What should they say?

You realize Cook’s statements are carefully written for him by people who know what they’re doing?

You also realize Apple’s strategy is working brilliantly and they are the envy of the business world?

I understand that. I guess I miss the days when the same script wasn't simply recycled year after year. I want to get excited, but apart from Craig, I find Apple's presentation about as interesting as watching paint dry.

We'll see how brilliant Apple really is. I am withholding judgment for now, but this may solidify my decision to move back to Windows. I really enjoy macOS but the mobile hardware is problematic. The keyboard is still an issue, I hate the size of the touch pad, and I find the touch bar to be inefficient. Couple that with the difficulty to repair the MB(P)s, even for Apple, and I am moving slowly back toward Windows. Unless Apple can provide reliable, repairable, efficient hardware that doesn't hurt your hands when you type--I constantly bottom out their keys, there is no point in buying into the ecosystem any longer.

Well yes, but Apple makes a lot of computers, not just iPad’s. I think this will be the best Apple computer I’ve used.

It always is ;)

Here's the deal: Any announced laptops with the Modern Apple™ Dust-Kryptonite™ keyboard is a HARD PASS.

They might as well not even update a line if they are going to force a garbage keyboard (or a touchbar).

Trackpad support is the only unknown, external monitor support is likely coming this year, and file management is not a problem. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Xcode at WWDC next year.
Unknown, maybe, non-truth in a development environment, speculation

File management is not a problem?!?! When was the last time you created something beyond ‘Hello World’?

Sorry, it will be a WHILE before NON-basic software can be made in an iPad, without one wanting to poke their eyes out and throwing the iPad across the room.

Agreed. I think you're being kind, though. Watching paint dry doesn't make me cringe and there have been several cringeworthy moments in recent keynotes. Craig is the only bright spot. Jony's design videos border on parody. Tim has gotten worse as a presenter. He's adopted this weird, almost politician-like, way of speaking and when he stresses words like "magical" and "amazing", it just sounds creepy and desperate. Jobs knew how to put on a show. I got to sit in the second row, front and center, at one of the NeXTWORLD keynotes back in the day and it was electric. Apple's current executive lineup doesn't have that kind of energy or charisma. Craig is the only one with charm.

Really curious to see what the MBA update is like. That update will pretty much determine whether I get a new MBA or purchase one of the new Surface Laptops. As someone who does a lot of writing, I'm hoping they keep the old keyboard. Unfortunately, I think it's almost guaranteed to be the butterfly keyboard instead.

I do a lot of writing on my 2017 MBP and I can guarantee you 100% you’ll be totally fine.

I've been happy enough with my mac mini and don't really need to upgrade to a newer one except I get angry with how slow my system gets at times but it's entirely my fault as I use chrome and have dozens of tabs open. If the ram and storage is upgradeable I would definitely buy a new one but not necessarily on day one, but I would expect that ram will not be upgradeable, only storage (and even then). In that case, I'm not sure what I'd do.

$60B in annual profit and a $1.1T (cheap) valuation hasn’t impressed you yet? OK.

I expect the RAM to be upgradeable but the storage to be chips soldered to the logic board.

The SE is dead at least for now. There is less than a 0% chance it makes an appearance at this event. Buy the Xr if you are in the market for a phone and the Xr is your second option after an Xse
Or a xperia xz2 compact for something newer

There's more in the making, or, here's an updated iPad, we are still making iMacs, Wireless Charges, Apple TV, a better iPad, a new phone and a new car. All designed to drain your hard earned cash - that's our 2020 vision.

Because hosting another event at Steve jobs theatre would be boring and monotonous. Why not have an overseas venue next time? Japan could be idea since apple products are strong there.
A lot of press won’t fly there just for an announcement.

Yeah, last year’s iMacs were updated in June, so I never expected an interim update. The 8th gen improvements were marginal except for the addition of the hex-core, whose loss was somewhat mitigated by the iMac Pro (albeit at a higher price).

The current design is somewhat long in the tooth, and this being the 20th anniversary it seems a logical time to refresh it. I’m assuming we can expect smaller bezels, better cooling and space grey at a minimum. The display is already excellent, so it’ll be interesting to see what the rumored display improvements might be, beyond True Tone. FaceID would be awesome and wouldn’t surprise me at all.

* Better Cooling + Space Grey + new CPU's would be awesome...smaller bezels....that would make it perfect.

Just because it's warranted doesn't mean the word whining suddenly loses its meaning. It's still whining.

The word whining implies the person doing it is a malcontent or difficult to satisfy. My point is that people may be whining for a legitimate reason which is not the same thing.

