After trying on the online store

I used my phone to order and it took no time at all, that online store was BOGGED down to say the least, glad its done now.

I just got a much more capable 32GB, quad core Android tablet, with IPS display that's the same price as more limited (in terms of usability) iPad.

Enjoy the crappy software.

And no parallel printer port? FAIL.

big trouble on the uk store, keeps giving error messages, tried to order 10 times with no luck. apple better not have charged my amex card for all these tries, ****ing morons

They only do a temporary charge of $1.00 most of the time, at least for me. After the order has been confirmed, they charge the purchase price. All of these are temporary/pending. Both (or any Apple charges) will "fall off" if they do aren't sold/shipped by Apple. You can cancel any order you have in your account in Apple store account.

So the US iPad has two LTE models, one to work with At&t and one for Verizon.

The UK store has a single model for LTE. Which one is that? A replica of the At&t one or the Verizon one or neither?

Finally got my order in for 16GB white with blue smart cover and camera kit. It took about two hours of refreshing the canadian store every few seconds after the keynote to finally get my order in. Can't wait for it to get here.Yay way to Go apple another fine product

MR, no love for the New iPad? ;)

Finally my order went through

Took me 4 hours to get my order through Apple Servers but I did it!
32GB black 4G Verizon! I had my doubts, because it never took that long for any of my preorders. I'm going to keep my iPad 2 this time, I just like it to much. But I can't wait for my New iPad, I've been waiting for a Retina display and that alone is worth it to me!
But I did miss Steve Jobs today, Tim Cook is great but no one will replace Steve Jobs!!! We Miss you S.J!!!:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

Ehh, only a hundred bucks off the iPad 2 isn't quite low enough for me considering the monsterly huge screen resolution difference.

If it was $200 cheaper I would gladly consider it and most likely would buy one.

I'm not trolling, but I've noticed something interesting about the responses Apple 'fanboys' give to various statements:

Android smartphones outsell iPhones: "It's quality over quantity guys. iPhones are the best."

iPad outsells Android tablets: "The iPad is the best, because so many more people buy it. Android tablets should just go away."

See what I'm gettin' at?

(Don't flame me: my dad preordered the 64GB Wi-Fi+4G new iPad just today! Plus I think iPads and iPhones are, after all, great machines.)

Very surprised at the lack of a front-facing HD camera (like those in an iMac or MBP). But then again, the MBA doesn't even have one. Hopefully it's still improved though!

EDIT- Also very surprised that it doesn't have Siri. While I never use it, I feel like I'd be more inclined to use it on an iPad than on my phone (giving commands to my phone in public is awkward in my opinion)

I'm also surprised! I thought it would be simple using the little 720p camera from the iPad 2 in the front, because that's all it really is (not just recording 720p, but only 720p resolution period).

About the Siri, I don't find it awkward using it at all in public, I hold it up like I'm talking to someone, and when I put the iPhone 4S in front of my face it knows I'm done with the request, works well for me.

On the iPad, I can see Siri being a bit more awkward being that it is never normal to hold an iPad to your ear. But I would have still like the full Siri functionality. Remember, it's the noise canceling technology in the iPhone 4S that makes it work well. I don't think the iPad has two microphones, much less two microphones well placed for optimal noise canceling.

Interesting... the new iPad specs say Airplay Video streaming at 1080p; but Airplay mirroring at only 720p. No 1080p Airplay mirroring?

I wonder if that's a limitation of the iPad or the ATV?

I don't know if anyone already answered this since I haven't gone through the entire 15 pages yet, but I suspect it is due to the iPad. The Apple TV 3 can obviously handle Airplayed video streams of 1080p, so the limiting factor must be that the iPad can't function and encode at the same time in anything over 720p. I'd expect the Macs with Mountain Lion to be able to Airplay 1080p content.

Does anyone else think that maybe Apple should implement a "virtual waiting room" for their online store on launch day the way sports teams often do when playoff tickets go on sale?

YES! Email Apple about it. Or fill out the Feedback forms for the Apple Store.

Took me 4 hours to get my order through Apple Servers but I did it!

It took me about an hour. When ever I pressed a button (like "Continue") I opened a new tab (by holding the command key) just in case an error happened, so I wouldn't have to start over. I just returned to my existing order tab and continued again. But when it came to actually paying (a new tab wouldn't open), it never failed, it did take a while, but never rejected my request and never asked me to start over.

It was much better than the experience I had with the iPhone 4S. I had to get up at 3AM, and it failed many times before going through around 7 AM. They even (eventually) put my order on reserve (about 2 hours after the servers couldn't handle the traffic) and asked me to come back later. So at least I didn't have to finish the order first thing and keep my place in line.

OK, I was never a big iPad fan...until NOW. I have always considered the XGA display to be inadequate for a true "computing" device, even back in 2010. This is the display that puts the iPad into a league of its own now even though I admit that I'm an Android tablet fan and former owner of the Transformer.

Bravo, Apple. Steve would have been proud.

Yes, what they announced is nice, but I think it's missing:
-a better front camera (after all, it's a shame to have such a high definition screen and still see people "blurry" when you talk ipad to iPad).

While an HD FaceTime camera would be nice, and while an 8 megapixel iSight camera like in the 4S would have been nice, to those in likely would have increased the cost of the iPad. Given how much hardware advances are given without a price hike, I think Apple was reasonable.

While this would be nice, perhaps Apple's servers can't add more Siri right now, who knows. But this is a software issue that is easily resolvable in the future. Let's hope when Siri comes out of Beta it'll be released to capable iPads.

-And just "something" to make it stand out, to make it exciting, to make it a must have...

I think most of us would say Retina display does this.

(and why not 299$ for the ipad 2? They would have eliminated all competition. A refurbished one should be 349$, though, but still..)

Apple has already eliminated all the competition. No need to cut prices even more.

This is the first time since 2007 I'm not fighting to get a pre-order in and it's kind of a relief. The new iPad looks awesome, but I'm gonna hold it down with my iPad 2 and see what the 4th gen has to offer. I am not all that interested in LTE for the iPad because I use it on wifi 100% of the time. The display looks great, so I will be missing that for a while- but that alone is not worth the upgrade for me. I NEVER ONCE have used the camera on my iPad so that's another no.

To be honest I am leaning pretty heavily toward a new apple TV box, they're looking pretty nice right now.
