Didn't seem too bad in regards to getting 14 Pro up and running. Though I did do a restore to 16.0.1 before trying to activate it/transfer.

Bought as unactivated/no carrier transfer.
1. Turn on and do a restore to 16.0.1
2. Used the Quick Start setup.
2. Activate (eSim) transfer, actually went smoothly just put phone next to each other and transferred service.
3. Skipped Face ID
4. Transferred data directly from iPhone to iPhone.
5. Wait 30 minutes and ready to go.

Haven't experienced any freezing or unusual behavior so far.
 
First that’s an excuse….second Apple has chosen to make things complicated. Hell iTunes was using mostly legacy code till a couple years ago…..20 years later.
I expect better from apple and when people just let stuff go and make excuses enables them to continue this garbage.
That’s the prerogative of the purchaser though.
 
I did not do a transfer using iCloud. I do not use iCloud. I restored from a local backup in iTunes, an iPhone backup that I’ve literally been maintaining since 2007. Thankfully everything seems to be okay on my 14 Pro Max as far as I can tell a day and a half in.

People here like to constantly talk smack about me still using iTunes for updates instead of OTA, and backups instead of iCloud; because “eeewwww that uses wires” and “that’s old!” But it’s increasingly proving itself to be the more reliable method of device management. Idk, keep enjoying the paid less secure/less functional alternative i guess.
You me both brother. I can’t fathom why Apple still refuses to use USB3 with lightning at the moment only to frustrate people into using wireless which is despicable to me. I miss the old, bloated iTunes. I miss storing ipa files because now when apps get pulled, when you restore apps from backup they restore. Why does everything need to be cloud this. Cloud that? I’m sick of the cloud. Hate the cloud. I will ever use it. Stop forcing us who don’t want to use it despite how you market it making our lives easier.
 
Ok this launch is officially a total —show…I remember the days when iPhones were damn near perfect out the box….day one….no patches needed.
That’s not true at all. The worst experiences ever were having to restore or set up a phone from iTunes. It would take hours upon hours and then be a crap shoot. Let’s stop romanticizing iPhones of years past - all you would have to do is look back on this site from years ago and see that your statement is simply untrue.
 
I didn't bother trying to do a transfer. Luckily, I didn't have to do a hard reset after updating iOS.
Verizon had me in a boot loop for about 7 hours. The 14PM would NOT activate.
We had to delete the esim data and find someone at Verizon should could get me to data to input the esim in manually. And that took SEVEN hours.
I also had to hook this phone up to my Mac mini and restore it twice before the new esim data even took hold.

And the customer support at Verizon said I wasn’t the only one having this issue. The dozen support agents a delt with all told me the same thing.

We had to delete the esim data and find someone at Verizon should could get me to data to input the esim in manually. And that took SEVEN hours.
I also had to hook this phone up to my Mac mini and restore it twice before the new esim data even took hold.

And the customer support at Verizon said I wasn’t the only one having this issue. The dozen support agents a delt with all told me the same thing.
“ Today is a mess, and it’s only iPhones “
That is horrible. Hopefully, the next experience will be much better for you.

I never had any issues thanks God.
But I could imagine what a frustration can be.
Ironically this is the first time I restored from iCloud in my life - I usually do a fresh set-up
 
Did mine in store from 13P to 14PM with an iCloud backup with no issues.

Girl next to me didn’t get a prompt saying “could not restore” but hers did hang up on the restore from iCloud. She ended up restarting device and doing the transfer from her old phone to new and it went fine.

That’s total nonsense. The chances of data becoming corrupt on a wire to wire transfer are about the same as wireless. And I can’t imagine why, in this day and age, anyone would want a 128 or 256K iPhone legacy backup on iTunes. And let me guess, when you set up your new computer you also did a wired transfer to the new computer? That’s incredibly inefficient too.
 
This happened to me in the store. A sales staff said this was the first time they saw it (understandable, I was 4th in line on launch day) and they did a force restart and it came up after without issue.

I didn’t have these issues. It could be i ordered the phone from apple as a Verizon phone. Yes it cost me $30 but maybe saved a bunch of headache so it was worth it.

But yeah, not a good experience.
 
After reading all those storys i am glad that i decided to wait for the 15. To me it sounds a little funny how peoples do respond to all the fails apple did with iphone 14. It's okay, It's new, it's working now after 20 hrs of trying... Hell - become men! I really think there will be a lawsuit for that. Step back and look how the situation actually is. Apple's softwareteam did a terrible job or - apple pushed them a lot because they want to sell it even undone. Iphone isn't a china android phone for 200 bucks. If you pay 1000, 2000 bucks for a phone it must be perfect from day one.
That logic is incredibly flawed. In a year there will be the same people writing “I’m glad that I decided to wait for the 16”. And in fact, you’ll see the same comment every single year going back about a decade. These things are consumer products, there might be issues - nothing is ever perfect. If you want a new phone, buy it. If you don’t, that’s fine too. But to believe that the “next” version will somehow magically be perfect, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.
 
My phone froze three times yesterday and it was incredibly frustrating. Each time, I was using navigation in Apple Maps and trying to drive at the same time. The individual apps were unresponsive, including Settings, Phone, and Maps, and force quitting each of them multiple times had no effect. I have never experienced this on any iPhone going back 15 years. Thought maybe my phone was defective but glad to hear it’s a known issue Apple is investigating. For all those here that said they haven’t had the issue, I wonder if it only presents when using Apple Maps for navigation, as that appears to be what triggered it for me.

Before the iPhone 4 they were damn near perfect. Anecdotally though the activation of my pro max was perfect. So there is that.
lets not forget how basic the first iphones/iOS were....its easy to make something very basic nearly perfect

Yep, got the black screen of death at the very end of data transfer from my temporary iPhone 7 to 14 Pro Max. Hard reboot and that sorted it.
 
The same logic should hold true for cars that have been manufactured for over 100 years. Unfortunately there are those pesky sample defects.
that's bull, bro. 100 years ago cars was very simple. today they have can-busses and software updates. remember one new car where many peoples standing in line at the cardealer for the same problems - around the country? not working at all... and we talk about s-class, not some littel cheap car...
 
Happened to my wife’s transfer from her 12 to 14pro. Had to do the volume up, down and hold the button for dear life and pray

With all due respect; you have no idea what you’re talking about. Data corruption is not the issue here. The entire back end process for backing up and restoring in iCloud is less reliable, less secure, and less useful. The one benefit it has is that it’s set-it-and-forget-it stupid easy, and runs by itself.
What in the world are are you referring to about wired transfers to new computers? I have never in my life seen someone try to migrate an entire OS installation from one PC to another using a USB cable. I don’t even think that’s possible.

iPhones have come a LONG way and are much more complex than they were 10-15 years ago.

Yes, but Apple also has a lot more money and resources, and testing and debugging tech has also advanced.

We can understand it, but we shouldn't excuse it.
