By what yardstick are things not innovating forward?
Battery life and signal strength is getting worse every year, the notch is an ugly limitation that prevents enjoying full screen content. What we get instead? New Animoji.

To me, the Animoji is innovative, but there is nothing like listing things one DOESN'T like as examples of no innovation.

True about the notch, but the alternatives, hole in screen, moveable bezels, popup flash are in the same ballpark. But somehow, I don't find the notch interfering with my viewing pleasure. YMMV.

Current iPhones need:
- first of all, better quality control. Dead OLED pixels and dust specks under camera glass are became very common
- better camera, 'cause current camera suck ass under badly lit conditions
- longer battery life
In this case I'll buy one. Otherwise it is not worth the money asked for.

I would be surprised if anything made by Apple would interfere with your experience. With your last words you just proved my point on how there’s lack of innovation.

Well, regardless of what happens on the 10th, expect MR to go on annual iPhone Event/October Hardware Announcements overdrive after a lazy week leading up to the holiday weekend here in the US.

So....starting Tuesday: three or four articles posted by Juli Clover every few minutes. This should last until around the end of the year. /thumbsup

I figured they would send out the invites today. The multi-colored, jelly-like logo is certainly interesting... Reference to the colors of the XR maybe?

I mocked up a quick little wallpaper out of the invite for anyone who would like to have it. Unfortunately it's only in XS Max resolution because that's the phone I have :)

I like it, but is there anyway you can put a back background on it? Also, I think instead of the theme "By innovation only" it should just be "Innovation Only" on the wallpaper, and quite frankly for Apple as well.

I, for one, personally thinks that sounds much better.

I doubt it will happen, but I would love for a surprise collaboration with Nintendo with the Apple Arcade, and have all Nintendo's virtual console titles, or at least the classic edition titles be available on the Apple Arcade.

Or maybe some good games ported to the tvOS.

Better yet, a new ATV with a A13X and bundled controller with the things above, and a year's Apple Arcade sub for less than $300 would make me very happy.

I would subscribe to Apple Arcade in a heartbeat (even if it was a little over $300...closer to $400) if, like you said, they did a collaboration with Nintendo and launch Mario Cart 64, and Goldeneye (the N64 version)...that would truly be awesome!

Unfortunately, I do not think that this will happen in the near future. Also, to be honest...I don't think it will happen at all.

That’s a great point and it proves we all have different value systems. The corollary is we spend our money as we see fit. And as I said (quite clearly) YMMV

Without Jony Ive touting this as “the most innovative iPhone we’ve ever made”, I’m skeptical...

"By innovation only" big words...that means this event cannot be just for iPhones and Apple watch...it would be too small for these big words
I hope it will be an big 2 hours event with iphones, ipads, apple watch, ipads and macs

I think it is pretty much confirmed that we will see all of those things...iPhones (Duh!)...Apple Watch (Duh!)...and the new 16" MacBook Pro.

The only thing that is up in the air, sort of speak, is if we will get new iPads or not.

Then obviously we will see new services launched as well.

So the iphone wont only look hideous from the front (notch) but now also from the back. It has a tiny stove put on the back.

This iPhone is about to be the UGLIEST! Not only looking from the face, but also from the back!
Comparing to super CLEAN look of 7/8, X and up is so fugly!

If the new iPhone camera features for video and stills are as good as Mark Gurman says they are, Apple could put Marty Feldman's eyes on the back of the iPhone and I'd be fine with it.

I would, however, change Siri to the British male voice in order to have the complete package.

Rounded corners have always been part of Apple’s design language, since the first Macintosh... lately, they have been bringing them back (first in Apple Watch 4, now in iPad Pros), so it stands to reason that this will extend across the product line.
Which I’m okay with. It’s a nice touch.

Rounded corners on the LCD itself would be problematic from a software and a usability point of view.

Generally, we refer to screens using pixel dimensions. Having rounded corners on the inside of the bezel would mean that part of the pixels on all four corners would be obscured or inaccessible. It looks stylish and all, but it would render that part of the screen area useless.

The existing iPhone models with a camera that protrudes into the screen area from the bexel are a classic example. Unless there is a specific reason why some part of the screen should be obscured, doing so only degrades the user experience and throws up technical roadblocks to graphic designers, software and UI developers and so on.
