Yes!

I was right about the quadcore:

I bet on Quadcore. How would it make sense to keep the same processor and double the RAM? I bet that 5X means not the new nm achitecture for the processor - hence a "A5" with an "X" which resembles the 4 as it has 4 prongs. Enhanced versions with Apple usually had an "a" or an "S" behind it. So, how would it make sense to use practically the same CPU on-die (I am not talking about GPU etc on the die) if you double the RAM and so on? Yes, I get the 4x display real estate and the needed RAM upgrade, I'm all for it! Just I see that the core number is relevant as well, if not more so. We are talking about physics effects in racing games or the Unreal engine. To keep the heat down, 4 cores are almost a must.

In other words, I hope for y'all that I am right. I will stay with my iPad 2 for now (my wife would kill me otherwise  ).

Too many questions

Sigh, AT&T or Verizon?

I travel a lot. Is the Verizon iPad like their iPhone -- ie, will roam to GSM? Sounds like it from specs.

Unfortunately, the data packages for overseas roaming is a lot more on Verizon versus AT&T.

But LTE coverage for AT&T sucks now, and won't get much better. Verizon has 700 mhz locked up nationwide (licenses at least). AT&T has a patchwork quilt of coverage.

... and Verizon minimum data package is $30 vs $15 for AT&T.

Anyone know what the hotspot addon details are for each yet?

I'm going nuts, can't decide which carrier..... (I used the crap out of my ipad 1 in Mexico last month... $99 for 275 megs is pretty decent for roaming)

I picked free shipping because it said "delivers on the 16th". Doesn't that mean it'll be shipped out before that date? Or else it would have said "ships on the 16th", right, right!!? :D

$1.00 on hold

I had no idea if my order went through as the store kept crashing so I checked my bank account: Apple Online Store $1.00 - I guess they'll charge me the remaining $792.70 when it ships. White 32 GB AT&T. Just got the email too.

They will ship it Thursday via overnight shipping.

This is SOP for Apple.

wohooo!!! just got mine! White 32gb wifi. Pretty stoked as this is my first iPad. Pre-ordering was a b*tch and a half though.

Siri and Front Camera are, I suspect, linked by bandwidth constraints / availability. Siri after all needs a constant internet connection to process queries which you can't always guarantee on an iPad and which would cause non-technical users confusion when it doesn't work thanks to user error. The front camera is a bit different but my pet theory is two-fold: 1) You have to feed these images to an iPhone so HD isnt really needed for that and would eat up bandwidth if fed between iPad's on cellular networks (and therefore may not work as well in marginal signal areas) and 2) There may simply not be enough room in the case, doesn't the logic board sit behind the front camera?

The exciting feature is, frankly, the Retina display. Remember what happened when the iPhone 4 came out, the instant people saw it alongside any other device it blew them all away.

As for the iPad 2 I suspect Apple just don't need to set that low a price point. Remember they will still have refurb iPad's available at lower prices than $399 and once you've gone down to that point it makes it much harder to come back up if you need to. Also if Apple are thinking about a 7" device they need that price space to slot it in between the iPod Touch and the iPad.

I still think they should have figured out how to put in an HD ff camera.
But you make some interesting points. First about Siri and an "on/off" Internet connection for the wifi model (which will again most likely be the most sold).
Also, I forgot about the "Ipad mini".
But, regarding the iphone 4, I think it was still a bigger "jump" from the 3GS than this new Ipad is from the previous one. Also, it had a new (un.......believable) form factor that made it stand out from the previous model -and still from any other phone out there. I guess me hoping for holographic screen for Ipad3 and a teletransportation device for the 4th might have been exaggerated... ;)

Its CPU is dual-core. Only the graphics are quad-core. Its basically the A5 and probably 1GB RAM. Its NOT even new graphics, just the same graphics chip seen in the A5 x4.

No A6?

So iPhone 5 will have the A5X too???

I think i'll stay with my iPad 1 and maybe buy the next Macbook Air 11 inch (with OS X Mountain Lion) or a netbook for half the price of the iPad - 200 euros. Plus it can do so much more than iOS.

UK store still down

Annoying, as i have to crash now, as have to be up at 5 AM tomorrow.

Work...

Oh well, will probably have to try and order tomorrow...

iPad 2 Price Drop

So I just called the Apple Store here locally and the iPad 2 still reflects the old pricing when you get it in the store. Crap.....

Geez. That took forever to preorder. Took me about an hour of frequent refreshing and starting over between two browsers and the Apple App stores on my iPhone and iPad. Decided to get the 16gb WiFi. Just sold my iPad 2 about 2 hours ago on eBay for $400 and realized that I hardly used it and will probably do the same for this one. Space is negligible because of iCloud and I have a 4G LTE hotspot already that's on me all the time.

I'm really excited to see how the screen will look like. I read books on it right now and it's not too bad at all. But, with the enhanced screen it should really be really good.

Thanks, I'm on the "processing" screen, been on it for 10 minutes. Still haven't got a confirmation email, but the charge is on my debit card. So basically I'm in the door, right, right!? Lol, sorry... I'm on edge here :)

Thanks for the link anyway.

Edit: Just got the email! Good luck everyone, I think I just cut 5 years off of my life :p

I just cut $729 out of my wallet (plus tax and recycle fee).

No confirmation email here yet either, but considering it took about three hours to complete the order, I'm not holding my breath. Or at least I'm not holding it any longer.

Why is the UK STILL down. WTH is going on...some of us have to get to bed Apple!

New iPad name perfect

Far out, get over the name, 'new iPad' its not's like that its real name, people will call it the 3rd Gen iPad on sales site. How long can you go on about a product calling it 3,4,5,6,7 etc?

The naming convention is matching the computers. Down the track they will prob refer to it as iPad A5X or something as you do with MBA, MBP, iMac etc. Does anyone say iMac 8 or wherever they are up to ? no they dont.

Yeah, the naming is a bit interesting considering any update of their device is considered to be new. I wonder why it was named this or if it was just a place holder? What happens when the 4th generation is released, are they going to rename it? Or will that one be called newer than the new iPad?

There is much to see...

seriously.... I'm sooo unimpressed.

I think I set the bar too high. Just imagine this was really all for new screen and an updated chip.

nothing to see here folks, keep it moving.

I can imagine this is a very nice upgrade for those of us still using the original iPad.

Thanks for generalizing and assuming my needs.

Too many hits not enough servers. I wonder if they have separate farms for US and UK as I can place an order on the US store but obviously they won't deliver from there. Both stores use the same DNS hostname which points to the US if pinged from the UK.

you little beauty!

iShed a tear hearing and seeing the words "Retina Display". For 1mm, I guess I'll cope ;)

Did you post that in front of you MBP....or perhaps you MBP 5. Apple products have NEVER used numbers to describe them, why start now? iMac, Macbook, Mac Pro, Macbook Air, none have numbers and they exist without much drama...it will be ok, deep breaths...

The only reason I was a little shocked was because i thought the name was literally "The New iPad" and would be printed just like that on packaging and accessories. I have no problem with them dropping the number system, just thought that they were including "New" in the generation name.

UK being made to suffer

So why is the UK still down at nearly 11pm, store app just crashes and keep getting the post it note in my browser, US, Australia and Canada all seem to be up :(

Come on Apple Please
