Let's face it, no one really needs the retina display.

Too little storage unless you want to break the bank. I am interested to see how good this "revolutionary" this new fan is.

How much (in £) can I get for my early '11 MacBook Pro?
Antiglare hi-res
8GB Cosair Vengeance 1600MHz
2.3GHz i7 Sandy
750GB HDD.
If I can get some decent amount for this, I will definitely get the new MBP :apple:
Damn you Apple.

here in switzerland you pay the same for the new macbook pro with
16gb/512gb ssd + ext superdrive, than for a 8gb/512gb ssd upgraded one.

3,458.- to 3,439.-

wow.

Not just their entire computing lineup, but that of every other OEM's laptop in existence.

Not to blow your mind or anything, but the battery, space, processor, and other requirements needed to power a retina display make it either unfeasible for some designs (MBA) or jack the price up. Just like economies of scale are finally increasing the adoption of SSD technology that has been around for ages, you're going to have to wait for this technology to come down to your price point. But I guess it's more fun to throw a tantrum.

So you're saying they can get retina to work on a $500 device but it's impossibly difficult on a $1500 device?

The tantrum comes from the fact that until the new pro, the displays on the 13 and 15 stink. So you can either get a good display on a crippled device (ipad) or on a super computer (new MBP) but nothing in the middle.

Heck, where are the 1080p, (in 13" sony's) or 1200 or 1600 for that matter?

I'm probably buying the retina MBP, but their not making it an easy choice for me. The lineup is a mess in my opinion.

And on life-support...

I just sent in a Macrumors tip....

Basically Apple is designing their computers solely for graphic designers/editors. Theres no reason for me to have a retina display, i'd hardly notice it. All I do is code and read papers.

Hey guys! If I were you, I'd wait a year or so (painful, I know) to get the retina/ssd MacBook Pro. Right now components are expensive, but the price should drop significantly in the next year. Knowing Apple, by this time next year, the price for a 15" Retina MBP will be $1799 tops and make its way into the mainstream models.

I agree, I'll wait for 2nd generation MBP with retina.

It obviously isn't a 2.5 drive.. the images show its the same blade design they would just keep using the blade SSD's to save costs and that they already have them available with airs.

So its the same thing as the air, you can upgrade them but they are expensive.

Pft, screw that. The laptop is already expensive as it is, they didnt need to make it even pricier with the extra handicap.

I hope apple continues making the normal macbook pros, theyre much more well rounded.

This will be my next computer. Was considering an iMac plus my current MBA 11", but with the retina display, insane performance, USB3, SSD...i'm probably going to sell my Air and get this. Once I can afford it.

This is pretty much the laptop I have been wanting Apple to make. Although I still want to see the size in person. Although I know the second I touch one in person my wallet will be $2000 lighter.

I currently have no need for a new laptop, much less one that is so far beyond what I could ever need. Even so, I can't help but be impressed by the differences between this newest laptop, and the previous top of the line macbook pro. Every single "best" quality of the macbook air was included. Every single "best" quality of the last gen. macbook pro was included. On top of that, it has a screen that equals the best of the best. Retina! Oh, it has faster flash memory, better graphics, better ports, a better camera, speakers, battery, and probably more.

I don't need it. I couldn't use it the way it was intended. I'm still drooling. I'm just really impressed that apple could improve on something that I thought was nearly perfect. Yes, the newest PCs were getting close or, by using some ultrabook traits, even passing Apple. I admit, there are some really nice looking PCs, and very attractively priced, but the bar seems higher now. My opinion may be off because I haven't upgraded my OS in a while, and the new mountain lion is way beyond what I'm using now.

As much as I had hoped that I would get a new iPhone, and others wanted a new Mac Pro, iMac, TV, or whatever, I'm that much more excited about what might come next now. Before this, I had almost no hope that the iPhone 5 would be leaps and bounds better than my wife's iPhone4. Maybe a bigger screen, but that's about it.

Anyway, if I were on the Board of Directors for Apple, I certainly would prefer regular releases of hardware so each gets a big media blip over just one.

I thought this new MacBook was a pretty sick idea.

Oh, and let go of Steve Jobs now. He's just a great guy from the past, just like eddison or ford. Move on.
