I’m cringing at the thought of the MacRumors thread after Apple brings back the rainbow Apple logo.

Haters will cry that Tim Cook is “forcing his agenda” on them, even though the Apple rainbow logo preceded the Pride flag and the colours aren’t even the same.

The rainbow apple logo does indeed reference gay rights while paying tribute to Alan Turing who was gay.

You could make the back of iPhone flat, eliminate the bump, and on a black phone, the cameras would be near invisible.

That’s what they could do. Easy.
I wonder how they haven't thought of that. /s

Maybe they want something easily recognisable when people see it

I figured they would send out the invites today. The multi-colored, jelly-like logo is certainly interesting... Reference to the colors of the XR maybe?

I mocked up a quick little wallpaper out of the invite for anyone who would like to have it. Unfortunately it's only in XS Max resolution because that's the phone I have :)

Fits like a glove as my lock screen on my XS Max, thanks.

True about the notch, but the alternatives, hole in screen, moveable bezels, popup flash are in the same ballpark. But somehow, I don't find the notch interfering with my viewing pleasure. YMMV.
You missed “no notch” in the alternatives list. Just a plain full screen with embedded cameras and fingerprint sensor that just works is what I’d call innovative. Sorry for having higher demands than yours, but I like to use great things, not mediocre ones with ugly notches.

It seems like most people don’t want a thicker, heavier iPhone—which would get even thicker once it’s put into a case.

It makes more sense for the lenses to be flush with the case, rather than be recessed as they’d be if they were flush with the iPhone.

Is that actually true? I could have sworn that some reviewers were reporting ~4-5 hours of heavy usage is all the latest Samsung’s have been getting. And what’s that one device with the 120hz refresh screen - it gets even worse usable battery life.

I’m not arguing that Apple could shift some focus from thinness to accommodate a bigger battery, but they clearly are walking that line between performance, design and longevity and that isn’t likely to change.
Samsung phones et al can last for up to a couple of days on a charge. They do come with bigger batteries as well, even the cheaper models

I bet you one person who many Apple fans know, will be getting an invite and that is youtuber iJustine, apples queen when it comes to promoting it's products.

does it really escape you that there are plenty of people that buy apple products but still hate apple and the product they brought?

you realize that this is not incongruent and paradoxical?

people paid $1000 for a phone with basically no leading features. using screen tech from galaxy s5. they are allowed to say whatever the hell they want.

At what point does it become a case of “well, what were you expecting at this point”?

If I ate at a restaurant and I thought the food tasted horrible or wasn’t to my liking, I would simply stop patronising it. What’s the logic behind continuing to eat at an eatery whose food you know you hate, and going on to complain and kick up a fuss about it every step of the way?

In a sense, it’s like eating at an Italian restaurant and then griping that it doesn’t serve Japanese cuisine. At some point, Apple isn’t the problem any more. You are, because you want what Apple can’t or won’t offer.

The day and Age of a phone being only a phone has long gone. Way more people demand a phone to do way more than what a phone supposed to do.
It is not just Tim causes that, it’s the combined might of us customer causes that, the frenzy of phone screen and camera quality. We deserves that, not Tim.
Partially Agree.

But, Tim is not involved in any of the product development and releases to the point that he discovers the product during their own shows.
See Macbook Pro and Tim videos.

Second, Tim is only pushing for existing phone, design with improvements because of $$$

Third, I am not against cameras and stuff BUT I am also interested in an iPhone without overpaying for the things I never use.
I save that money for mirrorless and lenses.

Phones are truly more than just phones but I highly doubt 30% of that insane price going into small cameras is worth it.
Phone will disappear eventually when other devices take over.
Till then, placing 1 million lenses and sensors does not qualify for upgrades, innovation and insane pricing.

Yes I agree though. People pay for this... all I am saying why not innovate on other important areas but just darn large screen size and zoom images for people who take "lonelys" (selfies)

Just 10 years ago we didn’t have apps, we couldn’t record video, and we couldn’t send picture messages. Get a grip. People are so spoiled. And, shocker, you’re more than welcome to keep your current device.
Yes we could, not great but we could do all that. I had a Nokia in 2005 that could do all that and it had apps.
I agree that innovation is needed, but just because ten years ago there was no iPhone, it doesn't mean there were no phones out there and with a lot of features.

If anybody would have been able to do this without bigger chins and foreheads they would have. I’d rather have the notch than a phone with bigger bezels. Maybe Apple heard you in 2019, but I doubt it.

I have to admit - I'm hyped. I think the the iPhone 11 Pro will improve the existing iPhone a lot! It's going to be a matured iPhone X - which is perfectly fine for me.

Can you please change the event countdown description, it’s not an iPhone only event.

We all know that Apple have registered multiple new iPad models, MacBook models and Watch models.

I suspect the MacBooks and iPads might be reserved for another event after the iPhone keynote, timed around the release of iOS 13.1 patch.

We are likely to get an iPhone + accessories reveal at the iPhone event. My guess is iPhone, Apple Watch, a couple of new accessories, plus Apple Arcade and video, and updates on how existing services like news and Apple Card are doing.

It’s always been a glorified press event, and I don’t think Apple would risk diluting their product messaging with too many product announcements in one sitting.

I don't think I've seen this mentioned here, but it seems pretty clear to me that if you wanted to increase zoom to a camera, adding another sensor/lens vertically would be the best approach to minimize distortions from stitching the lens' results together, which means there's a reason for going horizontally with a third lens. My gut says the invitation (and mentioned innovation) is a reflection on object/colour recognition, a nod to real advances in augmented reality implementation through improved depth mapping - something which is made exponentially easier by adding a third lens off-axis from the other two.

Well said. Lots of people complaining that Apple isn’t good or innovative any longer and yet, will preorder once available.

Ah, the approach of the fall Apple release season, I love this time of year and the return of our favorites!

- Follow our event liveblog right here!
- The many many "Apple releases" and "Apple announces" articles!
- The many "hands on with....." articles!
- The "everything Apple announced today in under 10 minutes" article!
- The Verge's tendency, at least to me, to somewhat "poo poo" new Apple releases, but in a way I find entertaining.
- Most of all, the comments. How I LOVE the comments. I get fidgety when I can't have access to the comments.

I say this with only partial sarcasm. As for me, I previously commented that I am feeling very very "meh" about this year's slate. I am not in the budget for a new Macbook (my late 2013 15" and my early 2015 13" are fabulous machines I adore) I did get the iPad Air 3 in March so I'm good for iPads.

As for the iPhone, I usually upgrade every fall, right on the dot, on release day. This year I'm feeling like either holding on to my XR, which is a great phone in every respect (even the camera!) and waiting for next year for the first time ever or maybe waiting for closer to the holidays and treating myself then. I'm sure it will be THE BEST IPHONE EVER blah blah blah but just not feeling the need this year for once.

Just my opinion of course, you're welcome to yours. If you upgrade, great! If you chose not to, great to!

Choice is good.

iPads and Apple Watches have always been launched (in recent years) along with the iPhone. My point is that however they split the products, it’s not in any way going to be an iPhone dedicated event as Macrumors are describing.

WTF? Why?

Why would you want those that choose to keep their 10/10s models not to have the full feature set offered by iOS 13?

This is the most absurd thing I’ve read in this forum in the ten years I’ve been here.

Because some people are just looking for a justification to buy something new and be able to say that it does something special.
