Apple Invites Media to 'Notebook' Event October 14th

Good point, perhaps a sub notebook, or even major major changes to current models :p

Mini , definitely new Mini ...but with new notebooks at $800 .... a more beefy Mini is coming soon me thinks

UK resident here, finally the news we have all been waiting for.
Do you guys think the back to school promo in the UK will run with the new notebooks or do you think apple will stall the full release until this promo has finished????

Would be pretty cool for UK students to get the new macbook along with a (almost) free ipod nano.

Discuss.
 
Lurker just registered. Just gotta say... THANK YOU!!! I've been waiting since may. Almost purchased in may, but there was a rumor for june, then august, then september. Now FINALLY it looks like the notebooks will be updated.

I am rocking a powerbook G4 1.0 Ghz with 512 ram. Even though it's still chugging along, it's a little sluggish and I need an upgrade. Seriously, i've spilled cheap wine all over the keyboard and had to get the insides cleaned out. I've later spilled soda on my keyboard and a few keys stick. The case seams are starting to fill in with dirty blackness. My display hinge broke and is being held together by a glass cabinet door holder/hinge. lol.

Ahhh love the old stories of the G4, seen many a bodge holding these together, they still refuse to stop working!

The new models will come with a LED-backlit display and is expected to sell at an aggressive entry-level price point.

Also, reports suggest that Apple might do the final assembly of the product in-house. This means Apple is all set to get in the business of manufacturing notebooks. Till now the manufacturing process of MacBook was outsourced to Chinese or Taiwanese manufacturers like Foxconn. But, now it seems Apple is in charge.

The new process is expected to make design changes faster and reduce costing. Experts say it would not require bending of the metal and even eliminates the need for screws to hold the case together. In fact these models are expected to be unlike any notebook available in the market in appearance and design. Seems like a good Jobs, all over again!

Long time listener, first time caller. I became a member here when I first switched to Mac 3 years ago and bought the last iBook, and have been an avid reader ever since. But I must note that I have never seen this much activity and excitement in all that time. It is refreshing. Anyway, my one newbie question is as follows.

I have heard people mentioning black aluminum as a possibility. Is there the possibility of white aluminum? I love my white iBook!!

That's what the ratio is now, and despite what some people have been posting, I can't possibly see them changing that to 16:9. 16:10 is the desktop standard, not 16:9. 16:9, while great for TV's, is just too wide, IMO, for a desktop, and starts to affect functionality.

Considering the rumor from multiple sources on multiple forums that Ingram Micro has been filling up with crates of notebooks, I think it will be immediate, at least for the MB and MBPro. Now if there is a one more thing, that could be a preorder.

It ALMOST looks black, but I'm guessing that's just the shadow. Zomg, this rules.

I am glad I waited. I have had my 12" G4 1.5gz for 39 months now, waiting for a aluminum apple under 15". Hopefully, my wish has finally come true.
