Apple iPhone 4 Dock + Bumper=?

Just saying guys, but it's the apple iphone 4 dock. Apple never said nothing about an "iphone 4 + bumper dock". It's sold as the iphone 4 dock, so really the notion that it only fits the iphone 4 makes sense. C'mon guys, if they did an iphone 4 + bumper dock, a lot of users would start saying "omg, apple didn't design the dock to fit just my iphone, what kind of fail is going on in that company!?!?"

and with the iphone 3g/s dock, it didn't fit any cases either right?

Apple is just a company selling a product to the mass market, don't expect them to tailor everything to your needs.

I wouldn't care if the dock didn't fit any third-party cases, but this is an Apple branded case...I also feel the same about the Apple iPad case and its incompatibility to fit the iPad dock.

Hi.

I'm expecting delivery of my iPhone 4 in a couple of days and the bumper problem occurred to me too just before I was about to purchase the iPhone 4 dock from Apple.

However, not sure if you guys are already aware, but both docks below claim to charge an iPhone 4 while a bumper is fitted:

this thread is a mess -

so which dock from Apple works with charging while the Bumper is on?
 
heres mine..universal apple dock...best part is that i can use the remote :p using it without the adapter looks fugly..looks better with a mod adapter..plus holds it in place..using it with out the adapter seems flimsy and might break the dock pins..just be careful if your are using adapter on a universal apple dock

I have a second gen universal dock, and it cant charge my iPhone 4 + case :(

I will take off the top like others have as I refuse to spend any more dosh on docks!

LYCO Adapter + Apple Universal Dock! Now I can dock my iPhone in a case.

I finally found the solution to docking my iPhone 4 with a case still on. I found the LYCO Adapter at www.synthecept.com. It looks like they also just came out with a short video showing the LCYO working with an iPhone 3G which can be seen here. :D Very happy now that I can dock my phone properly!!!

These things only work to add support to a dock that already works but is loose. This will not make an phone with a case work in an Iphone 4 dock.
 
Hi I was wondering about this today as well. I don't believe you should have to modify a $40 dock to fit something made by the same company, so I searched on eBay. I found a dock that claims to fit the bumper, search for "iPhone 4 dock bumper". I have no relation with the seller.

I had high hopes, and not unreasonable requests. I just wanted it to be used with the iPhone 4 with a case on, and charge the phone.

Well it fits great with different cases. I tried my speck candyshell, speck pixelskin hd, incase sliders etc. It charges, but the phone recognizes the dock as some sort of audio piece, so it turns off all the sound, no calls, no texts, no alarms etc. Obviously I cannot use this because of it.

Will an iphone 4 with incase snap case fit in the iphone 4 dock? It's pretty open on the bottom except for the corners. Thanks for any input.
 
Check these out

I am very pissed at apple. First the reception issues, then my iPhone4 got al scratched around the corners because of their own bumper, now the mic on my headphones stoped working, and finally their own dock won't fit their own bumper. I don't know who it was but somebody said that if they had made the dock fit the bumper people would think that they screwed up the design, well, I think anybody who would think that is actually stupid and therefore there shouldn't be any worries.
Anyone know if i can return my dock if i don't have the case nor the manuals and I have had it for some time now?

What is a "mod adapter"? Can you be a little more specific please. Do you have a link to a 3rd party product that you might be referring to here?

I just bought an iPhone with the Bumper case and I'm looking for a dock to use with it. I mistakenly bought the Apple dock made specifically for the iPhone 4. Thankfully I didn't open it because I've now read that it's incompatible with the Bumper case. Maybe the Apple sales people will be able to advise me toward a solution.

Kinda bummed that Apple's own product doesn't fit with Apple own product!

the dock adapter is a 1st gen iphone just used a dremel tool to shave off the bottom so the bummper will slide down in the pin charger...fits a nice fit with the bumper but i dont case on myiphone 4 anymore:cool:
 
this is how i did it

I managed to use the universal dock with an Iphone 4 with apple's bumper using a Ipod 5G adapter (I just happened to have one), I had to cut, burn and file the bottom of it.

The new Apple Bumper has a wider opening for dock connector. I just got one and it's much better than the original.
 
Managed to cut out the middle part of the universal dock, and replaced it with some thin White photographic paper. Works like a charm
