Apple is aware of your cosmetic issues [Read]

If you swap your phone at an Apple store, then yes the original box will show a different serial number, but Apple provide you with all of the exchange paperwork which will give you a full record to show a prospective buyer.

I know this from having had to previously replace my 3GS because of light bleed around a poorly sealed screen.

they also give you a sticker to put on your box with the new s/n (iPhone 4s replacement)

How odd, I definitely didn't get a sticker with my 3GS swap here in the UK. It didn't matter though, because the paperwork was very thorough and all on official Apple Store paper.

Yup, I've never gotten one either and I've swapped 3 different things in the last 3 years.

Just swapped my blemished one for a new one at the Apple store and at least they let me keep all the accessories from the first one along with the ones from the new one. That's a good $50+ worth... customer service goes a long way.

Out of the box my iPhone 5 has 2 tiny scratches on the tip left of the glass and a missing bit of "color" slightly to the right of that on the bezel. Is it worth talking to Apple about? I feel like it's insignificant.

What do the other damaged phones look like?

No scratches on mine, but on the lower right antenna, right where it meets the screen, there's a blue spec/dot that can't be scratched off w/ my fingernail. Think they'll replace it for this?

Personally, I'd just touch that with a black sharpie and be done. My issues were showing bare aluminum.

Thank you for the information!

OK, nothing happened today::confused:

Since AppleCare Advisor referred me to the Apple Store, I visited 2 of them today. I asked several times about the availability and he assured me there will be one for me if he can get me an appointment. Unfortunately there were NONE left in both stores (lincoln park and michigan ave.), they checked the phone and put additional notes into my case. Both geniuses also advised me to call AppleCare back to demand a shipping instead of in-store swap.

Later I talked to AppleCare, they are also all sold out(!), even the swap phones till mid October, and they put another not into my case that they will call me whenever there is some availability.

Is this really true that APPLECARE does not have a single phone to replace my phone?

BTW, I was not offered anything for the inconvenience, even though I politely mentioned about other people who were given away little things, she changed the subject...

I had also similar blue things around the front glass, I used a toothpick to gently scrape them. To me it is a sort of glue.

You got yours off?

Update: Pretty sure I got mine off scratching it lightly with a needle.

Hey guys so I bought an iPhone 5 32gb and im the same place as most of you. I noticed 3 cosmetic issues and there is a preclick sound on my home button which is really annoying.
The thing is I bought this with AT&T if I would've bought with apple they would've replaced it with out any questions asked. I called att they told me to call apple. I called apple and they set up a Genius Bar meeting. I went to the store today turns out my meeting was tomorrow and my email says today. Bunch of bull, but They were about to replace it until the sales representative at apple asked for a receipt and saw it was AT&T! He was an ass and now I have to go back to apple tomorrow in hopes of a replacement. People who bought from AT&T share you dam experience some of us need help. AT&T was not cooperative at all they didn't want to be liable and just sent me to apple

Just got off the phone with Apple they are going to send me a SuperDrive for free, I told them my story about driving 2 hrs to get a different black 32 Verizon model after the one I got from them came scratched...I got a new phone but still has a slight chip on the left side only noticeable at a certain angle.

The customer service woman told me their was nothing she could send me for my phone and asked what other products I have, I first tried for a Thunderbolt Display but that was a no go haha go figure then I asked about the drive and she was more then happy to get one sent to me over night free of charge.

If you bought yours from a 3rd party(wireless carrier/retail outlet) you are screwed.

I was on the phone for over an hour with Apple and they said they can't offer me a replacement because they are out of stock, and that I should go to the retailer to get a refund/replacement.

The retailer I went to(RadioShack) doesn't have any either, and doesn't want to help me out in anyway by reserving one that comes in next. I can't get through to their corporate line(big surprise) either.

So yeah, new phone, nice lovely chip in the back! Thanks Apple!

I guess this would be same for Apple Store purchases, it seems they don't have in stock.

Waited in a long line early hours of Friday to get my white phone5. Came back home to fine tiny dents on the edges on the metal like it was hit to something hard. Rushed to store on Sat and luckily got a replacement. It was the last piece they had left! There was another lady in the store complaining of a scratch. I was surprised Apple would sell uninspected devices. Lucky that my local apple store is in a smaller town and did not sell out very fast.

Since my 2 white 16 ones came scratched/dented. I called Apple CS. They ordered me 2 new ones with overnight. I was concerned about waiting 4 weeks. They assured me that it will be one week or less. Within few hours, I saw the orders inside the pending returns online and they are already in preparing for shipment stage yesterday evening. I was pleased and hopeful that the replacements would be fine! I asked the rep about the issue, He stated that he have gotten quite few cases already and said the replacements would be flawless.

So, we hope he's correct! Like lot of posts here, It definitely looks like machining issues. But what puzzles me is those iPhones go through lot of "human touch" between machining and shipment as in putting them together, etc. Why didn't those workers toss those defect cases? That would have saved lot of trouble on our hands! And Apple also! *shake my head* at Foxconn.. Wrong time to do this!
