Haha. This is funny. The Touch was released 6 months ago. You say that's too soon to upgrade the amount of memory. Well, guess what buddy. About a year ago you couldn't get 1 GB flash drives for under $20, now you can get them for under $10.

Are you referring to me or someone else? And, the iPod touch was released 5 months ago from yesterday. September 5, 2007.

And about the flash drives, true, but just look at the state of the economy right now.:apple:

the economy

doesn't have much to do with the price of flash. I got a 2 gb flash drive for under $20 back in august (well before the economy was slumping...it's also the tiniest drive ever made..half the thickness and half the width of a regular usb stick... ofcourse its made by sony). they raised the prices before xmas, but they've dropped again. you just need to know when to shop.

Well, to be really pedantic, Apple's official shipping date was September 28th I believe, and many people didn't get theirs until October.

Really it's 4 months.

Now, who can being it down to 3?

:D

Ok, I want my Touch with 128bit CPU, 1TB of flash memory, virtual keyboard, built in projector display, etc. And I want it now!

I just don't understand why Apple is releasing the Touch in stages. What a rip-off.

;) :p :D

With a 64GB SSD costing $1,000 as a BTO on the MBA, I doubt we will see it until '09. The general public isn't going to pay $600+ for an iPod.
SSD devices include some sort of interface such as S-ATA or P-ATA and look pretty much like a regular HD, so they cost more to produce. These devices can be used in place of a regular HD.

The flash memory used in the Touch and iPhone is mounted directly to the logic board of those devices.

Don't buy the 32GB Touch yet as a 64GB will be out this summer and a 128GB will be out for Christmas.

So what you're saying is never buy?

If Apple followed your philosophy we'd still be stuck on First Gen 5GB iPods.

It's technology, get over it.

We need an MR Classic. I'm tired of thread's and members like these.

You forgot about the alleged incoming tax rebate.. "Honey, the new iPod in the extra large family size is only six hundred bucks!!!"

Well... we don't want the economy to recover so fast it gets a whiplash, do we... Apple should maybe stop at 32 for awhile.

Smalldog has some 8Gb Rev A knocked down 30 bucks so it more than covers the cost of the $20 upgrade. And free UPS ship on it. Now that really would be a cool Valentine's day prezzie.

Not that I'd turn down a 32Gb one if someone wanted to gift THAT to me. The 32Gb would be great for having a whole bunch of movies on it.

I just bought another iPod touch Incase case in pink from Apple, just in case I will need it around Valentine's day.

I do partially agree with the OP - Apple do this too often (and yes, 4 months is a little short) - people buy too much stuff: this is seriously environmentally catastrophic - so yes, it's slightly mad. And yes, I bought my 16GB Touch in Dec and seriously wish I had 32GB now. If they did this with Macs there would be serious complaints as the value of people's hardware plummets in months.

Try telling that to the people who just spent ages waiting for the Mac Pro update or the list of people who are waiting for the new MBP.

Its true. If your positive that Apple will release a BETTER version of an iPod, then wait! Its not worth buying whatever it is now and complaining later 'cause you don't have that ONE. Theres ALWAYS gonna be something better. Its life, get used to it.

I've learned this lesson numerous times. I bought an iPod Nano, the skinny kind. That don't play video. Then, I wanted the new ones. Instead I got the Touch. But still, you should just buy what you want, and stick with it.

I got an 8gb.....LOVE IT:D

Environmentally catastrophic? Honey, that's tornados in Tennessee and hurricanes in Louisiana.

I don't know where you live, but around here there's always an annual free e-waste and hazmat recycling day. What can't find a home somewhere (old printers and monitors etc) gets busted down into proper components for responsible recycling or waste housing and you can watch it happen if you're the dog-in-manger type who thinks he doesn't want his 38-pound dot matrix printer from 1983 any more but doesn't want anyone else to get it in possibly usable condition "for free" (? I have never understood that mentality but then it's a wide world we live in).

Anyway if we can do that once a year in this economically depressed area, I'm sure there are lots of places holding similar "e-waste parties" at least once a year.

SANE ALERT!!! SANE ALERT!! GOOD IDEA IN THE THREAD!!!!!

But, seriously, OP, were you drunk or something when you posted this?

Lol

I think that it was stupid of Apple to release a new iPod touch right after X-Mass and really, who feels like spending $500 on 32GB?!?!?! Thats insane! I got my 16GB and am happy, can't exactly fit EVERYTHING but, I'm willing to sacrifice...coming from an 80GB video...

$500 what a joke! Apple pricing is nuts!

I would say the same thing but i haven't found the equivalent of a 32GB flash based music player with PDA capabilities. I get close but nothing as sleek and smooth.

I was looking at the iTouch for my second player and HTC Touch companion but now that there is a 32GB version I am deciding to wait until the price comes down.... sometime by year's end.... Lord willing. ;)
