Camera trick that is NOT new to IOS4, but very useful and most people I show it to had no clue you could do it. Very useful for getting that perfect picture. I hope this is helpful to some of you.

When you have the camera open, place and hold your finger on the shutter button. When you are ready to take the picture, just lift your finger off the button and the shutter will click. This helps eliminate those jittery pics due to trying to tap the screen while trying to hold the phone still.

This isn't so much applicable to iOS 4, as it is iPhone 4, but I have noticed that I can use my iP4 with the original dock from my 2G iPhone!

3G and 3GS would not fit, but since this new phone has straight angles, it works just fine. :)

Anyone else notice that the "weree" shortcut on 3.x used to turn it into we're? It's not there anymore. I'm on an iPhone 4 and it really bugs...

You may need to "teach" your phone this correction.

Type it incorrectly a few times, and correct it.

Not really very useful, and it isn't entirely permanent - but you can have a blank page on the home screen.

When you hold an app to make the apps moveable, open a folder, then press the lock button on the top of the phone.
When you unlock the phone now, the last page on the home screen is blank. (apps are no longer moveable. ie: Like normal.)

Entirely useless though unless you want to see your background picture fully. And the next time you open any folder, it disappears.

You could just drag your icons to the second page, and start from there. I did that, specifically to have a screen with dock+wallpaper only.

It is also important to note that when you install new apps via app store, they DO NOT automatically fill the space on that empty first page.

It takes a few minutes the first time, but it is worth it for me (and judging by the wallpaper threads, it is worth it to many others as well.)

How do u use the birthday calender? I'm always forgetting birthdays!

The way I'm dealing with birthdays is to add the date to the contact in the address book. Honestly, the address book has become my central repository for all my contact information... emails, phones, addresses, birthdays, etc. You can add so much to your contacts.

In your calendar, hit the top left "calendars" button and select "birthdays". Now on your calendar you will see anyone's birthday from your contact list. It will show with a red dot to differentiate it from other activities.

Hope that helps!

Like Johnny Carson used to say "I DID NOT know that."

That's awesome! that way I don't have to look down again in order to snap the shutter. Thank you!

Did iOS4 fix the calendar issue where you couldn't edit an event to change its calendar name? If you had five calendars (meaning calendars with different names and colors), you couldn't edit an event to change its calendar name. It was permanently stuck with that calendar name. I couldn't believe it had this bug.

FYI black and white is much easier on the eyes. Leave the rainbows to rain and Skittles.

yes.

Neat trick, but I notice you cannot touch the screen to have the box hightlight your main focus or zoom in. You need to do that before and then hold the shutter button down, but a cool trick.

Is that how the iphone learns your misspelling? My 3GS was way better at guessing my spelling than the iPhone 4. I cannot tell you how many times I want to type "him" and it auto corrects to "Jim."

How do you make the correction? Click the little x in a circle to tell it "no I do not want "Jim" and then backspace to fix it? I am fairly certain I have done that, but I honestly feel like the new phone is doing a terrible job of autocorrecting. I could type fast on the 3GS with one hand knowing it would autocorrect and was 95% error free.

Finding the same issues here, PDACPA. In my case, I was coming from a 3G.

Is this new?

When in iPod if you double tap the album artwork, it brings up the list of songs from that album instead of having to click on the icon at the top right.

Very helpful as I always miss when tapping that icon.

My 3GS was infinitely better at guessing what I was intending to type than the 4 has been so far. the 3GS always corrected "jb" to "in," which is what I wanted; I have yet to see the 4 get that one.

I know it's probably being mentioned before, or was a feature announced when iOS 4.0 was announched but you can now slide to unlock phone then have a text password instead of the 4 number code. I didn't know about it until I was just playing about with the settings the other day. Been wanting this feature for a while :)

Glad to hear I was not the only one with this issue. I could type fast and in many cases with the phone in my left hand with my left thumb alone and be damn accurate.

Not sure if it just needs time to learn, but it keeps making the same error (well I make the same error and it does not fix it correctly) after repeated corrections. Maybe 4.1?
