Anyone up for a trip to the Apple Store?

I will be heading to the Apple Store in Penn Square Mall, Oklahoma City, early Wednesday morning of the 15th... that is if they are available at that time.

Anyone one up for a meet with coffee and doughnuts to buy a new MacBook with me?

Let me know!
:D

I agree it should be less but definitely not less than 4 lbs. I'd like to see the new MacBook just under 5 lbs., perhaps in the 4.25-4.5 lb range.

Remember, more weight means more features, like better cooling, dedicated graphics, ect.

I'll take a 5-lb. Macbook, thank you. Some things are more important than weight. Get an Air if it matters so much to you.

Well, you haven't done your homework if you're not convinced. FW is just better and faster than USB 2.0. Given the option, take FW, hands down, every time. Some camcorders have USB connections for transferring stills or MPEG video, but for actual DV importing (which is far superior to MPEG), it's always done with FW. USB 2.0 is just too slow to be practical. Just out of curiosity, what model camcorder do you have?

Audio interfaces (for recording or live audio processing) are almost exclusively Firewire also. If Apple abandons FireWire, they will be abandoning one part of their customer base... Audio and video artists. This would be a huge mistake... Especially after they have gone to such lengths to portray pc's as non-creative business machines.

or it could force those artists over to the pro lines.

I still want to see FW800 on the MB

Well, I actually didn't say it mattered to me. Tonyl is the one that wants less than four pounds which is absolutely absurd; that would be an Air.

I figured I go in between especially since the case in the supposed case leaks look quite a bit thinner. Oh well, I got my money ready, I'm buying whether its 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7, 4.8, 4.9, or 5.0 pounds. :)

I agree with you on this one. While weight is a concern to me to a certain point, if I want something light and not powerful, I'll buy the more expensive Air.

Twitter?

This may have been discussed in the replies already, but the thread is growing exponentially and I can't keep up.
Will there be live twitter updates from MacRumors?

Thanks! :apple:

I wouldn't mind fw800.... as it is backwards compatible. But I think there are a lot of people (like me) who would look elsewhere of the choice was between spending 2k on a pro model or paying $800 for a pc just for a fw port.

I agree. They may slim down to only one 400 or 800 Firewire, but they'll keep the option on the Pro for sure.

Not with a line like "the spotlight turns to notebooks". Come on - thats pretty pessimistic even for these forums.

Actually - don't they normally pay with words for these events. Remember :
"There's something in the air".

I wonder what the permutations on "spotlight" could be?

True, I'm curious as well. I was pretty excited on the phrasing, as a lighting geek.

We already have spotlight in leopard, but because this isn't an OS update (or it doesn't seem that way, imo) I don't think it's that pun.

CRAAAAAAAAP.
just bought a black MB today
i wish there was a smilie for crying right now
:[ :[ :(

If you bought it from Apple, you can get it replaced when the new ones come out if its within 28 days of it coming out. I bought my MBP on Jan 22 or 26 on Feb 22 or 26 they released the speed bump update and multi touch trackpad ... i was vexed, went to the AppleStore, gave me the new MBP, gave me 100 dollars back due to reduction in price, and didn't even require the old box, because I had left that at home (was at school during the time). And this was done at a different Apple Store from which i bought it.

I've never had any experience like this from any other store. Which besides the fact that the mac's are just genius, will keep me going to the apple store for time to come, because they know customer service.

QUESTION: At the Apple store can you pay with 2 cards in one transaction? ie: debit card AND a credit card?

I want to pay my MacBook half debit and half credit.

Obviously this will be my first Mac purchase...

Anyway - what are the chances of this being available next week based on your experience?

Steve likes to say "shipping today". But Steve also likes to say "boom!" so.. :p
I'm hoping they will be available the 14th (if not then--the Tuesday after?).

Easy. Cut the Macbook in half, and pay for one half with debit and the other half (preferably from the same machine) with credit.

Problem solved.

Even though I can daisychain I would really prefer if they kept 2 FW ports on the MBP. Two USB and two FW as it is is somewhat scarce. Yeah, portability is nice, but they don't need to be any thinner - they're already plenty portable.

They take up to 5 methods of payment on a single purchase. Example, 3 different credit cards and cash and debit.

Whoa, slow down dude, you are already to hand Apple your cash without even knowing what notebook will be released on Tuesday. The $800 notebook may not float your boat. You may need to spend more $$$.

I'm gonna go with the mid level MacBook. The mid is always a good balance of price and speed. As long as it's not over $1300 then I'm good.

How funny is that I already know which MacBook I want and I don't even know the specs.

Yes, when Apple updated the iMacs to their current Alu design they were available the day of the announcement.

Care to shed some light on this regarding whether or not they'll be available next tues/wed? TY in advance.

...sorry if I've bugging you guys about this. I really NEED the new macbook before I leave the US on the 17th ^^;

While that wasn't directed at me, I know I'm tossing money at Apple next week. I've waited long enough for a new computer and I need one in less than a month fully software'd up. I don't know which model I'll be purchasing, but they will be getting a large chunk of money from my debit card, whichever macbook I fancy. :D

Call up an Apple Store or get next day shipping online.

How many times to Jobs have to say "Available Now"?

I bought my SR MacBook Pro the same day they were announced at the Apple Store here in Sacramento.

There is a chance these wont be available on the 14th just because they're new/redesigned and they might not be ready yet, but there is also a good chance they will be available the same day given Apples track record on supplying new models the same day they're announced.

Oh yeah, we can pretty much expect an Air update too, right?

Don't know if its already been asked but I don't want to go through the 40 pages ITT.
