Everybody and their mother wants a 12". Sad thing is Apple killed the 12" notebook because anything Apple does everybody has to follow. Now 13.3" is standard. :(

Nah, I'd bet the switch to Intel was pretty big. Although, admittedly, the membership of MR has grown quite a bit since then. Maybe the announcement of the iPhone - things were still somewhat secretive back then so there was a lot to talk/b!tch about.

I decided to dig into the archives and look.....

The iPhone thread barely broke 1k:

I would venture to say that Apple is gonna shift focus (spotlight) to Notebooks even more then they have...meaning a Sub $1k notebook is coming.

That also means either they drop the Mac Mini, or Mac Mini will have to wait 1.5 years since it's last update (August 2007, gonna wait until MacWorld 2009).

It's good to hear Apple is still committed to the Mac...I thought they were just making iPhones these days.

You have to keep in mind all the "splinter" discussions that come out of major announcements.
The switch to Intel had a lot more than this discussion.

But man thanks for reminding me of the day I got that Mac Pro case with an Intel CPU inside. The Developer Transition Kit.

I looked in there and said Whoa!

Fun times..

Any UK members care to hazard a guess to the price of the base model in the UK?

If rumours are correct, then the US is going to see the new model starting at $300 dollars less than current $1099 macbook.

In the UK the base model is currently £699 so I would think the best we can hope for is £549 but more likely £599. Any thoughts?

well, after spending much of my evening reading this thread, whooping with delight and watching joan baez on youtube i do believe it is time for me to go to sleep! 4 more sleeps after this one til tues....;)

Education Store Update???

Yeah!!! Does anyone know how quickly the Education Store updates if the notebooks are available on the 14th? Right away? A few days? A week (agony)? Any ideas?

Thanks!

I hope this time it isn't Steve sniffing his own farts "isn't this awesome?" This is make or break in my opinion.

800.00 USD=468.275 GBP & UK always pays a premium so at least £1000 :p

Your not far off with what you say but £500 or better still £499 sounds nicer and more Apple like

Mini update the day before ?

Now that would be a bold move:eek:, would love to see £499 but I just can't envisage them doing it.;)

Well, it seems that Apple don't do a 1:1 conversion like most American manufacturers seem to do (especially software), but of course it's not 1:2 like the £/$ relationship was not so long ago. Actually, currently the pound is quite weak - it's 1:1.7 at the moment.

The model they've got right now - 1099/699 = 1.57. I think that was released at around the time we were at 1:2.

Based on that, if they keep it proportional with the weakening of the pound, I predict somewhere around 1:1.3 this time around, which would make the $799 model £615.
