I love this (sarcasm), Apple really do think they have the next big thing, lets just hope this thing is as beautiful as it's being hyped up too be. I still can't see myself ever wanting one, the idea of a watch, when I carry my phone around with me everywhere seems pointless.

Would that include Perez what's-his-name?

Nah, he just exploits celebrities.

If you thought Angela was hired to simply run the retail operation...

It's funny, I've only been around here a few years. But I went back the other night and read the thread about the iPod when it came out. There was a lot of "This isn't Apple's space. This will fail. They need to stick to computers." sort of commentary. I think this is a similar moment in Apple's history. Time will tell whether it will have a similar outcome, but I'm going to enjoy watching it pan out.

Same happened with similar language when the iPhone was rumored, and even the iPad too.

The first time so far as I know Apple has built a building specifically for an event, looks like it may contain a cat walk, top fashion editors invited in the middle of the New York Fashion Week!

I'm actually starting to think the building is really a smart house, and reporters will be able to wander through wearing the iWatch or holding an iPhone and turn the lights on and off.

The Swiss should be worried.

Question. This is a report from Reuters but no names were dropped. Have any of these invitees mentioned getting one

Reuters is pretty trustworthy so I would buy it as being legit.

It's surely got to be something MORE than just a watch and an iPhone or two? Really has. They wouldn't need to go to so much effort for those.

This is the best mockup in my opinion. Then there's this recent one based on iPhone 6 design which I absolutely love

Then you're going to be extremely disappointed by what Apple shows us next week. You're way better off with Samsung or Moto's watches because there is no way Apple would release something so big and fugly.

Reuters speaks to a general audience. When they write "top editor" they're probably thinking "an editor".

Fashion people would consider people like Grace Coddington or Carine Roitfeld to be top editors.

Yes. Especially with all the health sensors, a band is a perfect workout pairing.

But then again I could also see the benefits of a more tradition watch as well. Can't wait to see what they unveil!

At this point I think I'm hoping for a simple subdued band I can wear on my other wrist, so I can keep wearing classy analog watches on my watch wrist.

But really, it will depend on how compelling the iWatch is. Unlike many here, I'm withholding judgement until I actually see the thing. Regardless, as a shareholder, I'm excited for Apple entering any new product category. I was a naysayer about the iPod and iPhone, and have since owned several of each. I learned my lesson and wasn't a naysayer for the iPad (though it took a few years to get to the point where I wanted to buy one), and I won't be a naysayer for the iWatch. Whether or not I personally buy an iWatch, I'm definitely not going to predict the doom of Apple over it.

To put in another way: how much do you spend per year on clothes? How much do you spend per year on gadgets?

You'll find that the sum total for all people, fashion is bigger.

Attractive clothes are a more basic need for people than gadgets.

Who buys new cloths when you can buy a gadget instead? :D

SNAP IN

What if Apple could make a deal with companies like omega, Rolex, any and all other watch makers where the Apple Watch could "snap in" to very high end watch casings manufactured by those companies?

I hope there's a more utilitarian version as well. If I wear a watch I want it to look like elegant, well-designed technology. Not jewellery.

I must be missing something....is a watch not a piece of jewellery that looks elegant?

They missed out on a golden opportunity to schedule this event in NY, though.

There are possibly tens of thousands of media outlets and blogs working fashion week, each leading to thousands more viewers.

Those fashion folks who understand this nascent trend will make an effort to attend. Those old school ones will stay in NY.

It's perrrfect !

If they get old school fashion specialists to evaluate products way out of their vision, they may not be able to understand it.
