeeze and it only acts as one button. I would much rather have them work independently so I can have one side do expose and the other clear the desktop.

Regardless it is a step in the right direction. Go Apple!

I'm sitting at work, in front of "my" Dell. I, of course, have my iBook sitting right next to it, with iTunes. I look down at the wireless Micro$oft mouse on my Dell and I just think, "You poor thing. You are so....last year." I used to think this mouse was sweet. Just wait for the bluetooth Mighty Mouse, and then it'll be unstoppable!

Where is the pro stuff?

No wireless. No ergonomic design. Sticking with my Logitech MX Laser. Apple needs to pony up and offer a seperate mouse and keyboard for the Powermac line, and leave the cutsie stuff for the iMacs and Minis. Though, I might get one for my four year old; it's about the right size for his hand.

Will these come standard with new Macs?

Well you don't represent everyone, and it would be in Apple's interest to sell at least the MacMini in Wal-Mart. You people need to learn to open up a little. The most hands we can get Macs into, the better off Apple will be in the long run. Especially now that Apple is going Intel.

Yeah, Wal-Mart may not be the best company in the world to work for, but that doesn't mean that they should sell their product in there. Its a lot cheaper for Apple to sell Macs in Wal-Mart than it is to build more Apple Stores. Apple will only build so many Apple Stores World-wide. I would say that within the next 2 years, Apple will probably slow down in building Apple Retail Stores. You don't want to over do them. I'm sure everyone wants an Apple Store in their town, but obviously thats not possible and if its an area thats not profitable, then Apple won't put a store there. Some areas unfortunately, will never get a retail store simply because that area can't support one.

Looks like it could be really cool, but I hope they DONT use it as the standard shipping mouse with all their computers. For 2 reasons...

1) Having more than one mouse button as standard will encourage poor software design

2) The whole advantage of the Mac is that it eliminates unnecessary complexity which allows power users as well as novice to navigate with comparable efficiency.

Try telling my 60 something year old mother who is very seriously thinking of switching "No, no, to activate this feature you have to squeeze the mouse, don't click it. No, no, not roll it to the side, squeeze the sides."

I'm glad there are many shapes out there to suit every need.

But for me, Apple's mouse shape is the single best shape I've ever used. I HATE those giant slanted ones that put the whole weight of your arm down on the mouse! That makes most multi-button mice a pain for me. I'd rather have the heel of my hand on the desk, and use just my fingers for smaller mouse movements. I have big hands, but I greatly prefer a small mouse--I don't WANT it to "fit" my whole hand.
