it's the way of the tech world these days..top tier products don't come cheap just like alot of things these days are costly.

Third party vendors are your friend. I can't think of a single industry, be it the auto industry, food, televisions, etc., where you don't pay more if you stick to 'the brand' for everything.

They aren't really ripping anyone off unless someone actually buys the device and feels they overpaid for it. It's kind of subjective. IMO the 9.7" pro is overpriced for what you get seeing as many of the upgrades are fairly trivial or downright useless if you don't care about them, like camera upgrades and pencil support. Just not enough there.

And, it still vibrates pretty badly from what I've read and that's what kept away from the air 2 so that seals that deal. Stick it out with my lowly but yet completely functional air 1. :)

I'm not fussed about backlighting, the screen provides ample light.

I've yet to encounter a time when the iPad keyboard folding has caused me a problem.
Two answers to make yourself feel better about the keyboard. When Apple finally comes out with a keyboard with lightning, it'll be the next "great" thing and cost $199.

Also, that origami causes a lot of extra bulk/weight to an already huge device. Like I said, I love my Pro, but let's stop defending Apple and call a spade a spade...

With the 12.9 Pro, the ASK can be unwieldy when fully unfolded when attempting to fold it into it's "presentation" mode.
Exactly.

Hi guys

I considered getting the new Ipad Pro, but the more I look into it I can't get myself to buy it, because I realised that Apple is milking the cash cow even more than they used to.

For the following, please if you disagree, let me know and I will reconsider my point(s).

- Ipad Pro's price point does not justify the extra features it has.
- Ipad smart keyboard is $149
- Apple doesn't offer the leather ipad cover's anymore for Ipad Pro. Instead you have to buy a silicone cover which is $69 and the smart cover which is $49 = $118 for a case option
- Apple Pencil is another $99.

I was looking to get an Ipad with 128 gb (since there's no 64Gb) option. Even if I just went with the smart keyboard (no pencil and no case) it would be $1077.

In Denmark (where I live) it's $1391 because of taxes.

I just think it's unreasonable.

What do you guys think?

Do you need an iPad Pro? Or do you want an iPad Pro?

Oh I also highlighted taxes. Maybe you should bring this up with your government, not Apple.

They're not to make myself feel better in any way, I'm very pleased with my purchase, I don't have to justify it to myself.

I've had many backlit keyboards, including ones for my iPads. They really don't fuss me at all. When I had them it was because getting what I wanted without backlighting wasn't an option. I've never had difficulty seeing my keyboard, on the odd occasion I have to look at it, from the light produced from the screen.

And seriously, a lot of extra bulk and weight? Have you owned one at all? It's the thinnest and lightest option for an iPad Pro keyboard. I barely notice the difference from a normal screen cover.

But you tell yourself whatever you have to to make yourself feel better about your Microsoft affliction.

I studied business for 5 years, I know what BS looks like. I also know how they are making money. I also know they have crazy margins...here I am just saying they are being greedy.
Okay, then maybe it is also a good idea to see the margins of Coca cola, Starbucks, Nike, Microsoft software, and pretty much all pharma companies etc. If you know business, then you know that there is no such definition of "greedy" when you are talking about margins.

iPad Air 1 with 128gb wifi had far less capability than the new Pro and it retailed for $799 (compared to the iPad Pro 9.7 128 wifi at $749). Air 1 sold tons of units. The Pro seems like a deal to me.

The OP has valid points, but Apple is a business, and you have the choice to purchase from then or not. However, many of the responses here sound just a little ridiculous. "I find the pricing great"? I've never ever heard even an Apple fan boy say something like this. Acceptable, maybe, great, nah. Also, can we not even acknowledge the fact that Apple took away the choice to have a full leather smart case combo that was $79, and now to get something similar from Apple, it is 2 separate pieces that actually totals $118, and it's not even leather anymore? How is that a good thing? If they were going to separate the pieces, why not make them cost the same $79 when purchased together? Why make lesser quality cost that much more?

As for me, I ordered the smart case and Smart Cover anyway, because Apple seems to consistently put out the products that I prefer, and I've always preferred the original smartcase. However, I will admit the obvious, that it is ridiculously priced now, especially without even using leather anymore.

