Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro alone on iPad are $4.99 a month each currently. Both on the Mac are a combined $500. And you get all those extra support modules for many programs and Pixelmator Pro. This rate seems pretty reasonable. As for people whining about subscriptions... Like streaming services, you can cancel any time if you are not using it. I already have Final Cut Pro Mac, but I bought it... Actually my wife bought it for me many years ago. It's been updated many times. So no big deal to pay a few bucks for even more development. Also... Oh noes! New icons! How will I do my work!?
On edit: Uh, this seems pretty good... Up to six family members can share all of the apps and content included in Apple Creator Studio with Family Sharing.
Not only can you cancel, you can cancel from one central location, no requirement to do it through a company’s website.

TOO CHEAP?

While I don't love the shift to subscription, my concern is that charging around 20% of what Adobe's charging is a statement of intent from Apple regarding their future investment (or lack thereof) in these apps. Pricing it in the $30-40/month range would suggest that we're about to see another big push in pro app development, while the current pricing feels more like a cash grab on previously free/one-time-purchase items.

So it looks like Apple's greatest innovation recently appears to be monthly recurring revenue.

Bring back upgrade pricing. Apple is largely responsible for killing upgrade pricing by never introducing a proper way for devs to actually offer paid upgrades within the AppStore and now no one expects to ever have to pay for things... it's ludicrous.
Bring back upgrade pricing instead of just charging once?

I have the one time purchase version of Final Cut Pro now. However, I don't hate this idea. I was afraid Apple was going to cancel the apps because they didn't make enough money to keep working on them, and this will fix that problem.

Until they cancel your license and make you pay monthly ... 😱

Those icons… I have no words.

I don't mind them, they achieve a synergy while still being individually unique and a much better effort than Adobe.

Worth noting it seems it's the black versions they're marketing with. These appear to be the colour versions.

One thing I am curious about it will these 'Creator Studio' icons also be for the free iWork (although this term seems to have been retired) apps.

I think personally I'd have preferred if iWork existed as a distinct package (Pages, Numbers, Keynote and add in Freeform) with Creator Studio, maybe call it Pro Studio or Creator Pro as they all have Pro in their name, being Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro and Pixelmator Pro and their associated apps.

It's almost like everyone has forgotten that this is a problem of Apple's own making. There used to be this thing called upgrade pricing. Back before the AppStore destroyed software monetization we would expect to pay for our software up front and then when we wanted new features we would pay for the upgrade to get those new features... We didn't have to pay perpetually to access already developed features, instead we bought a product and used that product. Subscriptions actually disincentivize developers from having to offer new features as the customer just always has to pay if they want access to the product.

I'm glad at least some people still remember there was a different way that worked just fine.

Yeah, I don’t get the people asking for Apple to bring back upgrade pricing.
When the apps had upgrade prices, they were over $1000 and were updated on average every 18 to 24 months.
You would really, honestly, truly rather pay $999 every 18 months instead of $129 a year for continuing updates?
Why? Just on principal? That seems like a lot of wasted money just to prove a point or whatever.

NOOOOOOOOOOO.

They haven't killed it yet but give it a year and the only way you can use Final Cut, logic, etc will be with a subscription. Going the way of adobe. Incredibly awful, horrible news.
Depends. Those apps haven't gotten the frequent massive updates as Adobe because they don't charge a subscription. So if charging a subscription means they will be actively investing in the apps, then I'm all for a sustainable business model. Now if they are just going to charge and keep the same limited update pace, then yeah that is horrible news. Though people have got free updates to FinalCut for so many years they have really been spoiled.

Will the subscription of Final Cut Pro come with exclusive, mind-blowing, never-seen–before features like mixing?

Except that it really doesn’t, it seems to me.

With upgrade pricing we expect bug fixes and other patches. Managing these is not cost free for developers. Furthermore we expect them in perpetuity, which is more costly still. And at the same time we clamor for new features and even feel entitled to them!

In short we expect a lot more than just the original release that we bought…for free. This isn’t a rational expectation.

Glad I switched to Cubase as my main DAW when I did. Logic has gone down the drain in recent years—it was good until version 10.5, and then it went sharply downhill after that.
They have certainly diverged even more in direction. I think what Apple does with their session players is interesting per se, it's just not interesting for me. On the other hand, what Cubase does for example with their handling of chord tracks and the chord assistant etc. is interesting for me.
