That is so funny. How about photographers, graphic designers, animators, architects, video producers/editors, music producers, engineers using scientific software such as MATLAB, 3D modeling/rendering, and on and on.

And next to no expandability? With four USB-3 ports, four USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports each with I/O capability to 40 Gb/sec and with the capability of driving two 5K displays, up to 128 GB RAM, and 10 built-in Gb Ethernet NIC?

Please, use your imagination with respect to expansion and efficient super fast interfaces, rather than parroting tired internet memes based on how things were done in the old days.

"And most desktop users don't need that kind of power nor want that kind of price tag."

No kidding, but what a nice straw man. In any event, that's why Apple has a range of well-priced iMacs, including models at the high end with quad core 4.2 GHz cpus and 5K displays, and capable of driving up to two external displays.

All I can say is I love my iMac pro - I need the kind of power and had no problems paying that price tag for that power [and it was a reasonable price tag for what I got]. Some people understand the machines others don’t. BTW I use it for 3D modelling and rendering mostly.

I see the iMac pro as an engineering marvel - I push it regularly using all cores and the fans remain quiet. Amazing.

BTW I have had HP + Dell workstations and never bothered opening up and upgrading. I just sold and got another machine. There seems to be some BS going round that a workstation must be able to be opened up!

Mac Pro sells for exactly $3,000. Well, $2,999 to be exact.

That's a discounted price. If there ever is a new MacPro look to have $3500

External connections is just what Apple touted with the trashcan Mac Pro

Just sayin
:)

Predictions:

The Mac line would then be:

Mac
Mac Pro

iMac
iMac Pro

MacBook
MacBookPro

I hope so. I'd really like something in between a Mac mini and Mac Pro, with a consumer based graphics card, hopefully a GTX 1080.

Apple uses AMD cards so you got your hopes up in vain

This is a crucial keynote for Apple. It will show us their direction for next few years. If there is nothing interesting (nice tech for a reasonable price), I will have to get out of the ecosystem.
Call me a coward, but I am just not able to watch those loaded, jeans-wearing, safe-playing cowards on stage anymore (except Craig)
Someday, they will blow their final stab at the Mac.
I don’t want to witness that.

I don't know. Last couple of years all Apple keynotes were such a snooze fest. Hell, I'm more excited for the OnePlus 6T unveiling on 30. October.

The Nvidia 750M in my Macbook begs to differ. But frankly, I wouldn't mind an AMD 570 or 580. That Nvidia 750M is a piece of ****. It was a piece of **** in 2014 too.

Do we expect anything to happen to the MacBook Pro on the 30th? Price, spec, anything?
I am now ready to trigger an upgrade, but don't really want to do it if something better is less than 2 weeks away.

Apple's design philosophy these days seems to be Function follows form.

Their cunning plan seems to be to constrain our function to their existing and really very tired form. If this presentation - "there's more in the making" does turn out to be another attempt to tell me that the iPad, now with Photoshop (woo hoo!), is the answer to my computing needs then you'll probably hear my howl from the other side of the Atlantic.

iOS versions of Final Cut ProX and Logic ProX for the new iPad Pro ???

I really don't see how this would work at all...

My Clarett 8Pre audio interface connects via Thunderbolt, and all those audio plugins require a significant amount of RAM. As for Final Cut Pro, where do all those high end video cards go?

When they release Xcode for Windows (or possibly even iPad), that will be the sign that the Mac is dead.

Craig is the only bright spot. Jony's design videos border on parody. Tim has gotten worse as a presenter. He's adopted this weird, almost politician-like, way of speaking and when he stresses words like "magical" and "amazing", it just sounds creepy and desperate. Jobs knew how to put on a show. I got to sit in the second row, front and center, at one of the NeXTWORLD keynotes back in the day and it was electric. Apple's current executive lineup doesn't have that kind of energy or charisma. Craig is the only one with charm.

Current Apple has no direction. No leadership. NO VISION.

They iterate on products started or completed under Jobs (the Watch was definitely started while he was still CEO), sometimes not even once a year.

They are supposedly working on a car?

Maybe they'll become a TV studio?

$1 trillion in marketshare and they don't know what to do.

