Apple Invites Media to 'Hello Again' October 27th Mac-Centric Event

I really really hope that the rumored wider, pressure-sensitive trackpad will have Apple Pencil support. As a graphic designer, this will blow my mind more than the OLED strip.

I really hope we don't lose the USB-A port. Would I have to carry a bag of dongles just to offload files to somebody on a thumb drive before they hop on an airplane?
That's something I do while working on location with audio files.

Just like to point out that the photos used in the invitation is from LGs marketing for their OLED displays.

To references it, google Philips OLED TV and you will see that exact frame :)

Can you link to the image? I did find similar images of "color powder explosion" but not that exact frame.

Can we expect new ipod touch?

No.

Complete chassis redesigns, some kind of unforeseen new control interface to combat touch screens on Windows laptops, thinner/lighter laptops with less ports. This is pure speculation but it would be BRILLIANT if Apple creates an ARM version of Mac OS X and includes both an ARM SoC and a full Intel platform to handle all the current apps to ease a transition. Or it'd be brilliant in my mind since I thought of it ;).

Really though, imagine the performance and power efficiency Apple could get out of an ARM SoC with a battery like those found in the MacBook Pro/Air. This would be a game-changer. These computers would be incredibly smooth, efficient, and last forever.

I'm still using mine, and it's still awesome (less the battery, which sucks, and the screen). All these people who keep writing things like "time to replace my 2012 laptop!" make me worried: will any replacement ever be the stable workhorse that matches this one? Am I about to spend $1600 to downgrade?

Geez, no kidding man (2012 laptop).

It's the best tech investment I've ever made, by far, and pretty much guarantees it's replacement will come from Apple.

For kicks, I looked up the battery sizes of the iPhone 7 and current 15" rMBP and considering that there's over a 1000% size difference if the display is efficient enough (PLEASE BE OLED) insane battery life would be possible if the Mac used an ARM SoC. We're talking battery life that can last a power user a week or more.

If the screen itself is actually OLED, that will be only for a select premium version since supplies are said to be strained? But then if it was too select, they wouldnt use it in the main marketing of the event. Hmm...

Finally, for christ's sake, my mid 2009 MBP is dying for few months... i so need a new one!

I'm always amazed and impressed when I hear of people holding onto Macs for so long and long after much better ones come out. To skip the whole lighter, retina, SSD generation for 4 and a half years takes some special willpower!

But then I think I value technology more than most and probably more than I should.

I wanted to get a new one for over 2 years, but the better one was supposed to come, it was always just around the corner... XD

Usually i get every 3-4 Years a new, but i got 4 years ago a gaming PC ^^.

Wondering if a refreshed MacBook Air and Pro will also include a price drop of the rMB. Price drop of about 15-20% for the MacBook would be enough to make me ditch my 2012 cMBP, but if the refreshed Air is provocative enough, I might go that route instead.

You just described me as well haha. I usually won't even let the mid cycle updates go without jumping on them, like the small processor bumps and ram updates on the Air and Pro. Sell/Re Buy. That being said, it is becoming less critical now that everything has become so quick. Assuming the computers are similar to the renderings, I am going to try to hang on to this next one for a while.

Watch straps are getting twitchy. With the thought of this being a Mac only event...lets all hope we get some killer hardware ;)

Like an iPad Pro?

Totally agree..still on my 2012 rMac Book Pro. No need to upgrade yet.

hello (again) clearly indicates they're about to unleash something Apple thinks will be monumental like the first Mac and iMac were. So what's the next step then?

Lets take a look at the background of the Apple logo...

Space and smoke...or is that clouds?
What is infinte? Space. What can (theoretically) provide infinite storage space (at a premium of course)? iCloud?

Next generation MacBook Air - make it an A series processor with Cloud based...everything....

Tim has repeatedly told us the future is wireless, as in separation from anything physical. We've all seen quite a few articles speculating Apple is looking at services as a bigger and bigger chunk of their revenue. Apple services = iCloud. What's a (theoretical) way to drive even more people to the cloud? A Cloud-based Mac. The logical evolution of the MacBook Air?

Just throwing some thoughts out there.

Not that I'd want that but hey, I haven't seen any other interpretations of the image LOL.....

Ok, so I can throw away the various Magsafe power adapters I have at home and at work (and I lose a USB-C port while charging), I have to buy a bunch of SD-card adapters (I'm a photographer), the keyboard sucks (sold my Macbook because the keyboard gave me hand cramps - felt like typing on a piece of wood) and the Macbook Pro will look like a Swiss army knife with diarrhoea due to all the adapters needed for pro use (hence the name, right?)

So Cook has managed to mess up the Macbook Pro line as well - congratulations Apple, Nadella will be going to bed with a smile stretching from his left butt cheek all the way across his head down to his right butt cheek.

ps: Macbook Air with a 5-year-old display? yeah, sure :) That'll even make HP smile
