I hope the new iPad is the product that finally switches back to Qualcomm modems instead of intel. They said faster LTE, but will it be the same intel chip the SE 2 has or finally get a Qualcomm chip.

If I had just bought a new 11" Pro... I'd be ticked. Is the only difference the camera system?
What 11" ipad pro has over the new ipad air

- just 0.1" bigger
- up to 1T SSD
- 10MP Ultra Wide
- starting with 128GB instead of 64 SSD
- the dimensions and weight are almost the same
- 600 nits max brightness over 500nits on the air
- ProMotion technology
- Brighter True Tone flash
- Four speaker audio
- faceID / touchID
- LIDAR
- more Ram

So, i hope this will be helpful

What does your grandma do which Air 3 was not enough for?

I may be getting my nomenclature wrong, but it’s a model that’s 7 or 8 years old at this point. She’s gotten all security oriented with the pandemic, had me set up a couple wireless cameras and she’s bugging me that the alerts don’t hit fast enough. WiFi speed is fine, I just think her old iPad’s processor is too long in the tooth. New base model will last her another 7-10 years and she probably won’t need another one past that.

Damm, really gouging is Canadians though. $780 for the base model air in Canada. Almost $1k for a cellular? Wtf Apple, currency exchange isn’t that extreme

I'm thinking about buying older Pro with Face ID and 120Hz screen. Probably going to cost $600-700 after today's announcements.

The upgrade path/replacement for the iPad Pro is an Apple Silicon MacBook, to be announced in Oct. Higher margins for Apple are a nice-side effect.

Has everybody just collectively forgotten about the iPad mini? It only seems to get stealth spec bumps on random days of the year with no fanfare.

An iPad mini sized device with a larger edge to edge screen like the iPad Pro would be my dream device. I personally know more people with iPad minis than either iPad or iPad Pro. The mini’s perfect for being able to fit in a jacket pocket, able to be held edge to edge by one hand, and use full iPad apps and iPhone apps. It seems to be the runt of the litter, nobody seems to care much about it.

Super cool to see that USB-C is now on the iPad air, I always see the iPad air as a great product for people who don't need an iPad pro.

What size would you want from the Mini? Seems like there isn't much space between the largest phone and smallest ipad so the market for ipad mini would be very limited

Question for folks, since I haven't really paid much attention to iPad line. Given iPad, iPad Air, iPad Pro - what's the best keyboard case or attachment to get as close as possible to "laptop replacement"? We have a 2017 Pro and haven't really played with that.
The magic keyboard (available for the Pro and the new Air). Honestly, for the 11"/10.9", it's the only usable option from Apple, though some of the aftermarket keyboards look workable as well.

So Pro = Face ID, LIDAR (who uses that), quad speakers and 120Hz screen? The Air is priced right, so I think Apple just cannibalised their own product line - that is, unless iPad Pro becomes the next gen MacBook ARM.
You have to assume that the new iPad Pros are going to use an even better A14X chip, which will have more graphics cores and ram, which is part of what will set it apart from the new iPad Air. It may also shift to mini-LED, if those rumors are accurate. I would assume that MacBook [Pros or otherwise] will start with a similar 14X-type chip, then move up in power from there. With the performance of the 12X and 12Z chips already outrunning many Intel chips, you know that Apple will offer even better performance with the upcoming Apple Silicon computers, which will also outperform the iPhone / iPad Pro iterations of the chips, in order to maintain differentiation.

Get an adapter...easy peasy...
I’ve actually tried an adapter for my air 2 to test what it would be like to have no jack. It sucks.

The power port being placed in the middle on the device makes the wire awkward as heck. If the USB port when is the corner of the device it’d be perfect

No, it doesn’t:

It says stereo speakers for the Air and four speaker audio for the Pro.
because us audiophiles know there is no better way to listen to music than from the 4 speaker iPad Pro....

This puts the iPad Pro in an awkward position. Desperately needing an update.

The iPad Pro is dead. The Apple Silicon MacBook with a foldable/maybe detachable/pencillable display is the upgrade path.

It’s an iPad.
It’s a MacBook.
It’s a revolutionary device.

Are you getting it?

That's an interesting observation. If we assume Geekbench scores are comparable across CPU architectures, entry 2020 Air is 1000/1986 and 12.9" iPad Pro is 1118/4631. That's quite a significant difference in multi-threading performance. Does that translate into iPad being "more responsive" than Air? Which is a better computing experience, walled garden concerns aside.

The better experience is the one where I don't have to use full screen apps

So, no more iPad sitting at the $499 mark?

This new Air is awesome, and so nice to see more colourful options.

Also, I know the 11” Pro has quad speakers, 120hz display, Face ID, and LiDAR, but I feel like this Air will steal a lot of those sales.

So would there be any reason, beside cheaper price and more color options, to buy the new Air over the 2020 iPad Pro? And if you could find the 2018 iPad Pro for the same price as the Air, are you losing out on anything?
