I want one and I don't know anything about them!!!

If the rumors are true and the new MacBooks are to sport an Nvidia chip, why would you buy a Mini? All you have to do is plug a monitor into your MacBook and your have a desktop machine that would be way better than the Mini. You'd have a great desktop and a portable for on the go. If they put a dedicated graphics card in the MacBook then I think the Mini is dead. I see no reason to put a dedicated graphics card in the Mini. They'd cannibalize their iMac/MacBook sales.

I think the Mini will just go away with no mention by Apple. Kind of like the iPod Hi-Fi. Now you see it, now you don't. The Mini was supposed to be a super cheap Mac for people that wanted to make the switch but didn't want to invest a grand in a new platform that they may not like. So it was a way of getting PC users to switch for as little cash as possible. And sure, you could get your feet wet for $499. That's a good price. But then they went Intel and the price went up to $599. Now add an Nvidia card, $699? Suddenly, that "under $500 Mac" isn't so cheap any more. In fact, it's not that much cheaper than the supposed new $800 MacBook. And we all know Apple loves selling MacBooks.

The reason I want a Mini is because I already have a very nice Macbook, but I am also lumbered with an older PC that my wife is still clinging too. We already have a nice display so we don't want to shell out for an iMac. I would rather get a Mini but the current one is hopelessly outdated. While a $800 Macbook may be nice, I am sure that at this price point it will be a bare bones machine (for an Apple anyway) plus why pay for a display when I do not need it?

:)

The pic was taken with a Sony Ericsson Z310a on August 8, 2008. Is it possible that Apple had a final enough design for the enclosure as far back as August 8? And who on the Apple campus would be using a Sony Ericsson phone :p

I'm definitely not arguing that it's real, but couldn't they have had the basic concept and just been working on different ads or whatever?

I finally made it to the end of these posts!

Anyways, I'm excited that the rumors were true. I'm not in the market far a laptop, though. I'm waiting for the 'The Spotlight Turns to iMac" invite...

HDMI is just DVI with sound i believe, ACD doesn't have speakers.....

That's true, however, you can't find a $10 DVI cable at Walmart. People just want the HDMI to be able to easily and cheaply connect it to a TV.

Birthday Present for me here it comes :D

Well, maybe if I really can convince myself that I need a newer one. As long as the base model is the same price as is today I will be happy.

Sod the iMac, I want to see a Cinema Display update.

Apple will soon be the only company in the world manufacturing monitors branded "HD" without an HDMI slot. No forgiveness from me for that.

Why would a computer monitor need a HDMI slot?

Blue ray!

Ok, stick with me for a minute....

the spotLIGHT turns to notebooks. how does light travel...IN RAYS, whats in the picture. A RAY of light. We are getting blue ray!!

Anyone? Is this thing on?

Like George Costanza said once on Seinfeld; "I'm speechless. Speechless. I am without speech. I have NO speech." (Or was it Elaine?)

Can't wait for Tuesday (;

No it's not, for a bunch of reasons.

I'll cut to a quick one - copyright protection. And no speakers isn't a reason when you have seperate Audio Out on 99% of AV equipment (you think I'd use a £1300 monitor to view Xbox games on when I have a 50" 1080p TV that cost less? - this is for creative work, the prima market that fed Apple for decades before flipping iPod). I do a lot of video editing and have to use a 24" BenQ (which has had HDMI for 2 years and costs almost half of an Apple 24").

Nice to see the October 14th date hold. I was really getting worried. A $999 MacBook I can believe, a $799 MacBook I can't believe in. I just hope I can buy one on the 14th and don't have to wait a couple of weeks.

well here we are, then. can't wait until the 14th. i just hope the MB's won't go aluminum, though that hope is fading. the wifi reception sucks compared to plastic casing.
