This is a ridiculous story and I can't believe the media frenzy it's causing. I really hope as a shareholder that Apple isn't involved in some kind of PR hoax. The announcement of the new iPhone is almost here - let's just relax and enjoy the anticipation, eh?

Woah... if this is true those Apple employees need to be charged. Impersonating a cop is a criminal offense. A former cop, of all people, knows that and I can't see a court treating that lightly.

The story is getting interesting but there isn't a lot of evidence. Just one guy's story so far. As an earlier poster commented, the man should have asked for a warrant regardless of whether he was guilty or not. And if they refused that's when you grab a camera. Evidence is key in this situation.

This is bad...

You better make sure the Chinese don't get their hands on that phone or we are all dead!

Isn't illegal to pretend to be a police officer? Doesn't sound like the smartest move on Apple's part.

yes... because apple is that stupid..... or... maybe an employee of theirs is to be held responsible. i and you should highly doubt that any company would sanction a federal offense on their behalf. really.

Here is what we are expected to believe:

1. An Apple employee left a valuable prototype in a bar... again.

2. Someone showed up at a guy's door, said "Hey Sergio, we're from the police, let us search your place"... and he just let them in.

3. A retired, 26-year veteran cop, either a. doesn't know that impersonating a police officer is a felony, or b. does know, but was stupid enough to leave his real name and phone number as evidence.

I could easily believe 1 of those... maybe 2, after a few drinks. But all 3? Something isn't right with this story.

I know right :p

Even the biggest Apple nuthugger can't approve of those tactics, if true.
You need to visit the AI forums and look up a certain jragosta (anyone from the old mac advocacy on usenet will remember good old joe-embarrassed all the old time Mac users back in the day). He's already excusing this as being a 'rogue' employee and Apple is not to blame.

whole account sounds fishy. i'm not looking to defend apple but when have 6 law enforcement officials ever all worn "badges" of some kind? the only time badges are clearly displayed is on beat cops. and why so many?

Thats because they were not real cops. Seriously, you don't think this could have happened? How did he make all this up? And if he did, don't you think the guy would have said "That is not true". Innocent people don't run and they don't delete their linkedin profiles. HA HA HA

High emotional intelligence? Just WTF does that mean? He has the ability to complete complex calculations while crying about his broken nail?
