Actually the iMac 24 is $200 more expensive than Macbook Pro 13 with same configuration. Macbook Pro 16 with M1 Pro is $2499 and with M1 Max is $3499.

So I think we can fairly assess the price of the 27 inch iMac. And that is if we assume that there won’t be a M1 model. Which if released could be priced as low as $1,799. But its highly unlikely that Apple would release a entry level iMac with a mini LED display.
I don’t think comparing prices with the older style MacBooks a very accurate way of guesstimating the price of a future iMac. It’s more than just the processor. You have to count the cost of the Touch Bar and battery that the iMac doesn’t have. Then you have to figure out profit margins which might not be the same for the MacBook versus iMac. If anything I would say the price of the older models could be used as something Apple would work towards. If they’re trying to cover the same market they might go for a similar price but then of course you have to calculate inflation which has been crazy lately.

$1000 for a 24 inch display is laughable. Apple has totally lost any sense of reality when it comes to their prices.
It will likely be 27” and will probably be $2500. I just don’t see them making a 24” display in 2022. No they haven’t lost any sense of reality because they’re a multi billion dollar company that has sales going continuously up. Just because you don’t want to pay a certain price doesn’t mean someone else won’t

A multi-trillion dollar company 💝 :apple:

If the 24 inch has 120 refresh I’ll be interested. Happy to have it without stand to save on cost. I’ll Gorilla Tape it to the wall
wouldn't you rather just buy a gaming monitor then? the 24" won't have miniLED and a gaming monitor has "real" 120/144hz unlike the "fake" ProMotion display which has WORST IN CLASS pixel response.

Why? Sure, there might be cheaper displays, but comes with cheaper quality. I don’t think a ~$1000 display is totally unreasonable for a 24” display. But to be fair, I’d have to see the specs’ first.

I personally, think you’d be very surprised how many people would want a standalone display direct from Apple.

We’ll, Id certainly consider all options, yes.

Apple needs to get real with the quality a consumer NEEDS for a consumer monitor. How can they make a 27" iMac and charge $2100 for it but make a 27" monitor (with no computer) and charge $2500? Just sell the fricken 27" monitor that you used with the 27" iMac already. If it was good enough for the consumer then, it is good enough for us now. My husband does not need a fancy monitor to work on his Excel spreadsheet. He just needs a bigger screen. Consumers do boring things like view web pages, read email, write papers, etc. That doesn't require super flashy features. Dell makes a crappy 27" monitor for $250. Make a better consumer monitor that doesn't suck for $700. I'd buy that! My Excel spreadsheet husband who controls the budget would approve that purchase.

If it’s from LG, I’ll probably pass. I had a 21” 4K UltraFine and sold it for a 4K Dell U2720Q and couldn’t be happier. Its slightly fuzzier (it really should be 5K) but you would never know it unless comparing side by side. The backlight uniformity is SO much better, the colors are just as accurate and you gain minimal bezels, a larger size, and a better stand with more functionality. And it costs less. Apple makes fantastic computers that are worth their asking price but there are better options out there for standalone displays and they’re available now.

Apple is not going to release a $399 monitor in my opinion. If you’re holding out for that your hopes are going to get crushed. Amazon is flooded with monitors in that price range in that price range. Apple simply could not compete in that market with the profit margins they expect.
I’m not holding out for anything, I’m fine with with the display I have. I’m just stating my thoughts on what they COULD do, not what they will do.

You realize there’s tons of monitors already out there for that? A $250 monitor is going to be terrible but if you spend about $500 you can get a nice 4K monitor. The biggest thing is if you’re getting something larger like 27-32” then you want higher resolution. You want to avoid getting one in 1080P

Other than having an Apple logo what would be the purpose of Apple making a low end monitor for excel spreadsheets?

These will sell like hot cakes. I personally know so many people that are desperately waiting for a lower-priced Apple display. Instant buy!
At $5K not really selling like hot cakes, it'll sell a good number but these are not budget screens ;)

Honestly with Gurman's flip-flopping lately I'll see i when it's officially announced.

But I do welcome such a product :D

… nobody ever lost betting against an Apple product being expensive, but $2500? I don't buy it (figuratively, or literally I guess)

None of the Apple Silicon Macs have been more expensive than their Intel counterparts — mostly they've been a bit cheaper. It seems quite likely that the entry level 27" iMac will cost the same as the Intel iMac, so we're talking $1800.

Why would a 27" display — effectively an iMac minus the computer — cost more than an iMac?

I'm betting on $1500. Still expensive. Still a premium over the competition, including the LG. But not ludicrous money.

I've been waiting for this for a long time. They never should have left the game.

The question is/was: can they get that big fat Apple margin for a screen made by LG or similar with an Apple brand on it? Look through this thread. You have tremendous Apple fans scoffing at $2500, instead wanting it to be competitively-priced with LG and others. Sure, a pocket of this crowd will pay up for $600 wheels and thousand-dollar monitor stands because those are the ones from Apple, but will the masses pay that much more for Apple-branded LG screen instead of getting what may be the same screen with an LG tag on it?

Myself as example: after years with iMacs, even making my living on them, I want more screen RE. Instead of sticking 2 screens together, I want an ultra-wide. So it is looking more and more likely that my next "Mac" is going to look like it's either an LG or Dell since the most visible part of that system will have one of those brands on the front. Of course, I realize that not everyone needs ultra-wides but that's where I am myself.

Pffft. I used a 12” CRT standard television set with my Apple II+ and a cassette tape player to load software... until the Disk II came out. So there. ?
I remember connecting my Vic20 to a TV and also using Cassete Tapes (or Cartridge like NES system style & size) to load software/games or learning software. It also came with a HUGE manual it was like going to a separate school to learn how to use a computer.

- I recall playing games with my dad sitting on the floor carpet. Good times.

In 10yrs the differences we experienced with computing will similarly resemble our grandparents/great-grandparents life experiences from horse & buggy > cars > roads & street lights (kerosene to electric) > sky scrapers. lol.

If it's a curved 43-inch or something, I'm in...
(but I secretly know Apple is not into curved monitors, at all)