Utterly pathetic? The iMac Pro was released less than a year ago; with loads of performance, core options, USB-3 and TB 3 ports, and 10G ethernet. Other iMacs have had spec-bumps inline with Intel's roadmap.

And...on a personal note, my 4 GHz i7 5K iMac still works great and puts a smile on my face everyday I work in front of its gorgeous display.

Oh come on.

The iMac Pro may be an impressive machine but who exactly is that for? Most pro users don't want a built-in screen and next to no expandability. And most desktop users don't need that kind of power nor want that kind of price tag.

I stand by my assertion that Apple's efforts in desktop computing have been utterly pathetic for almost half a decade at this point.

For Apple' macs to stand for double the performance, they will not update them for 2-3 years...
But the event it looks to be 2 hours long so we will have a lot to talk about

I don't think anyone is saying that the new iPad Pro will replace any MacBook Pro. I do think, however, that Apple will strongly encourage programmers and other professions who have been using MacBook Airs, to transition to those new fangled MBPs, because they are going to replace the MacBook Air with the iPad Pro.

The ability to add a mouse pointer in iOS has existed for years in Cydia for jailbreakers. I'm pretty sure Apple has had the ability sitting on the shelf for at least as long.

The new iPad ($330) has been given a major feature of the iPad Pro, stylus support. I can easily see Apple now elevating and further differentiating the new iPad Pro to become the new MacBook Air, the entry level Apple computer for college students and people that want a portable solution but don't have the requirement for the complexity your described.

Add mouse support, USB-C, enhanced display out capabilities, and additional multitasking capabilities. Done. If you already have a Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, and monitor, for $700 and the price of the USB-C to HDMI dongle, you've got an entry level home computer you can easily take on the road. Need more power at home? Get the new Pro level Mac Mini. Need more traditional computing on the road? Get a MacBook. But, if you just need a computer sometimes and a tablet as your primary, your good to go. Plus, I'm sure Belkin and others will have folio solutions with trackpads on the ready.

Apple may have four solutions (iPad, iPad Pro, MacBook, MacBook Pro) for your portable computing needs.
Apple may have four solutions (iPad Pro, Mac Mini, iMac, Mac Pro) for your desktop computing needs.

Kryptonite keyboard. I like that and will henceforth refer it it on these here forums and other places as thus.

:)

Sounds like a music-themed event. Hopefully AirPods 2 will be released (not just announced) since I lost my first gen a month ago.

But the logos look art related. So perhaps it’s a bit of both. Maybe a better GarageBand and even iMovie for iPad. Closer to the desktop versions, perhaps even with plug in support for adding loops, effects, templates etc.

I don't think anyone is saying that the new iPad Pro will replace any MacBook Pro.

It already has for many people. Because they just don’t need a full on computer. Why demand they buy more than they need because of some stupid bias that everyone has to use a notebook or a desktop. Let them use what works for them and if you need a ‘real computer’ knock yourself out

I was watching EMPIRE and it appeared that the show had one already. No home button whatsoever. However, I never saw the back of it to confirm it was an Apple. Cookie was face timing with her son.

What episode

I don’t get why they are not holding the event at the Steve Jobs theatre, also for the first time it will be on at 3pm here in the U.K. (10am eastern time is 3pm here) and the event invites have all gone out with different designs, I’m probably wrong but something feels different about this.

They want to hold it in NYC and so they are. The different designs likely ties into the whole ‘making’ thing which also ties into why they picked a ‘making’ related venue. There are rumors they are revamping their workshops so using a school could be a nod to that.

That is so funny. How about photographers, graphic designers, animators, architects, video producers/editors, music producers, engineers using scientific software such as MATLAB, 3D modeling/rendering, and on and on.

And next to no expandability? With four USB-3 ports, four USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports each with I/O capability to 40 Gb/sec and with the capability of driving two 5K displays, up to 128 GB RAM, and 10 built-in Gb Ethernet NIC?

Please, use your imagination with respect to expansion and efficient super fast interfaces, rather than parroting tired internet memes based on how things were done in the old days.

"And most desktop users don't need that kind of power nor want that kind of price tag."

No kidding, but what a nice straw man. In any event, that's why Apple has a range of well-priced iMacs, including models at the high end with quad core 4.2 GHz cpus and 5K displays, and capable of driving up to two external displays.

If there is no new Mac hardware can they at least release MacOS as a standalone product? It's getting ridiculous, and the offerings that do come out are underpowered, underclocked, I/O restricted, overpriced nightmares.

They tried that once and it was a disaster. Don’t see them doing it again
