Interesting perspective. I think Apple is all about owner image and ease of use.
Really good tech companies take cutting edge, and make it work.
Apple certainly isn't cutting edge these days, although its reputation for high quality and ease of use is as good as ever. Apple has, however, been cutting edge at times. When I bought a 17 inch Powerbook G3 in 2003, it was the only 17 inch laptop on the market and was far thinner than any other manufacturer's laptops, regardless of size. Even now, the ability of Intel Macs to run both OS X and Windows apps right out of the box is unique in the industry. In fact, this capability is the only thing that's keeping me in the Apple camp these days.apple has never been near cutting edge. their whole point is to sell older hardware at higher prices in order to make big profits. stuff like long lasting battery, unibody case and firewire aren't that important, because many of today's high-end laptops have much better designs than they did a year ago, they have replaceable batteries which can be swapped out when running low on power, and once usb3 becomes more common, firewire won't be as important (not that it's important now).