I agree that the price of the case is ridiculous. However, the silicone actually feels like it will hold up better than the leather smart case I had for my Air and it feels sturdier and smoother. I still don't understand why they didn't just give us options but the one option they did leave us with feel magnificent in hand (although again, crazy price).

Dude - I only have Apple products. It took two people at the Apple Store about 5 minutes to figure out the other position the Smart Keyboard can hold. But sure, this is the thinnest lightest option.

PS - Thats a 75inch TV next to it.

Given the extreme high demand for these products I'd say at the very least the prices are right. In reality, Apple could probably charge even more money and they'd still be struggling to get these products into the hands of everyone who wants them.

There are other after-market cases and covers BUT I very much doubt you'll find a case to match the incredible precision fit of the Silicone case on the 9.7" iPad Pro - it is tight.

I agree. You want greedy? Look at the markup on other common household items. They are MANY times what Apple marks up their products from cost.

The Air 2 cost $275 to build in 16gb config (Google it easy to confirm). Figure with the newer tech screen and 32gb, the 9.7 32gb cost $300 roughly. They are charging $599. That $300 doesn't include marketing costs, R&D; even up to store employee salaries and store operating costs to sell those products (although split among the whole product line). That is all split between each product sold; it doesnt come from the ether.

So lets say they are marking up $350 to $599.

Let's take the most basic of items. That large Coke at Mc Donalds for $1.50. Yeh costs the 5-20 cents. So that soda is marked up MANY MANY times more than apple products from their costs.

Starbucks coffee? Yeh many many times marked up from cost. Bottled water- 4000% markup. The average brand suit you wear to work- many hundreds or thousands of percent markup

If you want to talk ripoff, people should at least know what they're talking about. Apple doesn't even double what their cost is.

In fact most of the other items you come into contact daily are marked up more from cost than Apple products. This is just a stereotype of Apple that makes no sense.

I have C6 cases on both my sons ipad mini2's and like them better than the case Apple had on offer. Very snug, high-end look and feel and does all the things the Apple case does better (easier folding for stand-up) for less money. Don't know if they're in the market with cases for the pro yet.

Well let's look at what you're getting over the iPad Air 2.

-Double the storage of the previous base model
-A smart connector that you'll be able to use with the inevitable cheap third party keyboards
-Four speaker audio system
-True Tone display
-Better camera

While all these probably don't cost an extra $100 to put into an iPad, keep in mind Apple has to make money.

This was a huge upgrade fro me as I had the original iPad Air. I love the keyboard. But also the faster processor and 4 speakers. Multitasking is great. If you already had the iPad Air 2 it would be a rip off. But if you had less than that this is a huge upgrade. Plus 256 GB of storage did it for me

I found the pricing great so I purchased 2 iPad Pros with Apple case and Smart Cover. Not all of us are poor so why not leave this forum and go and buy something cheap.

Why do some keep going on about Apples pricing as it's never been so cheap.

damn and they say us americans are *******s lol

I also have been an original air owner since day one. It has been a tough device to get rid of, I didn't even seen the need to upgrade to air 2. With all the great reviews I think it's time to retire the original air and get on the pro bandwagon.

I'm well aware of the size of it, I have one. I'm curious though, you use it in that configuration how often? (Skipping over the fact that that image denotes neither how thin or how much it weighs. Compare it to the other iPad Pro keyboards available. I'd like you to point me towards the thinner and lighter option, because I'll buy it.)

Mine is either closed on the screen, no issue there. Flat against the back, no issue there. Set as a keyboard which takes no more room than competing options, so no problem there. Or setup as a stand, teeny tiny footprint, no issue there. Or not attached at all.

Your, or the store assistants inability to put the keyboard flat against the back of the iPad and then just pop it on top of a desk isn't really a fault of the ASK so much as the user's ability to comprehend simple things. It took me all of three seconds to figure it out, it's hardly rocket science.

The real trouble is, some people are just whiny no matter what. No-one forces anyone to purchase something so here's a thought, just buy things you like and avoid the ones you don't, then you might be happy.
