2. Doubtful. Increase in resolution comes at a cost of performance and battery life. And Apple is not in a specs race, so they will stop the resolution at what they feel is good enough and give preference to performance and battery life. And the Retina resolution is good enough. Besides, a new increase would either make the UI smaller or developers will have to come up with new graphics for every rasterized asset (both bad). In other words, a lot of work for only a minor perceptible difference with lots of tradeoffs. Almost certainly not. PC manufacturers just cram 4K displays into laptop screens. Also, a 4K display on a 15" laptop is around 280ppi vs MacBooks 220ppi. The difference is hardly perceivable even at close inspection. It just sounds better :)
ome, it's just that there certainly aren't that many).

People have found assets at 3x resolution in macOS so I think it might be a higher resolution panel

That would surprise me - but who knows. I still am fairly certain there won't be change in the resolution - but hey, I'm not Apple.

Windows 10 is more feature rich, and stable then Mac OS. I know there's many apple fans here that hate windows so much that they refuse to acknowledge that, but for many people, its a solid product.

One size doesn't fit all, so if you don't like windows, that's your choice but that doesn't diminish its features or stability
I prefer macOS for basically everything other playing games. I'd be happy to do the gaming in macOS as well if the performance was as good.

I've used all of them (Linux, windows, mac) quite a bit and simply find myself most comfortable in the mac.

More on the topic I find it odd if there's nothing but the MBP. Seems a bit overblown to have an event for that. I'm hoping for something dramatic in the desktop side.

The same. And once you get used to certain things, it's really hard to go back. The quick look spacebar feature that opens almost everything (heck, it even previews 3D OBJ files!). File icons that preview content for non-basic files like PSD. The spotlight search. The region screen capture built in. Tags in Finder. Smart folders. Gestures. List of "little things" goes on - and all that on top of what I consider a more stable and better performing system.

And the 3rd party apps for macOS are almost always better, more beautiful, more useful. I tried to find something like Alfred, Fantastical, Hazel, DaisyDisk etc. on Windows to use them at work - no luck. Even the multi-platform apps like Evernote or Slack are designed better on the Mac.

And last but not least, in my opinion, macOS is much more pleasant to look at than Win 10. I like the modern Windows design, but the stark colors and sharp angles become tiring after hours of staring at the screen.

Honestly - everything except gaming is better on the Mac - for me, at least. YMMV.

While I'm still excited to see this event, I'm not getting my hopes up. I don't think thinner, USB-C, and a Magic Toolbar doesn't seems like much. I hope we actually see some "innovation".

Well, first of all, you don't become a king by being elected. But, that's beside the point - I am certainly not a king of anything and I do not have the right (nor would I want to) to decide who should be here and who shouldn't. I do, however, have the right to ask questions, politely. And my question is, as you have quoted - 'why are you here?'. And by that I mean: if you (not you, personally, but anyone here who has such strong negative sentiments) dislike Apple's approach so much and want them to do something we know they are not going to do - then why stick around?

It's one thing to be critical. Every company makes mistakes and it's good to point them out. And you don't have to like everything Apple does. But when you read the posts here - people don't have issues with certain changes, or a certain product, or even a whole generation of products - they have such negative feelings towards some of Apple's core ideals.

Asking for Apple to make a thicker computer with user accessible parts is like asking Bob Dylan to do electronic music, because you prefer that type of sound - and then going nuts when Bob does the same thing he's been doing for the last 50 years. Do you have to like Dylan's music? Of course not. Go listen to whatever you want. But why come to a Bob Dylan forum and complain he is obsessed with lyrics too much?

This is why I asked what I asked. And this is why I suggest people move on. If you like it here, by all means - enjoy your stay. But people asking Apple to put macOS on iPads or to make Macs with a touchscreen, people asking for user accessible parts, people asking for more complexity in computing - they are just setting themselves up for frustration. And, honestly, they are making this place a lot less fun for the rest of us.

It's not like Apple suddenly became obsessed with design. It's not like they suddenly decided to make things thinner. Look at some of the ads for the first iPod here on Macrumors - even 15 years ago, one of the first things they said was "....with such a THIN 5Gb drive" and how it's "simple and fun". They ALWAYS wanted to make a thinner, lighter, more simple product that looks beautiful. Whatever they announce on the 27th - it's going to be thinner and more simple (meaning less ports - until one day they make a Mac without any ports). And when will this obsession end? What is thin and light and simple enough? Well, when they reach invisibility. I'm serious. One day, when they are able to put computing abilities in our hands without us actually seing the computer - perhaps it will be on our wrist, perhaps hidden in the walls of our homes or inside our cars - then it will be 'enough'. They are on the path towards the ultimate unobtrusive computing. And they were on this path from the day Steve Jobs came back to the company.

At the same time, there are alternatives. There are companies who say - we're gonna make it bigger and more badass! With more things. With more ports, more drives, more customizability. And you know what - sometimes you need that. Nothing wrong with that. So - something for everyone. So why all the negativity, when you clearly have alternatives? (The "why are you here" question).

For me, I need focus. I respect a company that understand focus - and end goals. Apple, in my opinion, is all about the end goal. I am an illustrator. I want to be able to create illustrations. This is my goal. It's not to use this type of CPU or the other - it's to create illustrations. If I could do it with air, I would, but as it is - I require tools. My process, currently, requires computers that can run Photoshop, Zbrush, Illustrator, etc. But my GOAL is not usage of these programs per se - it's the creation of things. I trust Apple to always make the tools for me to do my work. But if one day, I am unable to create my work with Apple products - I will not change my goals, I will change my tools. I'll get something else. All I know is that people won't stop making art and there will always be tools for making art - so I'm not worried so much in the long run. For now, Apple is making the tools I want. In fact - they make the best tools for me. And I like to discuss these tools with likeminded people. Get advice. Ask questions. I also like to contribute - if I know something, I like to share it. I type these long posts taking the time to answer what I can - and I am grateful when someone answers my questions. Sometimes I come for fun - reading about other people's experiences. But lately, I come here and all I see is that I am somehow a sheep, a follower of a cult for idiots, led by the worst CEO in the universe, Tim Cook. It's.... tiring.

I'm not the king of this thread, as you pointed out. I have no right to choose what people want to talk about, and I would never forbid anyone from expressing their views. What I can do is ask, though. So I'm asking everyone who thinks Apple is a joke to - leave this place. Please?

Just asking.
Yep, that's it. Finally someone who understands. I just made an account to upvote and reply. We are actually so lucky for having two so different yet so focused in a specific goal companies that make great products, of course making lots of mistakes along the way, but always pushing towards their vision. And the best thing is one can choose which one to support depending on their needs! Yet sometimes it seems people forget that...

Thanks!

And yes. I think we live in exciting times, when it comes to technology. As an illustrator - things are far from perfect, but they have never been better. I believe this is the case with other professions, as well.

At the same time, there never was a time with more people criticizing, well, almost everything. "Everything sucks" attitude seems to be everywhere.

I hope we get faster, more powerful MacBooks with better screens that are easier to carry. And that's what we'll get. Innovation doesn't need to be flashy, or just for sake of itself.

Not a fan of the no MagSafe and no-SD Card Slot rumours.

Agreed. I like the magsafe plug on my MBA. I recently put a MSD card into it to increase storage an additional 128GB. I may just buy a 2015 MBP instead once the price drops a bit with the 2016 model comes out. I don't feel like using USB-C dongles/adapters for all the stuff I have with current USB plugs.

To al the people who visit the event : if Apple introduces MacBooks with flatter keys, let's all boo them. A good notebook needs a good keyboard.

I considered selling my 13" MBP for the Macbook specifically to get the butterfly keyboard.

All of this keyboard hysteria reminds me of the switch to chiclet keyboard. You would have thought the world had ended with the complaining people were doing...yet after just a year or two they became the standard everything else was held to.

can't wait to see what color watch bands are coming out this year!

I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but there are not going to be any new Watch band colours this year. I know, I know, Apple has never been closer to the abyss than this...

A good notebook needs a good keyboard.

And by good keyboard you can mean nothing less than the IBM Model M. Of which each key is taller than a MacBook Pro.

I know it won't happen, but I really want a touch screen. MacOS + touch sounds amazing. I've been slowly leaving apple for competitors. I prefer MacOS, but its just losing the ability to do all that I need. My only connection with Apple now is the iPhone. They make the best phones period. I went to android for a year, and was not impressed. I feel the decision to not merge macOS with iOS is a mistake.

Can you do me a favor? Try one of the older keyboards (MacBook Pro early 2008) and type on it for a while. Then honestly tell me what you think. I think you might like it better. Way more feedback. A MacBook Pro does not have to be 3mm thin.

I had a G4 for two years. I adapt quickly, and in just the 5 minutes I spent with the Macbook I came to prefer those keys over my MBP. Styles change, if anything the larger keys on the MB make it easier to use. I'm a light typer though, I've found that people who type heavily tend to prefer more travel.

Agreed, that was by far the best keyboard

True story: My youngest son (16yo) keeps reading just this on the Interwebs. He demands a mechanical keyboard. Everybody is apparently raving about them. I happily oblige and pull a Model M off the shelf and hand it to him. It has a PS/2 connector so I give him the USB-PS/2 converter, too. For the rest of the evening I hear him clicking away at his new acquisition. Great, I think, now I can tell whether he's gone to bed or staying up late.

The next day – silence. I pay a visit to his room to check what's going on, lo and behold he's typing on his old Apple keyboard. He makes up excuses (too noisy, missing volume keys, etc.). I get it. But I'm glad he got this out of his system.

Don't you think Apple knows that? If they are willing to throw away one of the biggest selling points of their laptop, I am sure Apple has a very good reason for wanting to do it.

And you are so sure of this, how?? They keep on making bad decisions, so I'd rather use the demonstrable evidence then your opinion.

Well, for all the whining and criticism made over the removal of the headphone jack on the iPhone 7 over the year, actual backlash from the people actually buying them was decidedly muted. The general populace simply didn't care. The iPhone is still in back order and demonstrated short supply.

I expect the same thing for the new MacBooks. This just goes to show that the opinions and viewpoints here are not representative of the sentiments and needs and wants of the overall user market.

Let people here whine all they want. It's not going to stop the MacBook from selling. We will move on towards the future, with or without the whiners and the complainers here.

Again, the demonstrable evidence shows that magsafe is better than not. Instead of pivoting and general ad hom, you could try to make an actual counterargument.

Which I have already did a few pages back.

USB C lets you do data, display and power over a single port. MagSafe makes zero sense in this context. Imagine plugging that new LG display into your Macbook. Do you really want the cable being disconnected at the slightest tug and interrupting your data transfers and display feeds?

By itself, MagSafe is undeniably better compared if the only job required was charging. But when you look at the purpose of USB C in its entirety and how the main selling point is to let you consolidate several functions into one cable, it makes no sense to dedicate an entire port solely for charging.

MagSafe is an impressive piece of technology, but also an outdated concept, and has no place in Apple's vision of the future of computers where you can get everything done over one cable.

Can you trip over that cable and make the computer go flying? Yes? Then your argument fails!
