I wish bigger screen didn't always mean Pro to Apple. I understand it, since it helps upsell people who like large screens to their most expensive Pro devices, but it's still frustrating. I wish there was going to be a 12" and 15" consumer-focused MacBook alongside their 13-14" and 16" MacBook Pros.

I would eat a 15" MacBook right up.

Edit: I just realized this is completely off-topic so I apologize for that. Just an anecdotal thought during the anticipation process for what will likely just be a 12" Apple Silicon MacBook.

I’ve always thought it would be neat to have a 13” and 15” MacBook (Air) and a 14” and 16” MacBook Pro.

The MacBooks (Airs) would have the the lower wattage processors and integrated GPU, and the MacBooks Pros would have the higher wattage processors and dedicated GPUs.
Memory and storage would follow the same patterns.

Edit: Yes, whoops, what AceFernalld said their edit.

Most excitingng thing since the Intel switch. Those were crazy days. Then I remember the rush to get a Windows emulator running, and the reward offered for it :D So funny. The point was to get Windows ‘semi‘ native. This time it would need to be total emulation i’m guessing. But this may work for low less cpu intensive stuff. Then again I haven’t a clue. But MS does have Windows running on ARM. I don’t know the details.

It would be a perfect time to structure their product line like this with the introduction of AS. It would be awesome. I just want the largest (or relatively close to the largest) laptop screen possible but honestly don't need the beefed up GPU and processor of the Pro models.

If Tuesday the 3rd wasn't election day, I might guess that will be the public announcement.

That way, the developers can be briefed on previously non-public aspects of the final hardware before preorders/shipping starts.

The U.S. is their primary market, and the election will be taking up a vast majority of the news cycle on the day of, the day after, and the day before. They will, in all likelihood, avoid that news week cycle entirely for the announcement of their event. They want a lot of attention for this, and it's going to be lost in the weeds if they try to compete with 'the most important election of all time.'
You're right: Apple will announce the 10 November event this Friday, when they release the Big Sur GM.

When Big Sur hits the streets I can't wait for the posts stating "I'm pissed at Apple because I thought I could run Bootcamp on Big Sur!"
Anyone that would even post on a forum with that rant would know that Big Sur doesn't support BootCamp Windows.
Big Sur will support BootCamp. It's only the new Apple Silicon macs that will not support it.

Maybe what will happen in November along with the MacBook Pro 16" update, is that Apple will be providing a quarterly update to their transition progress with Apple Silicon with software demonstrations derived from one-on-one appointments mention in the OP of this topic.

Show us something more then a A12Z DTK Mac Mini demos.

I doubt Apple would see the election as a deterrent for an event. To vote only takes half an hour (now maybe more because of covid), so I think people will have plenty of time to enjoy the event. And lets not forget that most users are from outside the US.
Apple is not going to announce anything until after the election.

And half an hour? Seriously? Half a day would be closer to reality for most people.

This will be my first Mac It will be so nice to finally get a modern computer after decades of stagnation in the personal computer space.

Prepare to be disappointed because this won't be a massive leap from what you've been using, at least initially.

14" AS Macbookpro all the way.

if they release a 12" macbook I will actually be shocked [and disapointed as usual]. We will see..... really looking forward to this as it is going to be a gamechanger for laptops, as the ipad already proves. Just less heat and fans will make me happy.

Replace Big Sur with Apple Silicon and then you’ve got a correct statement. Big Sur (and likely future OS releases) still support Bootcamp on Intel-based Macs.
This. I hope Apple makes it perfectly clear that their basiclly dropping windows support. I can see people later on bitch “I thought apple silicon was just another name for in house intel CPU’s.

I hadn't really considered the 14" model; I've been thinking it would be a new 12" or 13" Air. But since the 11" & 12.9" iPad Pros with Magic keyboards are almost laptops anyway (and the new iPad Air) maybe they will release the long rumored 14" with the new Apple Silicon... that would be sweet! Regardless of size though, I will most likely buy whatever it is. I've been a computer consultant for 25 years and I look forward to playing with/beta-testing new mac stuff.

Invitation to the previous event were sent 7 days before the actual keynote, so if by November 3rd we don’t get an invitation then the 17th is a more plausible date.
Very unlikely to be an invitation on November 3rd due to the noise around the US elections. Invitation on the 10th, event on the 17th...Assuming civil war hasn't broken out....

While I for one am excited about the new macs, I still have guarded optimism especially for the first batch and year or two while developers and Apple work out the kinks. I'll wait and see how it goes and jump in when things look stable. I sold my MacBook in anticipation of the eventual repurchase of one that has an Apple chip in it. For now the iPad Pro with a MK is meeting most of my on the go needs out of a "laptop". I look forward to reading the stories on here from early adopters.
