Oh really?
Is that why....
1) Every new Mac mini 2018 has Bluetooth interference issue that still can’t be fixed
2) Every single laptops sold by Apple comes with a keyboard that inevitably fails due to dust accumulation
3) iMacs from 2 years ago are still being sold at their original price, with no update in sight
Get a grip. Nobody was taken from those hardware teams and told to start designing Animoji.

This is the **** Apple chooses to invest r&d money into? smh
I would love it if the rest of their selling gear wasn’t so stagnant and outdated. But to be honest every change or new thing has to be celebrated these days.

Are you sure? Haven’t seen any decent hardware announcement since 2012 that came out flawless.

If the framework for Animoji is already in place with a stock set of recognised facial expressions, all it takes is a 3D graphic designer and animator to create some new ones. This isn't taking any time or energy away from software engineers doing their OS-level jobs.

That said, they could have chosen better animals.

Now you and anyone else who feels this way can shake your heads as a boar!

I can totally see this stuff selling phones so it’s probably a wise investment, even if it wouldn’t be top of my list of things I’d prefer they spend time on.

But the more money they make selling phones, the more money they have to put into R&D in general, so maybe some of the things you do like came out of popular-if-seemingly-trivial features you don’t care about.

TL;DR, the daft fluff probably indirectly funds serious features that aren’t as easy to put in snappy, attention-grabbing ads etc., so I wouldn’t worry about it.

And I’m saying all that as someone who dislikes multiple new features in newer iPhones(!). I WISH they’d just spent time on animoji instead of the notch, or removing the headphone socket, soapbar edges, protruding camera lenses, huge device sizes... but never mind.

Woohoo!!!! Just what we needed! Who needs better battery life and squashed bugs when you can have brand new Animoji characters!!! Woohoo!!!!!

What is wrong with you people?

Apple has been innovating. That’s why people copy the Apple Watch, AirPods, Notched Design, folder icons, even Animoji’s. Because Apple is ahead of the game and does it better than anyone else.

You want 10bit color, some of us want 120hz.
Oh sweet, sweet Amacfa. I don’t know how you could honestly justify the claim that Apple is “Ahead of the game”. I agree that they do it better than (most) everybody else, but that’s about all I agree with. Think about the features and technology that emerged and was implemented in smartphones FAR before Apple had.

Again, your list of priorities is not the gospel and some of them aren't even accurate. You also don't know the status, complexity, or hours being worked on these.

NOT releasing the Animoji DOES NOT guaranteed a fix for anything you've listed.

They are UNRELATED. That's the point. Stop conflating issues.

BMW is releasing the same car they had in 2016, for MORE money, and they just call it the 2019 model. So what? Tech moves and the Mac doesn't need a yearly update to be competitive. Notice that Mac just grew nicely at nearly 10% y/y.

Totally worth the price of an iPhone XS Max: I can finally sing Hakuna Matata using the Boar animoji!
... can't do *that* on Android. ;)

i want mr trump or mr cook as animoji. that would be funny. not animals

Again, the Animojis available does not have any relation to whether or not the company is innovative.

This constant nonsense whenever there is a new Animoji or Emoji is just getting old and sad.

Getting old and sad? It's been quite tiring for a long time now.

Also, the whole "no one's allowed to do anything, fun or otherwise, until my specific hardware complaints are fixed" stance would leave 99% of Apple employees idle.

Haha these are actually pretty cool. Regardless of whether you use these personally, this is the kind of exclusive feature that’ll keep growing iMessage. Animoji are geared to the young people who determine what platforms get adopted and lead the market. Heck, I’m almost 40 and I love these.

Now, I’m almost afraid to read the comments... here we go.

This utterly pointless incrementalism will be Apple’s downfall.

How many people are actually excited about this, 4?
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's pointless. All my nieces and nephews get a kick out of Animoji and use them on Facetime constantly. You and others on this board act like the artists and do this kind of work could be doing significantly different tasks.
