Yeah I know where that 0.375% comes from. But a tax is supposed to be charged on products and services. IMHO, a tax on a tax is nonsense. :p

Oh ok. Yeah, I agree. That's a huge tax, but do you have to pay all sorts of other taxes like we do in the US?

It really should only be charged on products. Recently here they started charging tax on things like haircuts and storage rentals that used to be tax free.

Yep, those are only sales taxes.

Almost everything is taxed up here, from haircuts to food, etc. If it's a product or a service, you can be almost assured that it's taxed. GST means Goods and Services Tax, after all.

Yeesh, almost 1500 posts and NO ONE even THOUGHT of a Mac Mini upgrade? Remember folks, the Mac Mini uses notebook parts too. I smell victory for Mac users. :p (Sadly, it smells just like farts...:D)

Also, I want BTO options even on the LOWEST end of the MacBook price spectrum. Like this $800 MacBook everyone's batting about: What would it cost AFTER I put in a BTO Blu-Ray option (if it's even necessary)?

Also, I would like to make a proposal to all you Combo Drive haters: What if said Combo Drive was actually DVD read/write, CD read/write, and BLU-RAY read only? That's actually a sensible upgrade for Combo Drives (i.e. DVD/CD-RW drives), because the new SuperDrives would have both read and write functionality for Blu-Ray. I think the old Combo Drives are ancient history for Apple and SJ.

The mini has been brought up several times. Some posters' lives are now over since the Mac mini isn't mentioned in the invitation.

If it's updated, it's probably going to be a quiet behind the scenes update.

have you seen how much a bluray writer costs?

get real:rolleyes:

Hey, quick question for those video-card nerds out there. I know basically everything about the hardware inside a computer except for the flippin' video card.

What's better: The NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256 MB in the current low-end MBP, or the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB in my Late-2006 Mid-level MBP?

Thanks, folks!

-------------------------------

Nevermind, a quick google search clears it right up.

Im sure someone else will have found this already, but go to http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_pro?mco=MTE4NDY

Then go View - Source. This brings up all the HTML formatting for the site.

Now scroll down to the code for Macbook and Macbook Pro's.

There is the following code inplace, just hasnt been activated yet.

<img src="http://a248.e.akamai.net/7/248/2041/1466/store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/dept/new.png" class="new-icon pngfix" alt="NEW">

This is the code for the NEW icon (go to the new.png url) to see what I mean.

This code is in place ready for use on the Macbook and Macbook Pro products only.

Safely say this is what will be new on the 14th.

Cheers, Sorry if this is a repost.

Hey nice sleuthing. Apple has to be on their toes when their fan base analyses their HTML that closely.

I'm not convinced either however. Working in software, in my experince you'd never expose such give-aways in HTML - even if its commented out or serves placeholder images.

Almost certainly their site is managed by some content management system for page promotion to their prod sites. Thats not how release management typically works in a CMS. You normally promote and bag out whole pages in one go with everything in place. Not in pieces like that.

I discovered this Wednesday (tried submitting it as news, but it must not have been accepted) and posted about it yesterday. I even included a screenshot and description detailing everything. I know it may not be the most reliable hint in the whole scheme of things, but I found it exciting none-the-less. :)
Here's a link to my message if anyone is curious: link

I agree - they likely have a dev environment, send the code to the test environment, Stage the code and then deploy it into production.

The code is probably all ready and they will just change the configuration file to have it point to the production environment and we will get to see our new MB/MBPs :)

they have had that up ever since they had new products, and i work with a lot of HTMl/CSS code and this is nothing to say "they're gonna be available on tuesday" its just something they've had on their regarding anything thats new or not. its just there whenever something new comes on and they just flip it on

I really hope the UK price doesn't go up, what with the weakening of the pound happening quicker than the dollar and all that. Definitely time to treat ourselves though, could be our last chance before the new Great Depression sets in.

Anyway.. we'll be travelling 2.5hrs by car here. Sure, we could order online, but apart from the issue of not seeing it first (checking out the display etc) it's really tedious waiting for delivery. Especially if it's going to come all the way from China like they seem to often do!

Besides, for geeks it's a fun family day out. Better than the zoo, and the Apple geniuses (most of them anyway) don't seem to smell quite as bad.

The new macbooks are due to release in November.
So the rumor goes.

What rumor's that then, the one you just started? ;)
I hope you're wrong, as I know what Apple's "available November" would mean (November 30th). Wouldn't entirely surprise me though. Some of those iPhone waits - particularly the 2.0 firmware - were torture.

Actually, he's a MacBook Air -- just as thin! ;) :D

Heh :) He's like one of crazy scientists who tries his experiments out on his own body. (lol hojo).
Maybe that means he's going to get curves next. Ooer hormone treatment.

I just firebugged that, not a lot to see but it put a smile on my face!

I agree with you, it's a common technique, but worth noting that they only appear on macbook and macbook pro ;)

anyone know about student pricing? will it be available from the get go? i notice there is no student pricing onthe new ipods. is that because theyre new or what? whats apple's track records for this situation

There are no student prices on iPods since the iPod nano 2nd Gen. (for I know in Belgium, and maybe rest of Europe or more)

well student pricing only goes for big products that are expensive (as far as i know) and ive never seen the ipods price go down on the students discount

Ever since they dropped the regular iPods from $299 to $249 and the Nanos from $199 to $149 there has been no student pricing on them.

Or, the 'new' was there 227 days ago when that page first appeared. At some point, it was no longer considered new and they hid it, without changing the entire page. (And the Air and Mini weren't new so they didn't have a 'new') There, we solved it! :D

i'm a lot fuddled by all this credit crunch stuff....what will it actually mean for me if i buy my new apple macbook through the apple financing system and pay for my macbook monthly? will i be getting myself into hot water with that or will i not be affected at all...sorry to be so naieve about these things....i just thought someone here may be able to help shed some light into my fuddled brain!!
