Um, you do realize you are on a Mac fan site, don't you? You sound as though you have a chip on your shoulder in regards to Apple itself by outwardly attacking their advertising of one particular product. By holding Apple to such high standards and accusing them of advertising "plagiarism", you should hold every company and their advertisements to those same standards. Actively criticizing a commercial as being "unoriginal" is unoriginal and pompous and completely misses the point of the advertisement: to be entertained.

There's a war in Iraq, some perspective would be nice.

Now then, let's go sue Danny Elfman who modeled the Simpson
cartoon's musical prologue on that of "The Jetsons," why don't we?

I liked the commercials. It made me feel all fuzzy inside. My parents liked the commercial as well. Nothing BRILLIANT, but still a well done commercial in my opinion.

Funny Story about copying, I had a project where I needed to design a logo of a clock and had no clue where to start. Someone told me to just google and copy a clock a like to be used in part of my design. He claimed it works for him all the time. In the end I ended up not needing to do so, but if I got desperate I may of considered it.

lol

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery...... (unless you're
MS, of course) Now, why don't we locate and post the '95
Marclay so that we can compare the two objectively.......

Csi

They played the ad again tonight during CSI Miami. Not sure if anyone had mentioned that yet. IN FACT, they are playing it this very instant at 11:46 on Cartoon Network. So, Oscars, CSI, Family Guy. Where else is it being shown?

Hello...

Most amazing, the amount of money Apple put down for those two Oscars spots could fund over forty separate 30 sec. commercial spots per day for an entire month. We'll likely be seeing that ad popping up everywhere...

Hello Ad Just Ran On 24 In 720P Same As ABC - 1080i Transmission Came On CSI Miami

9:46 PM East & Pacific this evening the Apple "Hello" iPhone Ad ran on this evening's episode of "24". :) But only in the same 720P as ABC. 10:44PM the first 1080i transmission finally took place on CBS' CSI Miami. :p

Will post Native 1920x1080P and iPod Compatible 624x352 rips soon.

Already noted (but thanks anyway :)). I think the commercial is great and I'm glad to see Apple pushing the iPhone a bit this early.

Still, I don't see them talking about the iPhone more anytime soon. They should probably discuss the Mac soon...you can't expect them to update Macs around Christmas (so late November/December usually won't see updates) but with Macworld being Mac-less I'd hope to see something tomorrow or next Tuesday relating to Macs.

Otherwise, we are talking 1/4 of the year without any reference to their computers...a bit strange, right???

I kinda figured we'd never see it again because it really just fit the oscars. Aside from that it's kinda blah in my book. The font at the end is extremely un apple. What is that, verdana? You don't see the phone long enough, and the phone has that busy fish background going on. I'm thinking the nice blue OSX desktop background would be better. They can be cheeky all they want, but not mentioning the phone seems bizarre as well. Sure, everyone knows by now, (if they're techno geeks like us) but most people have only fleeting knowlege. It's only up there for about 1 second.

I also figured we wouldn't see it again because of the cost. The royalties on using some of the biggest hit movies of all time in one commercial must've been enormous. I thought possibly they got permission just for a teaser at the oscars. But to use it every day as a commercial? Surely not.

AND, why no 3 stooges? Hello, hello, hello! :p

Do you mean they'll stop advertising it from now until June? If that's what you're suggesting, then Apple wasted a lot of money advertising something that still won't be available for 4 months. If Apple's advertising dept. has any marketing savvy, it will know that it needs to maintain the iPhone's mindshare for the next 4 months in order to have a successful launch. Of course, that's a lot of advertising, but there are 2 possible reasons for this:

1. Apple really expects to sell a lot more than 10 million units.
2. Apple wants ppl to think about the iPhone when they are considering getting a new phone, and maybe hold off on signing a new long-term contract.

With respect to Macs, I think new Mac Pros are coming, but probably not until the end of March. Then, after Leopard at the end of April, the rest of the Macs can be updated at the end of May.

Good points. Royalties are likely up there. Don't know why Jerry Lewis won over the 3 stooges, that would have worked well. Perhaps they felt the Stooges would better represent the Zune Phone.... Hello, Hello, Hello...... (ascending major triad, way out of tune) again, Hello, Hello, Hello...... damn, this Zphone keeps crappin' out on me:mad:

That makes sense, why refresh the Mac lineup before Leopard? This would only create more labor for Apple in regard to designing machines that can run both OS 10.4.9, and 10.5. With NAB is coming up April 14 and Leopard around the corner, it would only make sense to hold off until then.

I liked it all and all. Now if apple would get as serious in advertising the mac as much as itunes and the ipod the mac could get even more marketshare.

I doubt we will find much evidence that the iPhone spot on The Oscars had much of any effect. It just wasn't very interesting nor was it memorable.

If I wasn't paying super close attention to the commercial, or looking for it, I wouldn't know what the heck it was for. If it weren't for all the movie clips and royalties that needed to be worked out, as well as booking the ad spot well in advance, I would have guessed this commercial was rushed and done in a weekend.

It was cute, but not compelling.

The post by Multimedia about scooping the shotlist which someone else also posted a version of, one of which was the original list and one expanded with further details (now shifted by Arn to a group editable thing), made me think of my scooping the hello aspect:

Page 3 Post 61 My post about hello
Page 5 Post 104 someone posting the image of a Mac+, etc.
Page 10 Post 230 someone commenting on hello

There may be others.

What I hope people will take away from my post is that Steve Jobs himself decided to do BOTH. He sees the iPhone/Apple Phone/ATN as a new PLATFORM.

Note well what I notice. The Mac Plus was released at something like $2600 retail with 004.7 mhz and monochrome display and 128k memory and a 400k floppy and SCSI, an INNOVATIVE MOUSE

iphone (ATN :) ) will be released at something like --ONLY-- $600 retail with 700 mhz and HIGHER resolution deep color display, and about 500,000k memory and a 8,000,000 k solid state drive and WIRELESS ACCESS TO UNLIMITED EXTERNAL STORAGE. an INNOVATIVE MULTI-TOUCH POINTING DEVICE INTEGRATED TO THE DISPLAY.

Hello indeed.

Rocketman

OBTW the ATN is about the size of two Mac+ floppy discs and about three times the thickness of them. I wonder when we will see someone make an iPhone dock for their Mac+ floppy slot? :)

Haven't read the rest of this thread but my 2p about the ad is I really like it, very appropriate for the Oscars and very true Apple-style - not showing too much off in their ads!

Eberg "Inside Your Head" The Remixes Maxi-Single Only At iTunes For $5.94

Now that we've had a few days to appreciate all the stars and their films that their now infamous "Hello"s have found new life in, I'd like to turn our attention to the musical bed used in the ad which incidentally was rebroadcast Monday evening on both "24" and "CSI Miami". The artist is Eberg and he has a lovely website with 6 free samples of his songs totalling 8:34.

His Inside Your Head MP3 sample is 1:22 long (this links to the free mp3 audio download).

Now if you really love "Inside Your Head", last September 25, 2006 he published a Maxi-Single of 6 remixes of the song totalling 25:18. I poked around the internet and NOBODY has it for sale outside of the iTunes Store for $5.94.

So there you have it folks. I bought it this morning and can report you will not be disappointed. Great set of remixes. Only wish he would make more. Love this song.

that was the worst add ever. i was so upset:( but i forgive you sj, the iphone will rule them all!!!:apple: :apple: :apple: :apple:
