While it might be a hint to new, round products (Watch, Mac Mini/nano or whatever) I just think it’s a graphic of the Apple campus where it’s held. The graphic design shows the major architectural elements from the top: the windows (two lines in the middle) and the solar panels near the outside of the building (see image:

1-city-of-cupertino.jpg

If that’s the case, then Tim might be giggling in his office thinking about how fans go crazy overinterpreting.

The new Mac mini will be round. :)

More likely, however, is the new Apple Watch will be round. That is a GREAT decision, if it is true.

I'm ready to get a new iPhone this year. But Apple will get another $1K+ out of me if they do the right upgrades to the Mac mini. It's gotta have a dedicated GPU and options for two internal drives/SSD.

Mark

I hate to be the guy that says never, but never. I don't understand peoples fascination with a round watch. For the majority of uses the shape doesn't matter but for a lot a square/rectangle makes he most sense. Round would be purely aesthetic and would require developers to spend more time on watch apps that are already sorely lacking. So...never...

So sad that Apple users do not expect that much anymore. They get happy when they bump the speed of a processor and do minor internal upgrades and Animojis...

True Innovation has been dead for quite a while. Look at the iMac deisgn, not upgraded in 10 years. Mac Pro same thing,

There are lots of things that I don’t agree with about Apple phones, but after the first couple of iPhones how much “innovation” has Apple had. Let’s broaden that: how much really starting improvements has ANY phone manufacturer had? Speed upgrades, camera upgrades, processor speed increases, memory increases, screen resolution, screen sizes....it’s been a while since some out of the blue feature has been added. New programs but that’s programming not some unheard of feature. Face ID has been around for a while, laptops have had fingerprints readers for a long time before phones did. Apple seems to have set a gold standard with those but they weren’t new, they were improvements.

Computers spent a good 10 years where most of the hardware improvements were incremental and not some large unexpected leap starting in the early 1990’s. Not that changes weren’t being worked on but the technology needed to be improved before those changes were viable. Give AR and VR time they might be the honest Really Big Thing. But those aren’t really viable yet. Smartphones weren’t either, in the 90’s, but that’s when the first ones appeared. IBM developed one that had most of the features that the first iPhone had. Just a whole lot larger, heavier, costly and with poor resolution.

Technology goes through an innovate, consolidation, development, and then back to innovate process.

Apple's low-cost iPhone, which could be priced around $700, is expected to use an aluminum frame and a single-lens camera, keeping costs low.

Keeping costs low at $700 . Seriously ???

OKAY. CRAZIEST predictions that are in no way shape or form true (except maybe number 8):
3. It's the first iEye...contact lens/screen interface

You might be onto something there but hard to belive Apple is getting to the contact lens business...

Looks similar...

With the most recent "leaks", this circular image now seems to indicate the watch's crown in addition to the gold finish being applied to some of the new products.

...and still no PowerBook G5. ;)

Its the auditorium. Not a product or shape change to anything.

I know October is right after September, but hoping that the new Macs will be announced during the September event and not on it's own event in October.

Not necessarily because Apple gave no advanced warning when they introduced large screen iPhones with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus.
Developers then has to adapt once they were released.
Thats not exactly correct -- we were given guidance to follow auto layout rules -- you needed to read between the lines.

Excited to watch this one. Hoping for a Mac Mini and MacBook Air refresh. Those have been needing one for a while.

Also they might make a public announcement discontinuing the iPod Touch. (we can pray)

"Apple's low-cost iPhone, which could be priced around $700,..."

That's not low-cost.
For Apple this is very low cost! Haha.

Apple's low-cost iPhone, which could be priced around $700...

Low cost? It is more like lower-cost, as they still sell these and once the new 2018 batch is released the prices below should be lowered even more:

iPhone 8 - 699$
iPhone 7 - 549$
iPhone 6S - 449$
iPhone SE - 349$

It will be interesting to see what happens do 6S and SE after the event.

Se & 6S will die; certain nations may have it in stock as part of government policy for Apple retail store. 7 will be the low end. Those on last year appleCare+ with the 7 may get an 8 as replacement.

Apple today sent out media invites for its annual iPhone-centric event that will be held on Wednesday, September 12 at 10:00 a.m. at the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park Campus in Cupertino, California.

The media invites released today give a first look at the theme of the event and feature the tagline "Gather Round," likely referencing the main ring-shaped building at Apple Park.

There are a lot of product refreshes that we could see at the fall 2018 event. First and foremost, Apple is expected to be introducing three iPhones this year: a second-generation 5.8-inch OLED device, a larger-screened 6.5-inch OLED device, and a lower-cost 6.1-inch smartphone with an LCD display.

All three iPhones are expected to feature upgraded A12 processors, faster LTE, edge-to-edge displays, and Face ID integration, with Apple doing away with the Home button for its entire 2018 iPhone lineup.

Apple's low-cost iPhone, which could be priced around $700, is expected to use an aluminum frame and a single-lens camera, keeping costs low. The two OLED iPhones, which could cost somewhere between $800 and $1,000, will use stainless steel frames with dual-lens cameras.

Along with fresh iPhones, Apple is expected to introduce the Apple Watch Series 4, which is said to feature a larger display likely implemented through a reduction in bezel size. Longer battery life and improved health monitoring capabilities are also rumored, but beyond that, we don't know much about the new wrist-worn devices.

New iPad Pro models with Face ID, slimmer bezels, and no Home button are in the works, as are refreshed Macs that include a low-cost MacBook and a new Mac mini, but it is not clear if these products will come at the September event.

Apple may use a second October event to unveil new iPads and Macs as it has done in past years where Macs and iPads were introduced in the fall.

New Apple Watch bands, revamped AirPods with "Hey Siri" support, and the long-awaited AirPower charging mat, which is designed to charge the Apple Watch, iPhone, and AirPods at the same time, will all likely be introduced in September.

Apple's 2018 iPhone keynote event will begin at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Apple will live stream the event on its website and on Apple TV, but for those who are unable to watch, MacRumors will be providing full event coverage both on MacRumors.com and through our MacRumorsLive Twitter account.

I hope so to. But I am beginning to doubt it. I think with will be iPhone, iPad, iWatch only. No Macs until October. I mean they didn't even include the MacBook Pro in an event!:(

If so that’s pretty lame. Marketing is all about getting people hyped about your products. Apple has mastered this. Using your event invitation to cryptically reference the shape of a building? That doesn’t make much sense.
