Does anyone know Apple's history with new-notebook defects? I mean, is it dangerous to go out and buy one of the first ones off the shelves? I can't picture myself being able to wait more than about three hours after the release.
Well, it seems that Apple don't do a 1:1 conversion like most American manufacturers seem to do (especially software), but of course it's not 1:2 like the £/$ relationship was not so long ago. Actually, currently the pound is quite weak - it's 1:1.7 at the moment.
The model they've got right now - 1099/699 = 1.57. I think that was released at around the time we were at 1:2.
Based on that, if they keep it proportional with the weakening of the pound, I predict somewhere around 1:1.3 this time around, which would make the $799 model £615.

In the invite the MB looks kinda thick. Doesn't that go against everything Steve Jobs stands for?

My feeling is that in this case the risk is fairly small (unlike, say, the PPC->Intel switch, where I would not have gone near the first model). But still the prudent course would be to wait for the first bleeding-edge user reports and media reviews before purchasing. In fact I can easily see myself buying one of these in the Black Friday sale!
Huh? The invitation obviously doesn't show this. If the leaked images of the case (that appeared yesterday) are to be believed, the new macbooks will be significantly thinner than the previous models. You can pretty much take that as a given anyway. Apple never ever makes products thicker.
Do Apple stores have a Black Friday sale?![]()
The iPhone 3G is thicker than the original iPhone.
Sorry to be a bastard.

While you wait, why not have a look at the Apple Store from 2001

The bezel on the TiBooks still make me and my almost 2 year old MBP jealous.
