I definitely had issues. I did a transfer from device express setup, and I immediately upgraded to 16.0.1 after. Yet, my iMessage and FaceTime was still messed up. It wouldn’t let me set my phone as my FROM. On top of that, the device was not detecting the AppleCare plan.

I ended up forcing a software restore on my phone connected to the iMac. Then I restored from a password-set local backup. THEN, everything was fine.

I mean, I expect some nonsense, but this could have been better handled if the advice was “update your iOS software by connecting it to your computer BEFORE you try to setup and migrate.”

If my brand new iPhone would be making that rattling sound I would not be chill about it.

That's Luke Miani on Youtube. Seems like a decent guy from his videos. Of course getting a duff device isn't ideal for anyone however we need to remember that these are mass produced consumer level devices that are being assembled by underpaid/overworked factory workers in China. It's impossible to catch every faulty device in QC simply due to the numbers.

For faulty devices you have the 14 day return window or warranty to fall back on.

I work at an Orange boutique in France I can tell you something, I had so many issues with data transfers iPhone to iPhone and the mandatory update that leads to a « preparing to install » infinite screen that I am an expert now lol.

I have the solution for you: don’t transfer immediately; just launch the new iPhone and update it without transferring anything and then delete all content, then do it all over again with updated iOS and the transfer should work.🫵🏼 your welcome 🙏

He is not the only one. The rattling sound primarily seems to happen when the camera is used by third party apps.

Their business practices certainly do..
Launch weekend with a new apple device is always a little buggy nothing you can do . Just wait for the updates to roll out . My suggestion is to wait a month or two after the product launches . But if have to be the first to have the latest and Greatest then you must accept the minor bugs that’s comes.

I had trouble with phone-to-phone transfer. eSIM transfer went fine, and the whole process seem to seem to complete just fine (at least according to the old phone), but the screen on the iPhone 14 Pro Max went completely blank. It was only pressing on the screen and getting haptic feedback from where the virtual keyboard would be gave me indication that the thing was alive. I tried to reboot via conventional means, couldn't, so held down the side button for a minute and got the Apple logo and "iPhone Unavailable" message, after which I was prompted for my passcode and got back in.

Applied the 16.0.1 update, but found that the battery drain was so significant (more so than after a normal update when background processes do their indexing jobs) that I went to check on storage and saw that the total space used was 1Tb out of 1.02Tb and that was taken up by System Data. So I restarted the iPhone and went back in to check and saw the space being freed up again.

The Apple Watch stuff failed. The iPhone failed to establish a connection with the existing watch and in the end I had to perform a full erase of the watch and set it up again from scratch. Thankfully these devices don't store much and essentially mirror the settings from the iPhone. Still, a pain in the arse to be sure.

Everything has been fine since, and all data is there and it's been plain sailing (fingers crossed). Haven't encountered the wibbly camera problem so far, but then again, I don't use any third-party social media in-app camera feature (nor do I use Snapchat or TikTok overall).

Apple really need to up their game when it comes to software quality control.

can confirm that it happened to my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I got it from the Apple Store in Canada in order to have a SIM card slot.

I didn't really start transferring stuff until I got back into the US last night.

It worked fine with my US SIM card, but when I attempted to let it download everything from my iCloud back-up, the screen froze. I didn't want to mess with it, so I allowed it to sit there for almost an hour.

I restarted the process again and it froze again.

I almost freaked out because I thought that I was going to have to ship the phone back to Canada for service.

Glad to hear that Apple is aware of the issue... hopefully it's just a software glitch.

Imagine how this would have played out if it was a Samsung phone. Most of the Apple fans here would have been laughing their @$$es off. You'd think a company with the resources and money Apple has would be able to do some better QC and testing before sending their new phones out into the wild.

I'm still reeling from the Galaxy Note 5 battery issues. I'd have been a permanent Samsung customer had they not botched the battery on that device. I've only ever bought one Samsung phone since then - the Ultra 21, and even then I sold it after a few months and remain an iPhone user.

So many variables involved it’s unlikely that any release will be truly bug free. Fortunately my upgrade from 13 pm to 14 pm was free of issues.

lets not forget how basic the first iphones/iOS were....its easy to make something very basic nearly perfect
So with the complexity of todays software and hardware it’s easy to see not everything may be perfect 100% of the time.
that's bull, bro. 100 years ago cars was very simple. today they have can-busses and software updates. remember one new car where many peoples standing in line at the cardealer for the same problems - around the country? not working at all... and we talk about s-class, not some littel cheap car...
Same comment as above applies bro. Todays Software and hardware systems are complex. It’s possible to see regressions.

What is the best way to copy whatever I have on 13 Pro to 14 Pro?
The normal transfer still works… just don’t be surprised if the phone screen goes dark post transfer. Happened to me but a hard reset revived the phone with all my data being there.

You make it sound like the original iPhone was constructed out of sticks and leaves.

Apple has had 15 years to refine this process. Anything involving cloud with Apple is generally terrible.

The report is true. It happened to me. Apple Support, which is the best on Earth, fixed it … press up volume, press down volume, hold the big button on the right until the Apple Logo appears. Then the 14 Pro Max went through the normal steps, and all was fine.

Nothing to worry about.

I did not have any issues with the transfer, but it overheated while giving it the first full charge. Threw it on the AC vent grill, plugged it back in and it finished the charge. No issues since.

What apple needs to do is take a one-year (or at least a 6 month) break from the once-a-year intro of a new iOS. Especially as new phone owners essentially all become beta testers. Its completely unacceptable that even one iPhone should be bricked out of the box.

My iphone 14 pro max didn't freeze but the restore from icloud did take a long while Friday and really long time and the bar was progressing slowly.

On Friday morning, the quick data transfer from 13 pro to 14 pro went with no hick-up. Then I updated to ios 16.0.1 immediately afterwards with no problem either

Not me, the other poster.

A generalized statement such as the above is never true. I didn't have any issues updating, others didn't have any issues updating as well. (which is not to say 100% of the iphone 14 upgrading universe was problem free)

The best way in the past for me is doing a full backup of the old phone and then restore to the new phone with hard wire. However, it's so fk slow due to USB 2.0. I have spent probably 3 hours now in this whole process, and it's still only 25% done restoring.

I don’t understand the need to justify this.