The new iPad ($330) has been given a major feature of the iPad Pro, stylus support. I can easily see Apple now elevating and further differentiating the new iPad Pro to become the new MacBook Air, the entry level Apple computer for college students and people that want a portable solution but don't have the requirement for the complexity your described.

Add mouse support, USB-C, enhanced display out capabilities, and additional multitasking capabilities. Done.

Don't forget a floppy disk drive - that will catapult the iPad's capabilities well into the 1980s !

Apple may have four solutions (iPad, iPad Pro, MacBook, MacBook Pro) for your portable computing needs.
Apple may have four solutions (iPad Pro, Mac Mini, iMac, Mac Pro) for your desktop computing needs.

Just a minor issue with that - iOS and OSX are not compatible, neither is the hardware, they are just barely able to communicate on a basic level .
And Apple has been incredibly slow in providing input and connectivity solutions for iOS products , to say the least .

Hence, iPads don't integrate well into a Mac workflow .

It would be nice if you could connect the new iPad into you Mac (via usbc) and use it as a second monitor. I know there are already apps for that, but from my experience they are not so good. But if the iPad supports it natively... that might be interesting.

I think more generalized "Pro Content-Creation" (both video and audio).

I also think the second (and possibly third) "logos" (especially the layered-Apple) are a tip of the hat to Modular Macs...

Excited!

<wishful thinking>

I actually think that the whole design of this points to modular Macs - "There's more in the making" implies the possibility that WE make the mac how we want it to be. Then having lots of different Apple logos might mean that there are lots of options.

Apple has been openly telegraphing their intentions for quite some time now. They are going to focus on mobile and wearables, likely at the expense of the Mac. I don’t know why people go in expecting something different each time round, only to walk away disappointed thereafter. And I don’t see what incentive Apple has to walk back on this roadmap when that’s clearly where all the money is.

Apple’s idea of integration likely means that you will be able to choose any one of their devices and work on it right away. For example, once photoshop comes to the iPad, you aren’t constrained to your desk. You can do the heavy lifting on your iMac Pro, then maybe pick up and add the finishing touches using the same app on your iPad later on.

Not so much about being able to use all your Apple hardware concurrently.

Just because Apple isn’t working on what you want them to work on doesn’t mean they have lost their way.

Kryptonite keyboard. I like that and will henceforth refer it it on these here forums and other places as thus.

How about Dustonite?

Google tells me I just invented a new word. :D

Your search - "Dustonite" - did not match any documents.

Suggestions:

  • Make sure that all words are spelled correctly.
  • Try different keywords.
  • Try more general keywords.

They tried that once and it was a disaster. Don’t see them doing it again

What disaster was that? It nearly killed them financially? That was when Apple only sold Macs.

How could that even be a disaster today, when Macs bring the smallest share of the profits? Windows 10 is such a mess that Apple would probably make at least 10 times as much profit selling macOS for non-Mac PCs instead of selling trying to squeeze profits out of Macs built with out-of-date components. Profit margins are a lot higher on software than they are on hardware, after all.

Seeing as Tim doesn't seem to like Macs and likes to maximize profits, I'd say that macOS for everyone would not surprise me at all. It would even explain the multitude of logos for the current event.

How can Apple spend time adding refinements to neglected products when they're focused on removing the next button, port, key, pad, magsafe, bezel, upgradable/removable hardware component, or fractional mm of thickness?

For the love of Steve... Apple did not remove mag-safe. Apple effectively opened it up for everyone to add it into any one of the ports in any number of different ways. Now we have a lot more choice.

Just google “usb-c MagSafe”

What the f is the problem???

Yes Apple removed it. Do you visually see the port in the Mbp?

The problem is this is aftermarket, and there is no Apple approved MagSafe alternative. The 3rd party MagSafe adapters do not sit flush with the chassis, and some do not reliably work.

Apple doesn't care about Pros anymore!

(Apple announces a Pro-focused Mac mini and new Mac Pro)

Apple better not make the mini a Pro device!

Gimme a break!!!

Ok, but the entire point of a Mac Mini was to be affordable lol. If they make a pro tier and keep an entry model I guess that would be fine.
