I was able to order 2 pairs from the Michigan Ave location in Chicago just now for in store Pick-Up available today. Some other stores say "available tomorrow" in the NYC area.

These updates, particularly the Chicago one, all happened within the last hour or so. Keep checking, they may be popping up any time of day at this point.

It looks like Michigan Ave still has some pick-up stock available at the time of this writing.

I ordered a pair off the website on Thursday (12-14). It quoted a Jan 5 delivery date. Tonight, I received shipment notification. So, looks like they’re not actually sold out through 1/5 despite what the website shows.

I am one of those people that wish they were black/space grey instead. If they ever will be, I'll get them. As it is now, even with this shortage - where I live I could buy them and get them immediately as they are in stock here but nope.

Apple Store employees and the Apple website state very directly that the wireless charging case will be separate, that there will not be a version of the headphones that ships with the wireless charger. Yeah, they could change their mind. But I doubt it. This thing is easy profit.
Would you point me to where the Apple website states this? I’ve looked but can’t find it. Thanks.

Didja consider how bad the delivery times would be _without_ that supply chain genius?
Doesn't seem anyone else is delivering comparable products at all.

Sold out under extreme demand is a "flop"? You keep using that word; I do not think it means what you think it means.
It's called sarcasm. it is easily detectable to anyone with half a brain.

It was pretty clear in the keynote address that it was the _case_ that provides wireless charging, not the earphones themselves.
Besides, there just isn't space inside the earphones to accommodate charging circuitry at this stage of technology - at 5 hours of "listening time", any & all available room should be crammed with more battery. Only when they get to 24hr runtimes should they start trying to squeeze wireless charging into available space.

Slight adjustment for you. That said the Stasi weren't nice people according to history, but to brand the whole of the East Nazi is incorrect.
Interesting viewpoint. With that logic the only republicans in USA are the employees of Homeland Security...

I feel like you've missed his point. The Trabant was produced in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), a communist state established in the Soviet occupation zone after the Nazis had lost the war.

If you were planning to purchase AirPods as a last-minute holiday gift, it may be challenging to find a pair in time for Christmas.

Apple's wireless earphones are currently estimated for delivery in early January if ordered today from Apple's online store in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, and several other countries.

AirPods are also currently out of stock at most of Apple's retail stores around the world, and at authorized resellers such as Best Buy, Macy's, Target, Walmart, and Verizon in the United States. Bottom line: they're hard to find anywhere.

At $159, AirPods are a more affordable gift idea than many Apple products, which may be causing stronger demand than Apple can keep up with.

If you are still hunting for AirPods, there may be one option. AT&T appears to have stock on its website, but you may have to pay an extra $14.95 for express delivery within 2-3 business days, and there is no guarantee they'll arrive before Christmas.

Other gifts available by Christmas for under $200, and that an Apple fan is likely to appreciate, include the Apple TV 4K, BeatsX, an official Apple-branded iPhone case, Apple Watch bands, or simply an Apple Store or Apple Music gift card.

Apple's online store is now offering free next-day delivery for all in-stock items ordered by 3 p.m. local time on December 22 in the United States.

Whenever I see someone wearing these I just think they look dorky. Just don’t really get the allure of them — just EarPods without wires and with the same mediocre sound. I picked up a pair of Studio 2s for a little more than the price of AirPods but they don’t look stupid and they sound amazing.
I'd like to see you stuff those Studio 2s into your jeans pockets. And, if you were Studio 2s around on the street, you'd look worse then dorky. Not saying the Studio 2s don't have a better sound - but you're comparing apple's and oranges here. It's whatever is important to you. If you actually tried them day-to-day, found how completely they remove the hassle of wires and connecting and charging you probably wouldn't say "Just don't really get the allure" - unless you don't care about those things. Everyone's different.

I tried them at launch, but less than a month in I found they’re worthless if your activity levels are anything more than walking or sitting, which is perfect, since most people do only that. I ended up giving them away.

I prefer my black PowerBeats3, not to mention the battery life. Still has a W1 chip, too!

Funny, I hike, play tennis, and ping pong with them in and they never fall out.

Two of the Apple stores near me have them when I last checked about an hour ago. Looks like they have stock coming in occasionally at various stores.

Just checked my local Best Buy (Daytona Beach) and they have them in stock. I was in there about a week ago and saw probably 15 sets in a locked case.

I don't know any Audiophiles who consider Beats X even passible.

Yeah I didn’t think I‘d like them and I didn’t expect much from a Beats product, but since I got them for free with my iPad I thought I‘d get and try them. Wouldn’t have bought them though. And I have to say I am very pleasantly surprised by sound quality, bass isn’t too exaggerated, highs could be a little clearer and have more depth of sound but overall the headphones have quite good and pleasant sound.

And I‘d consider myself an audiophile since I‘ve been in bands, worked as DJ and hosted events for more than ten years and who always invested much in equipment, tried and compared a lot. My current hifi as reference is an Elac 2.1 bi-amped through $100/m premium speaker cable from an high-end amp with much effort in setup and room acoustics. An other league, sure, but being used to that the Beats X in comparison aren’t too shabby, absolutely passable and definitely good enough for commuting (which is my only use for headphones).

Offering a new case for sale on it’s own doesn’t preclude bundling it with AirPods.

My guess is that AirPods will come with the new case early next year.

The wireless case will come standard when the demand dies down. Who knows when that will be, but Apple has no incentive to improve the product when they can't keep the current version in stock.

Apple could obviously sell ice to a penguin.

I see hundreds of people wearing in-ears every day on the way to work and back on the train - know how many I recognise ? One, the apple ones as they’re so distinctive - every other brand in the world would kill for that visibility.

I just received an email from Apple to promote Christmas gift, the mail goes like buy online and come to the Apple store, products are ready to deliver in an hour. AirPods is in the mail among other stuff like Apple Watch, the 4K Apple TV etc.
If I buy them I get the delivery in January, but they're listed as available in all AS in Italy so it is true I can pick them up in an hour.

Sounds like they’re a better fit for your ears! Everybody is different! Our definitions of hiking and sports are likely different as well.
