Fortunately, I ordered some (as a gift) online before picking them up in the store. By the time I got to the store on Friday, they were already sold out. They pushed the in store pick up to January 7th.

I have Beatsx and I am happy enough with them.

$160 bucks to listen to your $800 device because your device's ability to use a $10 device, which you have several of, was courageously omitted to sell you the $160 device for more padding of the Apple offshore accounts; but, on the positive side, they are forcing their cult members to get more exercise since they now have to bend over to retrieve their expensive do-dad every time one falls out.

You still have the ability to use your current wired headphones plus one is actually provided with the phone itself, so your argument is null and void.

Can anybody please explain why people like them? The EarPods have absolutely atrocious audio quality. Very tinny. How can these possibly be any better?
No one has ever claimed AirPods sound better than EarPods. They've claimed that the AirPods sound as good as EarPods, which is quite an accomplishment for fully wireless headphones without a headband or neckband. Whether you like the audio quality of EarPods relative to everyone else's experience is your deal.

Love mine, most innovative product Apple has released in years.
Use mine for running/weight lifting, never had them fall out.

If I could make two changes it would be different colours and some touch sensitive ability to change volume.

Just checked Best Buy here in San Diego, the website reports they are not available anywhere within 250 miles. Doesn't sound like hype to me.

Edit to add I just checked Best Buy for zip code 55101 (St Paul, MN), they are also reporting no stock within 250 miles, so I call BS.

Glue factories must have gone flat.
(Sorry for that. Can't imagine a trillion dollar company planning its provisioning this bad)

Blimey. I didn't realise that Apple AirPods were the only earphones that work with the new iPhones.

To be fair that is pretty bad. I'm just glad there are people like you on forums to publicise this sort of thing.

I live in NYC and I've seen only two commuters with airpods on in the subway so far this year. I personally listen to SONY MDR1000X pair when I'm commuting.
Those Sony cans are great in noisy environments. I have a pair mostly for air travel, long-distance road trips (passenger) and noisy offices. Perfect if I plan to be listening to music for a while. Bulky, but worth carrying.

My AirPods, OTOH, are made for everyday impromptu listening. They're small enough to take everywhere - regardless of whether or not I think I'll use them.

They're not.

Every iPhone that doesn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack ships with a free 3.5mm to Lightning adapter in the box (so you can still use all of the $10 headphones you have, just like you could with older iPhones). You can't charge the iPhone and use 3.5mm headphones at the same time, though.

On top of that, the new iPhone (just like the old ones) supports virtually every manufacturers Bluetooth headsets, so even then, Apple AirPods are not the only choice.

Apart from the fear of losing a pod, have you ever felt that in heavily crowded places such as say a bus/ train/ tube wherein people might be neck to neck, someone might just yank one out of your ear?

No one cares about wired, but seeing as they are wireless, I fancy that hooligans might just be more emboldened at having a go at it. At $200 here in India, this is serious money for headphones (I got my ATH M50x for $120) albeit with wireless tech and convenience, and about the only thing that prevents me from buying is that fear of theft.

If its that crowded, I'm not sure they'd get far after grabbing your earphone, or even be that bold in such a busy environment.

This is like people cutting fingers off when touch ID came out - imagining some ludicrous scenario that in any reasonable likelihood just isn't going to happen.

Love the convenience, hate the design. Listening experience is awful. It's like just noise coming through the AirPods. The standard wired ones sound better.

I'll get them again once they tweak the design and make the sound better.

When these pods are in-ear, I’ll consider purchasing them. Otherwise, not worth it. Design and sounds are meh.

If you never test them dont speak...because you embarrass yourself
No kidding, I was totally opposed to the idea,

then I tried a pair. :D

Fantastic device.

My wife got me them as an early Christmas present. I like them, but the double tap to pause/play is a bit finicky.

You have to tap right on the bend. I agree, it takes getting used to but now I have it down now and it's very consistent. There is a bit of delay while it takes effect.

Let me guess: you're "asking for a friend." :D

I'll just assume that you are not insinuating anything? I was actually curious as I do not own any W1 Chip Devices. After spending many hours over the past week finishing my holiday shopping I asked myself. I would see dozens upon dozens of people walking around with these in their ears. Many seemed very vulnerable to having them plucked out.

Another person was kind enough to state a recharging case is required to reset the W1. ;)
[doublepost=1513627693][/doublepost]
Nope. Just have to put them in a battery case, hold the back button to reset, open the case and the W1 chip looks for a nearby device to pair with.

Thank you. :apple:

I already see them everyday in my commute to the city (big metro). These are becoming the new white headphones that iPods popularized.
Good to hear! Those too initially had a big stigma of looking ridiculous. I guess the general public got tired of ridiculing them, and the tide turned!

Apple could obviously sell ice to a penguin.

It’s funny. I’m willing to drop more than $1000 on an iPhone X but not another $159 in addition to that on AirPods. I’d love to have a pair but I just know that I’m going to lose one or both of them. I might as well take $160 and light it on fire.

How well does “Find My AirPods” work? I have enough trouble keeping track of my Apple TV remote, iPhone and Apple Watch. I wish Apple would use Bluetooth to allow users to have the iPhone emit an audio tone if you’re looking for one of those other devices and are near it but can’t see it.
well if you wear your Watch, then you can ping your phone from your wrist; just swipe up from the bottom of your Watch screen and tap the icon that looks like your iPhone. You did know this, right? I would hope, given your username on here.

If you were planning to purchase AirPods as a last-minute holiday gift, it may be challenging to find a pair in time for Christmas.

Apple's wireless earphones are currently estimated for delivery in early January if ordered today from Apple's online store in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, and several other countries.

AirPods are also currently out of stock at most of Apple's retail stores around the world, and at authorized resellers such as Best Buy, Macy's, Target, Walmart, and Verizon in the United States. Bottom line: they're hard to find anywhere.

At $159, AirPods are a more affordable gift idea than many Apple products, which may be causing stronger demand than Apple can keep up with.

If you are still hunting for AirPods, there may be one option. AT&T appears to have stock on its website, but you may have to pay an extra $14.95 for express delivery within 2-3 business days, and there is no guarantee they'll arrive before Christmas.

Other gifts available by Christmas for under $200, and that an Apple fan is likely to appreciate, include the Apple TV 4K, BeatsX, an official Apple-branded iPhone case, Apple Watch bands, or simply an Apple Store or Apple Music gift card.

Apple's online store is now offering free next-day delivery for all in-stock items ordered by 3 p.m. local time on December 22 in the United States.

Nah, I was just kidding. That's why I included the smiley emoticon. Sorry if my post was misunderstood.
