One word. One word.

PWNED

First rumors gave us hope for October 14.
Then a rumor partly dashed those hopes.
Then the lack of an invite on Tuesday blew most hopes of an event and reduced the likelihood of updates on the 14th.
Now... NOW...
...here it comes!

An event for hardware either points to a lot of hardware (ties in with the purported price list) or secret software (iLife? iWork?).

And by the way, if nobody's brought this up, the aspect ratio of the case appears to be about 1.5:1 (it's hard to get the exact measurements), which seems to point to 16:10.

Finally! YAY!
Now just have to see what each has to offer before I decide which one to take the plunge on!
The wait is finally paying off.... 10 freaking months!
Yeah. it would be nice if we had specs so we could figure out exactly what options we wanted before heading to the store. I'm sure the subway trip on the way to the store will be enough time though ;)

OMG guys come on keep your pants on. it's clearly a fake can't you tell the way the light shines that light had to be photoshoped. and someone could have easily made up some fake invitations and sent them out to Engadget. come on guys there has been so many of these already we should learn by now :D

but seriously I hope it's more then just the macbooks. I'll be quite sad if there is no MBP at this event.
i woudl expect a MBP especially after that photo of the MBP got leaked yesterday.;)

BAD NEWS: We have to wait 5 days!
I hear you on that one. It would be perfect if they came out today giving me time over the weekend to get everything installed.

are you sure they are coming out with a quad core macbook pro?
No. It would be a nice if the high-end MBPs had it though but if they are making the MBP thinner I doubt it. We'll find out soon enough.

If they don't offer 16 GB Ram with 1 TB hard drive and Blu-Ray burning I'm going back to Dell
 Good luck with that.

Core i7 / Nehalem please !!
 Try late next year.

It's so sad reading this thread, you people really need to get life, it's just a laptop

Matt
 I need to put my Hater Blockers on. That is funny coming from someone that is a 'regular'. You have more posts than most people in this thread. I guess you aren't in the market for a new laptop but I have been waiting for a MBP for a long time. My patience has paid off and I think a lot of people are very excited.

Who posted a "negative" on this? Seriously, there should be nothing but positives here.

Not everyone wants laptops. The Mac mini hasn't been updated in 429 days, the Mac Pro in 275 days. We also don't want built-in screens so the iMacs and all laptops are out of the question.

The Mac mini still has an intel GMA950 GPU. It was already obsolete when intel started to use it over 2.5 years ago. The Mac mini needs to be updated or replaced by something similar. And if there is now a MacBook for 800$, I hope Apple will have a Mac nano or something for around 400$.

Signifigance?

I apologize if someone has already has this insight. There are a ton of post to this forum and I just couldn't read all of them.

*The Spotlight is a semi focused beam of light, this could indicate lasers.
*The word turn could indicate a manufacturing process; when you "Turn" something it typically referres to cutting or grinding something down.
*And of course "Notebooks" means they could be leading us to believe that they will be using Lasers to cut new these machines out during manufacturing.

Just my two cents. ;-)

Engadget posts the invite for the Apple media event which will take place on October 14th in San Francisco. The invite simply reads:Apple has been rumored to be delivering new MacBooks and new MacBook Pros this month. A number of leaked photos have been circulating.

Haven't whined at all but, now that it's been announced, I have been looking forward to this event for so long. I'm glad I finally had the patience to wait instead of buying a new Mac the week before the even gets announced.
I am already practicing my Yoga deep breathing in calm anticipation...

This is truly a wonderful moment for me. I am planning on getting a MacBook Pro soon [which should've happened a while ago].

I have been following the rumors on MacRumors and have subscribed to AppleInside and 9to5, and it looks like now October 14 is the way to go!

Hey guys.

Has anyone else noticed on the invitation - the top two corners are rounded, almost like a trackpad?

Notice that the areas outside of the rounded area are silver, ie, aluminum, with the inside being a dark black, meaning perhaps glass.

Apple invites typically have a rounded top and flat bottom.

Where are the Mac Pro's?

I know I know, I have been a long time notebook user myself, but I think it is time to REALLY upgrade! I know Apple Inc. has never really had a media event surrounding the Mac Pro's, as they more or less just release them in the background... Any ideas? I know it has been close to 300 days since the last release... Average is like 220 days...

The fact of the matter is that the Mac Pro is an INCREDIBLY powerful machine - even close to 300 days since its last release. Eight cores, what is it - 32 gigs of RAM max... with the Mac Pro Apple can afford not to update it for long periods of time.

Somehow they took something that we were ALL expecting, and STILL completely surprised us!

Sending the invites on the Thursday before is either INGENIOUS or a very effective mistake!

Amen

Amen, well said. I don't need a laptop with any more power than my macbook because I do high end HDV editing, so I need a powerful desktop. I want a macpro but I don't want to buy one now since it has been so long since an update. I'm just glad I don't want a mini, then I'd be pretty furious. :)

Anyone wonder why the spotlight beam is so narrow?

I mean, usually spot light beams begin wide and then narrow down to a certain point. This one is really narrow and straightforward. And while we're talking about symbolism and signficance, what do you think this could mean?

They don't want to show the WHOLE thing before the event happens.

That's why.

Usually there's not much to look into with the invites. There aren't subtle meanings. The most abstract they've been was with the AIR.

just in case you missed it

black keyboard?

go on, beat that meat!

actually that's quite a rubbish mockup
At least, I hope it's a mockup...

You'll be waiting a looooooooooong time.

Um, the LAST Mac Pro update took 512 days. I know. I waited over a year for the 2008 Mac Pro before I bought.

Don't hold your breath. The Buyer's Guide on here is wrong about the Mac Pro update. They included some minor spec change as an update.

Availability

Hello,

I am new to Mac world and rules. Is announcement date (oct 14) also availability date? If not, what is the apporixmate waiting time from announcement to release time?

Thanks,

David

I don't have the graphics software I would need where I am now. Has anyone scaled a current MB or MBP based on the apple logo on the back, overlaid it on the invitation, and determined the size of the notebook in the invite?

I measured the Apple logo on a MB and MBP here at the office. 47mm from lowest part of the apple to the tip of the leaf on both.

Apply that scale to the photo it puts the case at 13.07" wide and 8.7" tall.

Compare that to the current MB and MBP specs:
MB
Width:
12.78 inches (32.5 cm)
Depth:
8.92 inches (22.7 cm)

MBP
Width:
14.1 inches (35.7 cm)
Depth:
9.6 inches (24.3 cm)

Who posted a "negative" on this? Seriously, there should be nothing but positives here.

Since this has been asked about 15 times now (how dare someone be negative about anthing Apple! The heretic!) I'll make a few guesses:

  • Someone who was hoping for (Some other Apple product) to be updated instead
  • Someone who is making assumptions about what is or isn't included (e.g. Firewire)
  • Someone who thought they left the event announcement a bit late
  • Someone who is rating the thread itself rather than the article (20+ pages of "Finally!" and "Whoop whoop" aren't exactly insightful I guess)
  • Someone who hit the wrong button
  • Someone who clicked negative just for laughs / to be different
  • A PC/Windows fan who happened to be passing by

... okay I'm bored of thinking them up now :p
