My local Apple Store showed them in stock today so I bought them online for in store pickup later in the day. Fingers crossed that they fit me well and that I like them.

So there still is some availability if you catch it at the right time.

Yeah I didn’t think I‘d like them and I didn’t expect much from a Beats product, but since I got them for free with my iPad I thought I‘d get and try them. Wouldn’t have bought them though. And I have to say I am very pleasantly surprised by sound quality, bass isn’t too exaggerated, highs could be a little clearer and have more depth of sound but overall the headphones have quite good and pleasant sound.

And I‘d consider myself an audiophile since I‘ve been in bands, worked as DJ and hosted events for more than ten years and who always invested much in equipment, tried and compared a lot. My current hifi as reference is an Elac 2.1 bi-amped through $100/m premium speaker cable from an high-end amp with much effort in setup and room acoustics. An other league, sure, but being used to that the Beats X in comparison aren’t too shabby, absolutely passable and definitely good enough for commuting (which is my only use for headphones).

I haven't heard a single pair of Beats that didn't have rolled off highs, muddy mid bass, and pathetic low bass. Mid range is ok but everything sounds like it's played through a wet towel thanks to that mid bass hump. It's like they're trying to be West Coast speakers without the highs or real lows. It's like a fake bass bose speaker. Equalizer helps correct this though, indicating the drivers are capable. I do tend to prefer accurate bass with clear sharp highs (NEVER HORNS THOUGH!) which is like the opposite sound signature of Beats.

Despite this, I still use powerbeats for the gym. They have pretty stellar build quality. Decided to get the wife AirPods instead of powerbeats, hopefully I chose correctly. I ordered for store pickup at Best Buy last week and had to drive 2 hours each way.

Have you tried the Beats X though? Whenever I tried any other of their headphones like the Solo and Studio on ears I found the same acoustics as you which I wouldn’t like, but as I said I am very pleasantly surprised by Beats X sound. My Elac speakers are known for being neutral, sterile even so I wouldn’t like the typical exaggerated Beats sound but I like these headphones better than I thought I would. Sure, there is something missing in low bass and highs clarity but the overall sound and package is really quite good. Probably wouldn’t be sufficient to me if they were my primary listening devices but for on-the-go, I think they are an incredibly good deal and offer better sound than you would expect for their price.

AirPods will sure be a good choice and to me are more awe-inspiring and seem like devices of the future, offering all that technology in such a small package.

I buy a lot of head/earphones and Beats X are terrible. The sound is very tinny and poor quality & I can't recommend them at all.

I had hoped it could be improved via a firmware update, but nope. Nothing. A product to avoid like the plague if you want good audio quality from your earphones.

Interesting to hear they departed from their usual sound signature. I've only heard Powerbeats 2, Beats solo, and a few other over the ear Beats headphones, all of which suffered the same problems I initially described. I think if your looking for good sounding speakers, you're talking a pair of ATH-M50s (same price as AirPods) or better yet Sennheiser HD 650s ($300 on amazon) and beyond. Earbud headphones will never sound great, and using words like "sound good" is incredibly generous. This is why I've purchased PowerBeats and personally love them and would do so again in a heartbeat (although I'd give the AirPods a thought). I'm not looking for honest sound from them, just a reliable, convenient, durable pair of comfortable water resistant headphones to take to the gym. Beats headphones have impressive build quality, especially when you compare them to the just as expensive, slightly better sounding, but built like absolute crab Bose headphones.

Ordered mine on Sunday with free std shipping, shipped today, delivery scheduled Saturday.

Or not. Shipping status bumped to Tuesday. Grrrrr...

My own damn fault since I planned to get these at the Apple store but procrastinated for no good reason. It didn’t occur to me that they would sell out.

Bumped to Tuesday but arrived today (Sunday).

Merry Christmas!

Apple shows a 7 day delivery estimate on the Apple Store. I was just in an Airport Duty Free store which had about a dozen, sitting out in the open on a table, for $210 -- a $50 markup -- but hey, no duty!!
