What big bezels! ...
Big bezels are really helpful on the mini. 1) It's the only iPad most people can comfortably hold in one hand. The bezels give you a place to put your thumb without blocking whatever you are reading or accidentally tapping something. 2) Large bezels allow designing more robust cases. Lots of mini users are mini humans who tend to drop them from car seats, etc.

What big bezels! Hell they're thicker on the sides than the one it's replacing, though I know this was the case with the 10.5" to 11" Pro as well. Could definitely have gone 8.4"

As an iPad Mini user from the first minute and now on a 2-year old Pro (the 10.5" one), you need the bezels to hold it. It's really that simple. I never hold the Pro with one hand, actually, I hardly ever hold it ... but the Mini is intended to be held while using (just like iPads were intended to be used waaaaay back).

I've been waiting for this Mini for forever. I was holding out because I really didn't want to go for Pencil 1 and the old Toch ID design, especially after having used the Pro as well.

You had someone asking about iPad Air 4 versus iPad mini 6 which one to get and then I see that A15 on the mini. Insane. Apple now diffidently considers the iPad mini more important model now. o_O

Nope, no way, this is getting silly, actually, stupidity.

If you've never had / used a mini - you don't know what you're missing. I still use a mini 2 (2013 w/ A7!) just about EVERY day - its perfect-for-me form factor is what makes it the go to over my normal sized ipad of half the age.

(new one is quite expensive though)

The Air will likely be updated by early 2022 with the A15. Given supply constraints Apple likely figured they’d be stretching A15 availability to the max between new phones and the Mini.
